Wow… Wow…Wow…service, food and of course Margaritas! Burritos so big I couldn’t finish and I’m 6 foot 265. Wife loved the flavored Margaritas and I had Eddies Revenge Margarita. Not sure what I did to Eddie for him to have revenge like that but wow, what a Margarita!!! Ask for Debbie… awesome server, very attentive! First time here, we WILL be back again and again.

Now in my 50s, I have been dining out for twice the length of time as most of the people reviewing this restaurant. I will start by saying that every time I come here I am impressed by the service… no less than 2 to 3 waiters, the food, which has never let me down and the atmosphere, which is always warm and pleasant. You can expect to play half of what you will pay at other restaurants in the area. Tonight we tried the black bean soup and a chicken tortilla soup, along with the Supreme fajitas and a pork dish that was perfectly. I can always count on getting a unique flavor here that I can’t seem to find anywhere else. To be honest I am a bit fussy and not the easiest to please since I’m paying hard earned dollars for it, but I will come there and again and again and give them my money. The house margaritas are premade and I can’t imagine them improving on the recipe one bit. Just be careful not to have any more than two of them if you are driving. Honestly, I don’t know why they are getting less than four or five stars as a rating. Just try them out and see for yourself.

Used to go all the time when it was El Sombrero’s and just recently went in for the first time since its been Eddies. The food is the same and the service was good, too– a little slow at times but it was a busy Friday night so that is to be expected. We got some appetizers to split along with some margaritas. This is where the lost star went– for a Mexican restaurant, my margarita wasn’t too impressive. Not sure what it was about it(I’m no bartender) but it wasn’t a typical margarita that I’m used to getting at other places. Maybe it was truly just too authentic? Not sure. All I know is I switched to Corona after that! I’ll go back to this place when I’m in the mood for Mexican food. Still slightly better than Puerto Vallarta in the sense that Eddies felt more personal and the prices are more reasonable.

We love Eddie’s Sombrero! We have gone since it was Señor Panchos, then named ElSombrero. It was wonderful that they renamed it after Eddie! We miss him! The margaritas are the best around and we love to substitute all of our dishes with their spicy rice! Always friendly service which makes for a perfect dining experience!!!

This is typical mexican food nothing over special on the menu. The food is well prepared and pretty good. The table side guacamole is some of the best in the area. They have a really good margarita menu. I really enjoy the sangria margarita. My kids really enjoy this restaurant. The last time we were there they had a two man band playing throughout the restaurant and the kids loved it.

I miss Eddie. He was a friend and an all round great guy. The crew at Eddie’s Sombrero are living up to the standards he laid down. The hospitality is wonderful. The woman who made the guac table side was friendly and made a great product! I encourage anyone to try it, it’s excellent!

Used to be El Sombrero, now Eddie’s Sombrero, but the menu and décor is the same. We went in the early afternoon when we were the only customers, though we have seen it busy and jumping later in the day. The staff are always kind and courteous, food served quickly, and the portions are very large!(Worth noting if you end up being addicted to the wonderful fresh salsa and chips beforehand, you might struggle with an appitizer and main!) Having tried Puerta Vallarta locally too(which was good), it still can’t match up to Eddie’s. Going there on my birthday and it being let slip, the staff had to come out and sing and offer me dessert, but while this is a little cheesy and embarrassing at some other restaurants, it was much more of just a fun party gesture here.

We have tried most of the Mexican restaurants in Hartford and New Haven Counties and have yet to find one that rivals Eddie’s Sombrero. We keep coming back to The Hat for not only their unequaled chips and salsa but also their nice variety of entrees and weekly specials. We have introduced many of our out of state friends to The Hat who now look forward to dining there when they come to visit. Their tableside guacamole makes a great appetizer while awaiting your meals. Service is another thing Eddie’s takes a lot of pride in as well. The staff is courteous and attentive to assure an utmost dining experience. They have earned our return business. Don’t forget the margaritas. We haven’t found any as good. If you’re up for a challenge, try Eddie’s Revenge margarita. My favorite is still the traditional margarita on the rocks with or without salt. The frozen ones seem to be just as popular. For the beer drinkers they have a nice assortment of Mexican and domestic varieties. So you can’t go wrong if you are in the mood for excellent Mexican dining.

Been going here for around 15 years. Solid Margaritas, chips and salsa, and combo plates. I swear most of their prices haven’t changed in 5 years!

Went here for the first time the other day. First thing we did was order a margarita, and that was the best move to start a great night. We got two margaritas — mango and passion fruit, and they were both delicious. The chips and salsa showed up immediately. Chips were crunchy and thick, salsa was chilled and just a tad spicy, heavy on the cilantro. We skipped appetizers, and that turned out to be a good idea. The entrees were huge and filling and had a lot of variety in taste and texture. The rice was light and fluffy and the beans were beany — just how I like them. Our first dish was Uno, which was a hard taco, soft taco, and a chimichanga. The meat was tender and there was a lot of it. It was topped with a bunch of sauces that I didn’t recognize, but complemented the dish. Second dish was carnitas asadas, of which I was very skeptical. My mom makes a similar dish, and nothing compares. Eddie’s Sombrero’s was different, and the flavors were unique. It came with a few corn tortillas for wrapping, which I’d highly recommend doing. The food was great, the margaritas were great, the atmosphere was laid back. Definitely going back.

Great atmosphere and Chips and Salsa, margarita is one of the best. Great family restaurant with good quality Mexican. It is Tex Mex so be prepared for that. In my opinion one of the best in the area. Not sure why you should go to any other Mexican restaurant.

Bland, Dry, Oily, no flavors are some of the words that I would use to describe some of the food experienced during our recent visit. Unfortunately this popular mexican restuarant is not what it used to be in regards to authentic great tasting mexican food. Everyone(7) in our group was really disappointed by mostly the slow/bad service. It took a long time for us to order and we had to ask for our waiter several times. We had a difficult time getting drink refills, salsa refills, and never did get another order of chips. Myself and another in our group had the fajitas, which did come out sizzling and hot, but had no flavor; the tablespoon of guacamole and sour cream was a very small portion, the cheese was flavorless, and the tortillas were barely room temperature. The plate of sizzling food include additional vegetables such as carrots, broccoli and squash, which are items that seem out of place in this dish. Other items ordered were the rice and beans; luke warm, dry and flavorless. Some ordered the burritos and mentioned that the food did not have flavor. All of our orders were correct but most people in our group were sad about the lack of service and the downward trend in quality of food. I am sure we will come back, but it maybe awhile.

I sent this message to them after a particularly bad experience and received no response — even after I sent a follow up. This experience occurred on 8÷1÷14 and I do not plan on ever returning. I wanted to share with you our experience this evening. First, let me say that my family has enjoyed coming to El Sombrero since it opened. It has been one of my favorite restaurants in the area — always my first choice when anyone says«where do you want to go to dinner?» We’ve been anxiously awaiting the reopening — and were thrilled to read on Facebook that it had finally happened! Of course, when my kids and I were talking about what to do tonight, all of us agreed — Eddie’s Sombrero! We arrived a bit before 6:30 and were told it would be a 15 minute wait. My kids stood against the wall to wait while I poked my head in next door. I came back out and waited with them for a while, until my daughter noticed that a party of three that had arrived after us had been seated. When I asked how much longer the wait would be, the hostess informed me that she’d called our name and we hadn’t answered. We’d been standing less than 20 feet from her. We were seated next, however. After being seated, our waitress said she’d be right with us. We waited. We’d finished with the menus and were ready to order by the time she finally came to our table, only to get our drink order, not our food order. Our drink order consisted of 3 waters and one margarita — and someone delivered the margarita before we got our waters… and before she came back to take our food order. We finally got to order — a child’s chicken fingers and applesauce, plain cheese(no sauce) enchiladas with double rice, and sloppy nachos. And then we waited. And waited. We had to ask for chips and salsa. And we waited some more. My four year old got antsy. We played a LOT of I spy. We sang the Wheels on the Bus. My daughter finally asked me what time it was and I checked the time. It was nearly 8pm. I asked a hostess to check on our order — at this point I had a cranky and hungry little kid(not to mention my teenager and myself being cranny and hungry as well). A few moments later the waitress, as well as the manager come out to apologize that our dinner order was lost in the kitchen. I was asked if I wanted another drink while I’m waiting, which I declined(one El Sombrero is my limit when I’m the only adult with my children). I did ask for a Diet Coke. I had to ask two more times before our waitress remembered and brought the soda. Our food came out with only one side of rice with the enchiladas and no spoon for the applesauce. These were quickly remedied, but the fact that they happened at all after the lost ticket was grating. When I asked for a refill of my soda, I was brought a regular Coke with the check. I then had to ask for a Diet Coke — to which I was told that it must have been the bartender’s fault. I was exhausted — I am exhausted — by this dining experience. Because I didn’t want to order anything additional, the only thing that was not on the check was the Diet Coke that I’d ordered — despite the exceptionally poor service that we received. I understand that the reopening only just happened and that this is a period of adjustment for the restaurant and the staff — however, I feel as though the fact that I was attempting to be understanding of the situation led to an experience that has severely tainted my opinion of El Sombrero. We finally left after eating just our main course(no apps, no desserts) around 10:30 — four hours after we had arrived.

Went there on Sunday 9⁄7 for lunch and was pleased with the quick service and good food. Our drinks were constantly being refilled(without being asked) and the food came quick. I loved the décor and know I have found a Mexican Restaurant I will visit often!

I was driving back from NY and wanted some great Mexican food. It had been a while since I visited El Sombrero and so I pointed the car in that direction. I had some people with me, one of whom had never visited before, so it was a chance to make an introduction. The food was great like it always is, we had a couple special requests that were accommodated. On a sad note, the Restaurant founder Eddie has passed away, so now family members are running the place. I think the same food and spirit are there, I would recommend the renamed«Eddies» El Sombrero in memory of the founder to anyone who wants good service and good Mexican food.

Save me some salsa! My family and I used to come here to dine occasionally. Now, we have been drawn back in… Drawn back by the salsa! This is based on our first visit back recently to pick up the classic salsa and chips to go. We were driving past Southington, and remembered this restaurant and cantina, and its good salsa. We decided to take the easy trip off the highway and stop in. El Sombrero – now Eddie’s Sombrero – still has the same décor and ambiance it always had. It’s been maintained well. The staff was also pleasant and made our order easy and quick. And the salsa is still as delicious and crave-worthy as ever. Fresh and perfectly seasoned, not too hot with a perfectly balanced mix of tomatoes, lime, onions, and cilantro. If you get it to go – which you likely will after you have your first taste – you’re given the option of 16 ounces(small) and 32 ounces(large). Now try and control yourself and get the small, unless you know those won’t last too long and you’ll crave more. Just make the trip back to Eddie’s Sombrero. It’s worth it for the salsa! My family and I will definitely be returning to sit down and try the food again… If we have enough room after indulging in the salsa!

Thank you for closing for rennovations without informing someone who had a party booked at the restaurant. Thank you for ruining our festivities. You’ll never see me coming back too bad I liked the place. I hope nobody else books a party here so they don’t get screwed.

A nice alternative to the Mexican chains. One thing I didn’t like about the place was the level of saltiness. Just because its Mexican doesn’t mean you have to load up on the salt. The salsa that came with the chips was decent. My little sister devoured it. I’ll be honest I didn’t come expecting great food. I came in because I had one of those coupons that gets mailed out regularly. I thought I was getting a great deal but the minute I sat down he the waiter said the terms of the coupon changed and we had to purchase a beverage. No big deal but the non alcoholic beverage selection sucked! I don’t drink soda and pretty much have given up sugar but for the sake of the deal sucked it up and ordered a lemonade. How about some traditional Mexican beverages? We went with beef and chicken taco because I was turned off by the sudden change of terms on my coupon. This darn coupon arrived in my mailbox this Saturday! Anywho my tacos were actually delicious! The rice was fluffy but way tok salty. When ordering out I thought you normally get three tacos? Well they serve two tacos here. Seriously if I was hungry this would not have been acceptable. $ 17 out the door with tip, I guess it’s not that bad of a deal but I was eating like a broke college student. Staff was nice but definitely cheesy. It seems they were nicer if you came in as a couple. Do they think singles order less or don’t tip well? Pffft!
