Drive Line & Gear Service of Reno-Sparks-Fallon

I worked with Ryan after Josh Brown at Reno Vulcanizing recommended them to help me with a pinion problem on my newly purchased 1979 Winnebago Brave. I knew the work was going to cost some money, but I was driving across country from Reno to Atlanta and the work had to be done. Ryan was VERY sensitive to this and did the best thing he could have done: he pulled out the parts needed and showed them to me, explaining how they work and how important it was that I get all of the work needed done at one time. I left with an RV that ran just fine, a great feeling about how I was treated and an education that I may never need again, but am so glad I had. Ryan didn’t have to explain a thing to me. He did it because he cares. All too rare these days.

I would be leery.
I went here for a drive train service. New fluids. I drive an 05 Yukon. Job was going to take an hour to hour fifteen minutes once started. I arrived at 1. Went to lunch and returned 1:40. Upon my return I was notified that the fluid in my transfer case was milky and contained shavings. Not good. Proposed fix to the problem was to split cases and repair would run $ 850 to $ 1,500. I declined and wait till the case started to show actual visible noise indicating a problem. So, they had started the work and I should be out of there in less than an hour. Not until 5 was my car done. That’s 2 hours over the indicated time for the job. Seemed to me they diagnosed a problem in less than 40 minutes but didn’t finish the job for 4 hours. I had to wonder if the presentation of the problem they described ever existed since if they would have been into the job that quickly I should have been out of there by 2:30 given there time estimate. I think they tried to turn a $ 325 fluid service into a $ 1700 dollar unneeded repair. For if they had drained that fluid from my case they should have continued to work on the job as I had four cases to be drained. Why nearly three hours over the time indicated. I think they wanted to be able to start and finish the $ 1500 job before 5 if I had okayed it but when I said no they put me in the rear of the line and I waited hours.
I will qualify this by saying I do not know this was the case. I can only do the math and wonder why if the job was started 30 minutes after I arrived, why did it take 4 hours to do an 1:15 service. Maybe it really didn’t get started for 3 house after I arrived. And the pitch for splitting the cases took only 30 minutes. Sorry but it makes no sense.
Transmission and drive lines are very difficult for consumers to understand. If you actually need recommended repairs as there al so internal and complex and forigien that consumers are ez prey for added cost or for diagnosed problems that never existed. These practices are common and I just wanted to relay my experience.

What a pleasure doing business with Tom! We took our RV in because of a rough drive with a harmonic noise in the rear tires. Tom said he would do his best, and he went above and beyond that! From 0800 until after closing they worked on our problem, one Tom had never seen before and especially on a rig having only 31k mileage! We know that the effort and work was hard to complete, but we were so thankful they not only addressed our problem that three other businesses would not take on, but complete the job in one day! Tom had us back on the road with our rig humming all the way! Next day I told management at Sparks Marina about this incredible business so they can pass on the info to fellow RVers. Thank you for keeping your word Tom and for doing such a fine job on our rig!

My 96 Dodge 4×4 Ram was a disaster. Drive Line replace the front and rear drive shaft. They fixed my truck and helped me out of a bad situation.

Gear work is expensive no matter how you look at it. The parts, tools, and knowledge required to work on them is expensive and hard to do. That’s why shops specialize in just these components. That being said, these guys are the most reasonable and most knowledgeable in town and have saved a weekend for me twice now. The first time was the night before I was leaving for the Rubicon, I realized the drive shaft on the jeep we were going to be driving was bent. I called them first thing in the morning and told them the situation. I brought the shaft in, they built a brand new one, (they can custom make any length or strength shaft you need) and had me out the door by noon. The shaft they built was twice as good as the stock one too. They could have easily bumped up the price due to the situation I was in but they’re honest and they didn’t. The second time was just recently, my best friend’s Dodge was making a terrible noise in the rear-​end. he was leaving the next morning for a family reunion and had to have his truck. They got him in, tore it apart and rebuilt it same day for less than the original price they quoted him. If you need gear or drive line work done, take it here, and thank me later.
