Well THAT ended badly! Bad food, bad service bad, bad, bad. A perfect example of how an owner gets so full of himself and his vision that he forgets about his customers.

The restaurant is closed. Their breakfast menu was very similar to Flower City Grill on 2500 East Ave.

Our dinner choices last night struggled to be just OK. The burritos were decent but the rice and beans lacked flavor. The description of the burrito included cilantro, one of my favorite herbs, but I could not taste or see any. They were simply there occupying space on the plate. The salsa served with the chips lacked cilantro and was watery with very little texture. Perhaps they should buy fresh salsa from Wegmans. On a positive note, the chips were good. Our drink choices consisted of a frozen margarita and red sangria. The margarita, which ordinarily packs a punch for my wife, lacked flavor and if there was any tequila in it perhaps they just waved the bottle over the glass. Curiously, we both could detect a slight coconut flavor to it. As far as the sangria is concerned, it tasted like watered down red wine and virtually no fruit flavor. Their happy hour price for the drinks was $ 6 representing a $ 2 saving. These drinks are not worth the $ 6 let alone $ 8. Stick with beer. The facility was nice and well appointed with a Mexican flair. Our server, Eric, was very pleasant and attentive.

We’ve been here twice now in the past few months because of Get My Perks deals, but very glad I only purchased two. Twice we’ve ordered chicken quesadillas for the kids and twice they’ve mysteriously arrived with no chicken(cost-saving measure?). I usually benchmark all Mexican places by their fajitas, so the last time I had the shrimp fajitas, and there was a very skimpy portion on the plate(4 – 5 shrimp), and only 2 small tortillas for $ 14!!! This time I had the beef burrito, hoping it would be a better choice, but was again disappointed. You can have a better burrito at Moe’s for $ 4 less — the meat was bland, the cheese tasted like Velveeta, and it really had no flavor, except a slight burn to the tortilla. The rice did not taste fresh and the beans were thick and pasty. The food is mediocre and the prices are exorbitant for what you are getting — there is better Mexican in Rochester. For food quality alone, head across the street to Rancho Viejo…

My boyfriend and I stopped here two nights ago — you know, before we got dumped on by mother nature again. He heard from a friend that it was really good, and his friend was not wrong. I actually visited this place when it was the other Mexican place(it was super unimpressive — I couldn’t even remember the name of it so I could review it), and I was a little hesitant to try this place, but I’m glad I did. We got there around 5:15 on a Tuesday evening and were the only guests there. The waiter, Eric, was very kind(although he did seem a little nervous/awkward). We got two of their margaritas, made with fresh lime juice, to start. They were good, although I wish there had been a little bit more tequila. My boyfriend got the chimichanga and I got the shrimp tacos. While we waited, we munched on chips and salsa — good, but nothing to write home about. The food didn’t take very long to come out and the portions were generous. Everything was wonderful; my boyfriend loved his chimichanga(it was enormous), and my shrimp tacos were perfectly seasoned and not at all over cooked. I really enjoyed the grilled flour tortillas. The rice and bean sides were also very good. We ate almost everything — my boyfriend said he still felt full from his mega-chimichanga last night. The décor is warm and festive — although it hasn’t really changed since the previous owners left it. There is a ton of seating and parking is super easy. There are happy hour specials, too — I believe it is Monday through Thursday from 4−6PM. Additionally our waiter mentioned that there would be live bands playing every Saturday for the rest of March, so if you’re looking for yummy food and enjoy live music, this would be a great place to try!

We just recently moved to the area and needed to check out the local Mexican places, so this was our first try. Not too bad at all! :) My husband and I went there today for a mini date, and it was a very enjoyable experience. Upon entering we were greeted by the owner who warmly welcomed us and seated us. The restaurant is very bright and cheerful. I loved the colors. It was also very clean. We were presented with menus and encouraged to try out their amazing margaritas which are hand made with hand squeezed lime juice and other ingredients. My husband tried one, and I had a sip. It was quite delicious. The lunch menu was a little small, but not bad. I chose chimichangas, and my husband chose enchiladas. While we waited on our food, we had the chips and salsa. Both were great. I couldn’t tell if the salsa was fresh or processed, but it was good. The chimichangas weren’t quite what I’m used to, but they weren’t bad. They could’ve had a little more flavor, but I enjoyed them. They were served with beans and rice. I don’t eat beans, but they looked like pretty typical pinto beans. The rice was standard Mexican rice. We were offered dessert but politely refused as we were completely stuffed. The owner was chatty and friendly, and we had a great time. We will definitely come back.

Once again, the server was awesome. The food was slow coming out of the kitchen and the owner lingered imposingly at our table to check on the status of our meal. The owner corrects the staff from across the room like a child. I’m not sure why he feels the need to do this since the waiter is excellent. He remembered the last time we were in, what we ordered and made recommendations off that. The food seems a bit pricey for the quality. I’m surprised at the price when the bill comes. It seems we have had much better meals for less elsewhere. It’s really too bad, because this used to be a fabulous Mexican joint… probably mostly when it was named the other place and before the new owner. I’m searching for the same quality that the original place had, with the same friendly staff. But, it’s not here… maybe that newer Mexican place on the corner just down the street is decent.

Best thing: Roasted Red Pepper Soup. Worst thing: Didn’t offer to refill soda until I was finished with dinner. Entrée: Poblano pepper stuffed with chicken, rice and cheese. Just OK, which goes for the salsa, too.

My girlfriend and I stumbled upon this place once we realized the old restaurant had closed. We began frequenting the place for their dinner menu(goat cheese quesadillas and fish tacos being among our favorites). Once we learned of their brunch menu, we’ve been hooked ever since. Being fans of a spin on traditional dishes, we were highly impressed with Wylie Chayote’s breakfast flair. Their huevos divorcianados and pierogies with eggs are unmatched by anything similar we’ve tried. The hand squeezed orange juice is a must as well. They also have the best hash and double smoked bacon in the county. We hope that Wylie Chayote’s finds success in Spencerport so that we can continue our new Mexican brunch tradition. We constantly tell people about the food and how great it is. Everyone should try Wylie Chayote’s at least once for yourself. You’ve never lived unless you’ve eaten here.

We took advantage of a Groupon for dinner for two on a recent weeknight. The Margaritas were fresh and delicious. We began the meal with appetizers; the jalapeño poppers and the mussels. Both were outstanding, but let me warn you about the mussels. They arrived in a big bowl and the portion was huge. They would have sufficed as an entre. My husband had the Chimichanga and really enjoyed every component, especially the green sauce, which he said was unlike anything he’d ever tasted. I had the pork adobo which was served with flour tortillas, rice and beans, and a jicama slaw that added a bit of crunchy texture to the meal. The service was prompt and the waiter/bartender was well versed on the menu. Compared to other local Mexican restaurants, Wylie Chayote is a bit pricey, with entres in the $ 12.00 to $ 18.00 range, but it’s a great date night or special occasion place.

When we arrived, it was very quiet… The dinner service had just started. We were seated quickly, and drink orders were taken. The waiter told us the specials before he left to get drinks, and the owner yelled across the room because he thought the waiter messed up on describing one of the specials(he didn’t). The food was delicious. They accommodate to people with dairy allergies very nicely. It was a nice touch to add the televisions, but all of the TV’s had a different show playing, and on top of that there was music playing. Very confusing to try and watch a television show when you can’t hear it. The waiter was very nice and willing to help with anything that we needed. I would definitely recommend Wylie Chayote’s to anyone, if you don’t mind the owner.

Great food and atmosphere, but service is a little slow. Well worth the waiting though.

Table for two in the bar area, plenty of room, great environment. Fusion mexican-american — we enjoyed excellent beef and fish dishes with Mexican flair. We will be back.

It’s nice to have some decent ‘Mexican’ west of the city, and Wylie Chayote’s has a lot to offer. The house margarita is amazing — no need to get fancypants tequila in it. The inside décor is very well done — nice, bright colors and furniture that could be in a fine dining establishment in the city. there’s even a seating area in the bar with comfy leather couches. The food itself is decent, but not incredible. The regular enchilada sauces are a bit bland(like the salsa) — probably tamed down for an upstate palate. It’s nice that they have a veggie(mostly zucchini) option. The rice and beans are fine, but nothing to get excited about. However, the mole sauce(chicken mole, but I think you could order it on enchiladas) is quite good. Beware GF diners — if you’re sensitive, the chips are fried in contaminated oil. The safest thing on the menu is the enchiladas — most other things have wheat in them. Not as good of a place to go for brunch, particularly for the gluten free. They don’t serve huevos rancheros(???) and instead focus on more american-style breakfast.

I went here for breakfast with my boyfriend, and we had an awesome breakfast. We raved about it for months and finally went back for dinner with his parents. I got the carne asada tacos, my boyfriend and his father got the chimichangas and his mom got the quesadilla. Everything was beyond great! I am used to the same old Mexican places we have around town, but this is nothing like it. I have also been to La Casa, which is supposed to be the best authentic mexican restaurant around and Wylie Chayote’s blows it out of the water. The queso was by far the best queso I have had in a while. I hate when you order Queso and this tick film forms on top form the cheese crusting over… it’s gross, but this did not do that at all. It had great seasoning and it was thick and creamy. very delicious! My tacos were great… I do, however, like tacos that have some toppings on them(i’m sure that is not authentic mexican, but I like it). The carne asada came with caramelized onions and some herbs… it was great, but I wish there was a bit more to them. After seeing the chimichanga across the table from me, realllllly made me wish I would have gotten that. My boyfriend and his father said it was great. I will be getting that next time. It was huge and it just looked like it was perfectly cooked. We also ordered the margaritas. I know I have been saying, «best ever,» a lot in this review, but seriously, hands down, best ever margaritas I have had. They come with fresh squeeze lime juice, agave nectar and really great tequila. We had TWOPITCHERS, yes that is right, two pitchers between the 4 of us! We were feeling pretty good after two glasses, but we said«Keep Em Coming!» I am going to warn you, a pitcher of margaritas is $ 45, but there is about 5 or 6 good size glasses in the one pitcher and the tequila they use is really good! It was well worth every penny!

Great breakfast — the quesadillas were awesome and the pork verde is not to be missed. Tammy did a great job serving. Worth the 15 minute drive from Rochester! Chef Jerry Manley is on top of his game.

Ok, now I understand the 5 — star review. He had breakfast!!! There’s a card on every table in the restaurant that tells you what a great restaurant ‘Jerry’ had that served breakfast. I came here for Mexican dinner. First impression: The restaurant atmosphere was very nice. Separate bar area looked very nice. Tables have vinyl table cloths — yuk. The salsa was chopped up tomatoes and onions in water. Dipping the chips in it resulted in nothing but a ‘wet’ chip. And it had zero flavor. Very bland. I asked the waiter to look at the salsa that came with the chips. He made a joke and offered to replace it but he walked away. After asking twice more, he took it away, and brought a new bowl. Exactly the same. Nothing but water with ‘more’ tomatoes and onions. I had the chicken tacos, wife had the beef tacos. The rice was completely bland. No flavor at all. No chunks of anything… onions, peppers, tomatoes… just yellow-colored, bland, rice. Every fork full of rice left a nice liquid spot of grease on the plate. The chicken had an ‘orange/yellow colored’ sauce — I’ve had tons of Mexican food but I’ve never tasted anything with that spice in it. I did not like it. My wife’s beef tacos were better — although they were dripping with water or grease too, just like the rice. For drinks, I had a raspberry margarita that was the exact same color as ‘Pepto bismal. It tasted ok, but the color was very strange. Sorry, but this was not a good experience. Will not be back which is too bad. We visit Spencerport regularly.

Chef Jerry Manley(former owner of the Flour City Diner) applies his quality approach and skilled palate to Mexican ingredients. I enjoyed the house cocktail, featuring Juarez Silver Tequila, with cane sugar simple syrup, a little orange juice, Triple Sec with real vanilla bean, and a slice of jalapeño! A delicious and beautifully balanced cocktail. We tried the chorizo mac and cheese as a starter. Absolutely tasty, with a nice crunch from the green peppers, a creamy sauce, and pasta cooked just right. The spicy shrimp on sweet potato grits was very nicely done. Perfectly grilled shellfish, with great flavor and texture on the grits. At dessert, the tres leches we shared was plowed into by the family before I could make a picture. Once I tasted it, I understood their haste! Beautifully executed, cool and light, with a rich mouth feel — and not too sweet! Jerry said they’re doing a Grand Opening on Saturday June 15, 2013. During dinner he’s booked a fantastic mariachi band, three 70-year-old guys who can really play. He’s also serving breakfast 8 a.m. — 2 p.m. featuring the favorites from Flour City Diner. I like Chef Manley’s food, and the drive out to Spencerport took less than 20 minutes. I’m holding back one star for now only because this was a single visit. I look forward to returning soon!

Had their fish tacos which were great. Found out they did Brunch Sat and Sun 8 – 2:00 and tried that out too. They have the usual menu items. We tried the blueberry french toast and it was great. Omelets that came out look great. We came for something mexican, and they do have a section. While didn’t see juevos rancheros, the breakfast quesedilla made us forget about it. Loaded with eggs, peppers, onions, bacon, and a few jalepenos for kick served with sour cream and pico. Just what we were looking for. No website so far, attempted menu shots.

Finally, great dining has returned to the west side! Jerry Manley, Executive Chef and former owner of Flour City Diner, is bringing some seriously gown-up Mexican flavors to this newly opened restaurant. I ordered a margarita made with freshly squeezed lime and citrus juices. It was a classic balance of sweet and sour. The fresh ingredients make the difference over the typical powdered mixes many places serve. As starters we tried the Roasted Red Pepper and Goat Cheese salad and the Roasted Tomato Chipolte Soup. The salad was lovely and almost a meal in itself, with a spicy orange vinaigrette. Neither my husband nor I are big fans of tomato based soup, but this was a beautiful smokey flavored bowl with a heat that sneaks up on you. For entrees we both had specialty tacos. My Baja fish taco featured perfectly cooked cod and a zing of chipolte mayo. My husband’s guajillo dusted shrimp taco was incredibly flavorful, highly recommended. And when we mentioned a fondness for pork adobo, the chef brought us out a tasting serving of his Pork Chile Verde that was AMAZING. We kicked ourselves for not noticing it on the menu. We were too full to even think of trying one the desserts made by co-owner Donna. But there is no doubt we will be back soon to try it again. Fresh ingredients, amazing flavors and good service.
