First trip to southport we went to pi, s last night and had a fantastic meal. The blackened fish and shrimp dish was cooked to perfection. I had expected a couple of shrimp to go with the fish but when it was served I found myself with 12 good sized shrimp and. A generous portion of fish. We will definitely be back.

Seafood, steaks and everything in between. A great choice for friendly meal for two or a group with bar service available. Low-country inspired with many options. Enjoyed some delicious raw oyster offerings and the prime rib. Tasty, but wish I had added some scallops to the mix — they looked great and appear to be a specialty. Overall, great service, great food, and awesome location in Southport.

What a delightful place. With its knotty pine interior one feels like they’ve been transported back in time. The whole place is immaculate, the staff very attentive & the food oh so good. We both had our sights set on seafood but my bride caved & went for the prime rib. Great decision, said she. I had seared dry sea scallops that were devine. Sides run from excellent standards to a few bordering innovative. No ocean view but eat later & pretend if a view is a prerequisite.

Always five star. I’ve been coming here for over 20 years and have never received a bad meal or indifferent service. Always a class act.

Quiet restaurant with white table clothes and real napkins. Waitress, Shelby, was just right level of attentive. Tried crab stuffed mushroom app, shrimp & grits and fried flounder. All of the food matched the menu descriptions, but none of it stuck out as fantastic on the pallette. The one exception was the dessert Shelby recommended, lemon blueberry cheesecake. The cheesecake had a silky texture and just the right amount of fresh berries inside all on a crust that had hints of crunch and cinnamon topped with real whipped cream, every bite was perfection! For Southport four stars. For Atlantans three stars.

We ordered the catch of the day and Shrimp Gumbo and everything was excellent. We highly recommend Mr. P’s. This is our favorite spot in Southport.

We were here out of town for work and the locals recomended Mr. P’s. My fiancé is very picky and does not eat seafood and there was not much to choose from that was not seafood, thus the four stars. He ended up ordering the fillet, it was almost 3 inches thick, cooked to perfection and he says it was the most tender steak he had ever had. I ordered the crab stuffed catch of the day which was flounder, it was very good. The fish was tender and flaky while the crab stuffing was flavorful with a nice crispy top. Service here was absolutely OUTSTANDING! We arived a little late, the resturaunt closed at 9 and we never felt rushed to finish after closing. Our waitress was very personable and gave recomendations for places to eat breakfast and things to do while we were here. Overall we were very satisfied with our experience here with the only downfalls being limited choices for non seafood eaters and fairly small drinking glasses.

I love fried oysters so when they are in season I always go to Mr. p’s. They never let me down. The staff is always welcoming and friendly. The wait staff has always been well informed and offer specials that are often unusual. We took our 3 yr. old grandsons and they enjoyed pasta and grill cheese. The chef even made a special marinara for one with pasta. Oysters on half shell is our daughter in laws favorite and she said they were the best. Our son ordered jambalaya and was great! We go every time we are in Oak Island area since we have a house there. One of our favorites!

The service was totally over the top EXCELLENT! Environment is very cozy! If you don’t see something on the menu that you like, don’t let that stop you from trying this place. They are sure to have multiple specials offered that are NOT listed on the menu. We had underground tuna(5 stars)! Shrimp and Grits(5 stars), oysters on half shell(5 stars) and prime rib(4 stars)! We will be back for sure! Ask for Addison!

We have eaten here multiple times and have had a good experience every time. The prime rib is very good and so is the shrimp gumbo. Get the fried green tomatoes as a side dish with your dinner, they are awesome. The fried shrimp are also very good. If they have the underground tuna as a dinner or appetizer, order it. it Is a bit pricey, but delicious. The crab wontons are very good. The crab dip has more cream cheese than crab, but still tasted good. The crab stuffed mushrooms were good as well. Nice place to go for dinner and a cocktail. Get the Southport Sidecar. Give them a try!

A stop at Mr P’s is a staple of our yearly trips to the beach. My wife and I have been coming to «P’s», as we like to call it, for 10 years and have never had a bad meal or experience. Our most recent trip we called the day before to get a reservation. They sat us in a cozy corner alone which was very nice. Our server was both friendly and attentive. We had the seared sesame seed encrusted ahi tuna appetizer which is always a special there. I wish they would just add it to their menu already, its always delicious. My wife had filet medallions covered in scallops and shrimp and crab meat. I had crab stuffed dish du jour which happened to be flounder. Yum. Their house cab is also tasty. After dinner we walked the pier at the end of the street and concluded another great beach vacation. Dont miss out on Mr P’s. Its priced well, good quality, and is a cozy atmosphere. Everything about them is great.

Outstanding seafood in quaint Southport. The catch of the day was literally caught by the owner this morning. Our waitress was very knowledgable not only about the freshness of each item, but also the source. Honestly, I’ve never encountered a more informed report about the seafood and I was very impressed. Everything sounded so wonderful that I couldn’t decide and had the mixed grill. Great choice as I tasted the catch of the day(flounder), the oysters which today came from Smith island, VA, a crab cake, local shrimp, and scallops. It was all fantastic, especially the oysters. The choices for sides are equally as difficult to choose, however I knew the fried green tomatoes would make the cut. For my second side I opted for the new potatoes. Again, great choices. If you’re not feeling like seafood they also offer great steaks, soups and salads but you’ll be missing out on some terrific seafood.

Go here! Now. Seriously. My family came here for dinner when we were in town for vacation. Our meal was nothing short of superb, and we are used to fine dining in NYC. That’s how good this place is. My dad, who has eaten at some of the best restaurants in the world, said his meal was excellent, the lobster was huge — the best one he’s had in years — and the prime rib melted in your mouth. I had the Underground Tuna and it was delicious. My brother ordered the blackened tuna and he raved about it. My brother’s girlfriend ordered the Maine lobster and would not even give up a bite to anyone — that’s how delicious it was. The pan-roasted clams should have been in a photo shoot, because the dish looked like it was picture perfect. Even the sides, corn, green beans, and fried green tomatoes were all tasty, fresh and interestingly prepared. This dinner made our trip and we’ll remember it for a long time. Thank you, Mr. P!

Mr. P’s Bistro has a very good reputation with locals as a nice place to «treat yourself». That’s all I needed to hear. Reservations for five please. By the way, reservations can be important here — not only because it’s popular and busy, but because there are fewer restaurants in town. The restaurant is a little«cutesy» and unassuming from the outside. Once inside, it does truly have that romantic, dim lit bistro feel. For starters, I had the Three x Three — a mix of Oysters Rockefeller and Oysters Bienville — both were hot delicious, creamy cheesy goodness — spinach, bacon and cheese versus shrimp, shallots, garlic and mushrooms. I would have trouble picking a favorite. The Pan Roasted Local Clams were delightful — cooked with white wine, butter, shitake mushrooms and country ham — nice little twist! The Caesar Salad with Grilled Shrimp was good as well. The Smith Island Seafood Okra Gumbo I had was unfortunately a bust — it was not spicy as noted in the menu, and I mostly got big pieces of tomato and one shrimp — if there was okra, scallops, crab or fish in it, I didn’t get any… My main course was a really rich, flavorful dish, the Grilled Beef Tenderloin Medallions. Two large medallions were cooked to perfect warm red rare centers, covered with grilled scallops and crabmeat and drenched in red pepper hollandaise. It should come with a guarantee that you won’t be hungry until lunch tomorrow. Luckily we also came on half priced bottle of wine night(Wednesday) and had a nice German Riesling. Our waiter was a very nice, polite young man who did an impressive job taking care of some picky eaters! Yes, it’s on the pricey side but we felt like we got good value for the money, especially with the nice wine special surprise! Would definitely go back, but skip the Gumbo and try the Chowder instead!

Impressive service, very attentive, amazing menu, difficult choosing from many tantalizing entrees. A real local gem, almost hidden in plain view. My taste buds crave more, I’ll be back soon.

The best seafood restaurant I have been to outside of Hawaii. I have been to Mr. P’s more times than I care to count and I will continue to go back every time I am in Southport. My wife orders the scallops every visit and claims they are the best every time. I change up my order but always come away impressed. The staff is always friendly and the ambiance is perfect for a dinner away from the kids. Could I say more? Absolutely. Do I need to? I didn’t think so. Go check it out. When you are done, drive down to the water and have a nice swing on the shore.

You’d never expect to be greeted with the quality of food this restaurant serves upon first sight. Truly, you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. The shrimp and grits are divine, the fried green tomatoes melt in your mouth, and the oysters go down all too smoothly. I could eat their prime rib for the rest of my life, but it’d probably be cut extremely short if I followed through on that. Can’t wait to be back next year for vacation!
