The Cat’s Meow Feline Veterinary Clinic

I have *never* felt so utterly disrespected or bullied by a business.
I recently took my cat in because he had thrown up a few times in the night; no big deal, just want to check and make sure he doesn’t have a blockage, etc. As I’m filling in paperwork, a vet I had never met before (Dr. Foster) comes to ask questions. Immediately she sees on his chart that he is raw fed and badgers me about how they do not support homemade raw diets (even though Dr. Day said it was fine). What they *do* support is Science Diet which, if you look at any dietary analysis or understand how to read pet food labels, is full of low-​quality and unnecessary ingredients and furthermore, is a kibble, which does not provide cats with dietary moisture and as a result is largely connected with kidney issues. But whatever, many clinics make money by pushing «prescription diets,» so it’s not that out of the ordinary, this is just a heads up for people who feed raw diets to not even bother trying this clinic.
The bigger issue I had was how later correspondence went. I was called a couple hours after dropping him off being told he would need to be sedated in order to be handled; while I find that *very* hard to believe, since this is a cat who adores everything and everyone, has never broken skin while playing with us, goes for walks on a leash like a dog and lets me give him regular baths, I okayed it with some hesitation. BUT THEN, she offers to neuter my cat. When I say that I am not planning on getting him neutered until he is at least a year old for his own health while he is growing, she lashes out; insisting that he needs it to correct his behavioral issues, even though I explained that he is perfect at home. She then angrily tells me that that means he’ll always have to be sedated when he comes back (as if I would ever take him back to someone who can’t have a calm conversation with me about my informed decisions.) I’m glad that I studied animal behavior rather than internal medicine, because I think that kind of fear-​mongering tactic could easily work on someone who wasn’t so well-​informed.
The rest of the correspondence was far more cool-​headed, but I cannot recommend anyone go to a place that uses scare-​tactics to attempt to persuade owners into unnecessary diets and procedures.

I have to tell you all that this place is hands down the only reason that my cat is still alive. Mr. Dukie has had 2 episodes of urinary tract crystals which block his urethra and keep him from being able to urinate. Pretty much the saddest thing to watch your cat in the litterbox for 20 minutes straining to get 2 drops of urine out. Dr. Day at the Cat’s Meow is one of the kindest, most knowledgeable and helpful veterinarians I’ve ever met. In fact, she is simply the best! Her and Dr. Forster are both responsible for saving my cat’s life, twice. And Rachel, the vet tech, spent so much time with my kitty, I think she has a permanent kitty crush on him (can’t blame her!)! Lastly, my cat is a bit on the heavy side, and the cages they keep them in are actually not really cages, they are like full-​on cat apartments! So, if you are wondering where to take your beloved kitty, look no further. The Cat’s Meow is your spot! They will treat you and your cat like family.

I have two cats and they are a huge part of the family so I am very protective and want the best for them. I take them both to The Cat’s Meow. The staff is incredibly friendly and they treat my two kitties very well. I will continue to give them my business because they deserve it. They go above and beyond every time to make sure my cats are as comfortable as possible. I have been in a total of four times over the last 6 months for vaccines, check ups, and getting them fixed and the bill has always been less than I expect it to be. The pricing is very reasonable and they offer a lot of services. Can’t say enough good things about the staff.

The staff here is very friendly and helpful. Money is tight in my house and they did everything possible to keep the prices down for me to afford and they saved my cat! Hands down the best vet I have ever been to!

The Cat’s Meow is simply the best. I first visited them when I adopted a kitty and lived in the Perry district. I live in the valley now but I still make the drive. As another reviewer said, the staff truly cares about you and your cat. They’re extremely helpful and kind. Not to mention, they’re incredibly affordable. I used to go to the VCA for their extended hours of operation. Their prices were ridiculous and going there always felt sterile and cold. You never got the hands on, one-​on-​one, personal experience that you’ll get at the Cat’s Meow.
They have an in-​house kitty who has 3 legs. They told me he was found on the street after a bad attack by another animal, and they took him in and nursed him back to health, which involved his amputation. He’s been there ever since. That speaks volumes to the kind of people who work here: true cat people.

Wonderful, caring people! Dr. Forster is amazing with our cats. She is gentle and truly cares about the animals. She fully explains what’s happening with our pets and provides generous details on their condition. Both of my cats have asthma and have seen many different vets who wanted us to spend hundreds on procedure after procedure (bloodwork, urinanalysis, x-​rays, homeopathic remedies, etc.). Dr. Forster recommended only necessary procedures (x-​rays) and got my kitties on the medications they needed to feel better. I trust the Cat’s Meow to take care of my kitties and my wallet!
