Ok first thing first: hands down one of the most freshest&original sushi I have ever had ! I had the Christmas roll and it was so good ! Just thinking about it makes me hungry ! If you are looking for healthy options they have that as well: no rice with your sushi. Def a gem in Sparta & they are super friendly ! Overall, great experience and great food

Honestly the best Sushi around. Always fresh. Compares to NY sushi restaurants. You’ll find unique rolls and appetizers. Small dining room but take out is always a great option.

Sushi is good but as sushi goes, over priced. Service ranges from good/friendly to indifferent. This is a byob. A good fast in-out option for sushi. Check the specials out they always have something interesting and creative.

This is by far the best Sushi in the area. I live in Manhattan and eat at the best Sushi restaurants outside of Japan regularly. And, I’ve spent a lot of time in Japan eating sushi. This place is great and certainly the best in Sussex County. BYOB doesn’t hurt either.

Not exactly the best place in town. The quality is pretty mediocre. Service is fast but not friendly. Quality at Asian Island is way better.

Rainbow tartar, etc… Lord! This place hands down is great. Better then going to Mizuki in Roxbury on rt10. Will absolutely come more often to SushiYa. A+++

Best sushi in the area. Kids loved the tempura chicken and the fried ice cream. Sushi is always fresh. We eat here a few times per month. Definitely recommend it!

Always wonderfully fresh… I have never had a bad dish here, and I’m not even a big fish eater. I highly recommend the spicy lobster! My 10 year old loves the tuna dumplings, tiger roll(special) and new favorite: tuna hand rolls — it’s our go to Sushi and whenever friends are in town who like sushi — Sushi Ya is their special request. Save room for the mochi ice cream!

I have been here few times, and was never disappointed. I ordered the pepper black cod, and it was delicious.

Sushi Ya used to be my family’s favorite restaurant in Sparta to get delivery from, but not anymore. We have experienced horrible costumer service from the manager of the restaurant. She would not allow my family to switch a California roll to a tuna roll with sushi dinner and demanded a two dollar charge for the switch. She also was extremely rude when my credit card would not swipe with her machine. I expressed to her that this has happened before and kindly asked her to punch the card number in. She did not acknowledge my request, but took my card and stated, «oh it swipes» in a somewhat stuck up voice. The manager should understand that she is in no way doing me a favor by me attending her restaurant, I am doing her the favor by giving her business. That favor will not be given anymore. I must also add the quality of the food has gone down with the service as well.

I have been very disappointed with Sushi Ya, as of late. My mom and I go there often due to convenience, but we are probably one of their«regulars.» Although I do love their sushi, the service has been completely horrendous recently. The first time I noticed this was a couple weeks ago when my mother and I went out for sushi. We waited forever to get our order(and we only ordered 3 sushi rolls total). I let them off the hook this time around since I had never had issues with their service before and they were apologetic about it. However, I just went to Sushi Ya once again last Friday, 10÷03÷14, and I was completely dissatisfied with the service. My friend and I waited an hour and a half for our 3 sushi rolls. Then, we started noticing that people who were seated after us received their sushi before us, so I said something to one of the waitresses. Instead of being nice about it, she was defensive and pretty much said that the orders were all jumbled up and that they are«doing their best.» Obviously they need a better system for taking orders. I was actually going to leave(after an hour and a half of waiting), but they ended up coming out with our sushi in the nick of time. Though the sushi at Sushi Ya is really pretty good, their poor service and attitude left a bad taste in my mouth.

Uhh… not for me! The special rolls had way too much«sauce» on them. The special rolls were pretty tasteless. The basic tuna hand roll didn’t taste like tuna. I’m not sure what was going on. It was pretty busy for lunch so I’m sure some people enjoy it but again, it’s just not for me.

This is a Great sushi place. People say it is the best in NJ which i doubt because 1. they havent tried every sushi place, and 2. it is simply not the best. HOWEVER it IS amazing sushi. Great lunch bento box, comes with a lot of food for around $ 9. I always take out my sushi, and the few times when i have eaten there, it seems to have a.funky. smell. Its fishy, which is to be expected i guess. As others have said, the service staff is completely over the top, and basically hovers over you and they ask you if you need anything about every 30 seconds. But working in a restaurant myself, you cant judge a place too hard on the service staff. Anyway i have been a loyal sushi ya goer for a long time but i have since moved to Tokyo sushi 1 – 2 miles away because their sushi seems to be a bit better quality.(more avocado in their avocado roll, more detail in their alaskan roll). But i absolutely cannot knock sushi ya. It is very good sushi and definitely deserves your business.

Best sushi in town. The rolls are great and fresh and they have great appetizers. I tried the fried calamari a few weeks ago and it was awesome! Something like this is usually very greasy but this was not. The dipping sauce it came with was perfect.

Food is okay; however, the service has been bad on multiple occasions. Several times I have been turned away from a table and told to come back later to return to another family sitting at my designated table. There is a communication barrier between the waiters and they have made little effort to make this a pleasant dining experience. When I have gotten a table, I feel rushed to eat quickly and cannot maximize my dining pleasure. I recommend 100% Tokyo Sushi only 5 minutes from Sushi Ya.

The yellow tail roll the last two times I went there looked sad. The fish was a pallid shade of white and the texture was crumbly. It had no taste. Yellow tail should be light pink, flavorful, and have the tuna texture one would expect. This was unreasonably bad. When I began going here it was not the case. Sad.

The owners welcome me here like a friend, as I keep coming back regularly. Then I notice they do the same for others, as the other patrons cannot stay away for too long, either. If you are anywhere in the area and want the best meal in town, Sushi Ya is the place! I always have a great meal here, and anyone I have brought with me is equally impressed by the quality of the food product. Ask for the chef recommendations of the day. Enjoy!

Decided to try this place due to recommendations and I was definitely worried due to the location in a strip mall. Previous reviews compare Sushi Ya to Asian Island, and I would say that they are quite similar. Both are excellent. Similar quality food, similar presentation similar service, and similar atmosphere. Asian island has a slightly better setup with their décor and ability to accommodate larger amounts of guests. However, Sushi Ya more than exceeded my expectations. Excellent service, delicious and plentiful menu choices. Specials offered as well. I was definitely pleased. If you like sushi, definitely give it a try. I would not say it is“overpriced”. My boyfriend ordered a soda and a few pieces of sushi, and I ordered the tuna dumpling appetizer. We both got a regular roll and a special roll each. Our total was approx $ 55. We left very full and satisfied. That isn’t expensive for sushi, it’s average. For those saying the service is over-attentive, I can see how that might be possible because I’m sure that when they are busy they are trying to keep service quick in order to accommodate more guests in a small dining area. Those upset about lunch specials not offered on weekends don’t seem to understand the point of specials. Lunch specials are meant to draw in more guests during a period when business is normally slower. Since they are already busy on weekends, they don’t need to offer specials those days. A lot of restaurants do it, and it’s not really unfair. Overall, I would say Sushi Ya compares with Asian Island and Tokyo Sushi. All three are excellent Sparta sushi locations. Hopefully soon we can get another decent Sussex County sushi place not in Sparta…

Small place, overly-attentive waiters(to the point of annoyance for me), reasonable prices. Stopped in for lunch, got the sashimi – nice presentation, fish was adequate. I wouldn’t call the fish particularly fresh or of the highest quality, but for small-town Sparta? It works. Not sure if I’d go back, considering I’m fairly particular about my sushi, but it was decent. The person I went with got the sweet potato roll, which was quite good, and the yellowtail roll, which was adequate.
