I moved a year ago from the city of Chicago — where sushi restaurants are ubiquitous — to southeastern Michigan. I tried a sushi bar in Dearborn and was not at all impressed. When I learned about Black Pine Tree Sushi Bar in Southgate, my expectations were not high, but I decided to give it a try. I was genuinely impressed. I tend to stick to the basics, and their Philadelphia and Spicy Tuna rolls were wonderful. The restaurant features a pleasant décor and friendly servers and chefs. I look forward to future visits.

Best sushi in the downriver area! Today I had the all you can eat Cali rolls. The restaurant is clean, the waitstaff and sushi chefs are professional, and most importantly the sushi is amazing. Fresh, tasty and the presentation is beautiful. I am so glad I have a great sushi place downriver. I won’t name names but a competitor down the street is nowhere near as good. If you want excellent sushi with fresh ingredients in a clean and relaxing setting with amazing service, come to black pine tree!

We ordered take out for a Netflix and chill night and it definitely lived up to our standards. Food was fresh and came out in a timely manner. Will make this our staple sushi place that’s not too expensive and close to home.

Food was good; however, the service brought my rating down a bit. Host tried to seat 4 when we were a party of five, server poured water in a glass of Sprite, left empty plates on the table, failed to follow up after order was delivered… and food took too long to come. First server had zero personality. We had multiple wait staff and the last ones did make up for the first one! Oh, the manager needs to roam the tables to ask how things are going.

After moving back to Michigan after living on Oahu for the last 12 years I felt the a crave for sushi. Needless to say me and my wife were disappointed. I suppose this could be «Great Sushi» by Michigan standards. The prices are extremely high for what you get and the quality is questionable. I have seriously had better sushi rolls from 7 – 11 in Hawaii. Man I miss Genki and Ninja Sushi!!!

Handrolls I ordered were great– the spicy tuna and cucumber avacado. The I nside décor was awesome, nice wall art and very nice inside. menu has a nice selection, even for those of you not into just sushi. Will def try again next time I’m in town.

Very disappointed. Not authentic at all. I’m from Hawaii and they have better sushi than this. The sushi chef does not know to how to make sushi. Everything was so dry and didn’t taste right. People over here need to try real Japanese sushi and Japanese foods before rating this place higher. Beside that the service was great and the host guy was very nice attentive.

After hearing very mixed reviews about this place I ended up going and deciding for myself. I went with a friend around 130p on Wednesday and we were the only people there for a good 30 minutes so our service was obviously amazing since the ratio was about 4 employees for each customer. I ended up getting the lunch boat and my friend got the box that was on the lunch special menu and it was really an excessive amount of food, definitely more than I expected which was a pleasant surprise. However, the literal boat that mine was served in looked visibly old and didn’t compliment the food that was served, it almost looked dirty even though it wasnt. The food was pretty good but not the best sushi or Japanese food I’ve ever had, I’m just happy there is a sushi place downriver because 5⁄6 years ago we never had options like this so close to home. Overall, I’d go back for sure if one of my friends suggested it, but I would never go out of my way to go to this specific sushi place when there are much better ones in Dearborn and Royal Oak.

This place is incredible! I moved downriver and was disappointed in the food down here until I found this restaurant. Their sushi is amazing. Great variety. The miso soup is also very good. It’s reasonably priced. I can’t wait to try the bi bim bop. The service is a little slow but it was worth the wait. So far this is my favorite sushi I’ve found downriver.

First glance, strip mall sushi… Walk in, realize that they moved to a bigger location for a reason. Busy, but not an over crowded feel. Got the Chicken Tempura appetizer, quite tasty, but for the price, would have been nice to get more than 2 strips of chicken among the veg. I got a Spicy California roll & a Kamikaze, we’re both fresh &FAB. Fiancé got Bulgogi, huge portion & very flavorful. Good food & service, no complaints here!

It’s nice to have a place downriver to get your sushi fix. Seeing as there are now 2 on Eureka, hopefully that means more will continue to pop up! Went here for lunch yesterday with my little sister. They now offer AYCE California rolls Mon-Wed(I’m assuming to compete with Sushi Kami). We had a big mix of items– edamame, soup, salad, dragon roll, and a boat. Our dragon roll came to our table with the shrimp still warm on the inside. Our boat had a great selection of samples that we could share. Chicken teriyaki, california roll, 3 pieces of nigiri, a shrimp tempura and assorted veggie tempura pieces, along with their standard«potato salad» and«cabbage with some ginger dressing on top». Everything was delicious! Our server was busy, but was prompt, kept the drinks filled, and cashed us out without needing to wait.

Frankly I enjoy sushi and I wanted to get out of my comfort zone and get the angry California roll. Hope it’s good. I came here before and I got a spicy shrimp roll and it was good. Well at least I thought it was good. My mother didn’t actually enjoy it but I was very into it.

Been coming here since they were located right by the redwings shoe shop. All I could say that it’s one of the best places to get sushi here in the downriver area. I’ve never really been a big fan of sushi rolls since this is pretty much an American invention and there was a phase where I was sort of a snoot when I came to sushi rolls. You can’t really go wrong with their nigiri sushi since their chef knows exactly what he/she is doing. Plus their cooked food is really good as well. From the Unagi box to their Japanese curry, it’s top knotch. Their sushi rolls are actually very good. Great selection and variety, plus they have my ever so favorite spider roll. Weeeeeeeeeee! You guys rock! Keep on kicking ass guys! Add me on instagram @rodtorres3

There was nothing really extraordinary about this restaurant. Service was good. It was a tad overpriced for the quality but then again, there aren’t really many downriver restaurants that serve sushi, Japanese and Korean dishes. The bibimbap was decent. If you are really craving bibimbap this may curb that craving. I really liked how much crunchy rice there was from the stone bowl. The tempura udon had ok flavor. I was expecting more tempura veggies and at least one more shrimp. They only give you one shrimp and 3 veggies. It’s not bad if you are downriver but there are definitely other places outside of downriver if you want better Korean and Japanese food!

I must say that this sushi restaurant has the best sushi I have ever tried. We got a large assortment of sushi and they were all very good. what really stood out where a couple things: the SAKE: they have a great coconut lime sake which is less filtered and very tasty and strong. The sparking sake was ultimately my favorite and up until my visit here I didn’t really like sake.‘ SUSHI: This restaurant is very innovative as I have never seen sracha on sushi, which is a shame, but they have it on a couple of rolls here. My favorite roll was the fresh roll, made with lettuce instead of seaweed… amazing! so light and delightful APPETIZER: The seaweed salad and Octopus salad was quite amazing. The octopus was fresh and well balance. What do I mean by that? it was just made very well. I recommend it STAFF: the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. DECOR: I would say above average compared to some of the sushi places I’ve gone. I would compare it to Little Tree in Royal Oak. PS I live in Royal Oak and I would go there any time I feel like having really good and innovative sushi.
