This was the best diner food I’ve had since my last trip to Jersey. Omelettes are $ 5-$ 7ish and include toast; hash browns are $ 1 add on. The staff is really nice too!

The best Greek Salad in Michigan!!! I always get mine with extra feta, no beets and extra everything else. They always get it right. Hats off to the owner and the staff!!!

This was a good Coney Island with better eggs/omelettes than most. However, with slightly less than half of the tables filled and most tables with food already on the table, it took an hour for our food to arrive! For two people with two small children. And the coffee machine was broken, so they were serving microwaved coffee from a plastic soda pop pitcher. Given the number of Coney Islands in metro Detroit, you can find a better dining experience.

Typical coney fare, if you are from Detroit you’ll know what that means and what to expect. Friends in from out of town? Don’t feel like driving to Layfayette or American? Starlight is a solid option. Pepsi on tap, chili, mustard, onion and hot dogs on a bun ready to go with a little grit around the edges. The bathroom is gross and the waitresses have worked there 45 years each. Pretty much true Detroit… but in Southfield.

This is a good breakfast and lunch spot. It’s representative of the Detroit coney island/diner/dive restaurant. I don’t personally see the five star rating, but if I grew up on this, I could see that fifth star for nostalgic reasons.

When I was living in Michigan this was my go to spot for a great coney and greek salad. One of the food items I miss the most, living here in Seattle, is a Starlite Coney. When I do come back to visit I make it a point to stop and have lunch. Without question the best coney in Michigan.

Best Coney Island in Metro-Detroit that isn’t Lafayette. Make no bones about it that this is a dive coney island and not a fancy restaurant but they make great food. Chili is amazing, hot dogs snap, fries are always done right. They are consistent, friendly, and the same family has owned and operated this place since at least the early 80’s when I started going there.

I went there this weekend with my son and his friend as we were in the area going to the Great Lakes Bat Festival in Southfield and found this on Unilocal. When we went in there were only a couple other people there eating at the counter. My son gave the chilli dog a 5 star; his friend gave the cheeseburger and fries a 5 star and I had a very good greek salad. The service was very good and I talked with the waitress and owner and they were really nice. I always love supporting a family owned business that works hard to please their customers and are approachable.

After seeing all the five star reviews I had to check this place out so we came on our lunch break. One annoying thing is our food was not served in turn. We put our order in, another group sat down and ordered and got their food before us. This is not a quick turn coney. We waited about 15 minutes for our food, which seems a little bit slow for simple orders…(omelettes, salads, tacos). Food was pretty good, but I wouldn’t call it much different then most other coney islands. Overall, not a bad experience but I wouldn’t call it five star.

I love this place. I have been going here since the early 80’s when I worked down the street. The best, by far coney taco ever. Order it «extra gloppy». Sam and team know what they are cooking, no pretension here. Fast honest food

This is a coney island restaurant, but a great one. I ussually go here to eat breakfast, and now that I’m getting older I try to eat healthier, and that’s where this place excels. The cooks are what make this place. It’s a family run place and these guys have been cooking short order for some time. You order your hash browns cooked dry and that’s just what you get. The thing that really sets this place apart is that you can still get the breakfast specials with egg whites or egg beaters for an extra .60 cents, they don’t hold you up because you want to eat healthy. I’m told they have great coney’s and gyro’s, but like I said I come here for the reasonably priced healthy breakfasts, they never dissapoint.

Best coney island restaurant in metro Detroit. Great food served by a great staff. Whether it’s been a big breakfast, a quick lunch or an early dinner I’ve never been disappointed with ANYTHING I’ve ordered.

I know, I know… 5 stars is a bit ridiculous for this place… but hear me out. Disclaimer– You need to now that you are not going to a cute bistro, or a fancy new american restaurant, or even a charming fusion place. In fact you are going to a GREASYSPOON. The ambiance is poor(which is what you expect) and the waitstaff is exceptionally friendly(again as expected) if any other place looked like this, I would not eat there. This place has a certain charm that I never got over. Let’s be serious– ITIS A GREASYSPOON… And I have to say it is great at what it does. They do coney Island type things. But that is not what was so good. The chili they make is the best I have had in Detroit and you can get it without beans. They also have a great spinach pie. Good enough that when, I used to work down the street myself and all of my Colleagues regularly frequented this place. It was definitely worth the trip if you can handle a greasy spoon. Not for the faint of heart.
