Well let’s start with the manager. What an amazing person NO a better description is a DYNAMO. Karen is the face and persona of customer service. Sure I could go to a different store, closer to home. I tried once and then again. I was just a face in a crowd. This manager DEMANDS that the people that work for her know your name before you leave, and when you come back in they remember who you are! So I will ALWAYSDRIVETHEEXTRAMILETOSOUTHFIELD to buy my furniture from this team and their leader Karen! Thanks again for the free delivery and paying my taxes on this great couch and love seat! I had such a wonderful experience here! I plan to buy a house within the year and will definitely come back here in order to furnish it. I came here recently just to buy a sofa and was helped by extremely nice salespeople who made the experience very easy. I found and ordered one that I liked but, upon delivery, I found that the couch was going to be too big to fit in the intended room. I went back to the store to see what I could do and they gave me a full refund right away. I know that that experience could have been a huge headache at another place but the people here were helpful and friendly the entire time. The prices are also incredibly low for the pieces they offer.

I bought a mattress that I was told would soften after a couple of months. Bought it in July and I still wake up in pain. Do not believe that the gel firm mattress have been in a cold warehouse and will soften in time. It’s December 2015 and it’s still hard. Gotta buy a mattress pad for a $ 1600 mattress set. I’m so disappointed. Wish I had shopped around now. My fault I didn’t keep up with the return date but if I had, I wish I’d been able to get the store sample. Keep your dates and receipts handy so you don’t go through this

Horrible experience!!! If I could give 0 stars I would. After doing our research for a couple of weeks, we were waiting on the right sale to close the deal. Once it was available, we went into the Southfield location and took about 10 minutes of the salesperson’s time to tell her what we wanted and the paper work took another 20 minutes or so. We were scheduled for that night for delivery — Great news! But then it all fell apart… They brought our headboard wrapped in moving blankets, while the rest of the bed was in boxes. The headboard was damaged and must have been a customer return or floor sample which we did not want. So we sent that back. Later we opened the box containing the footboard and found that was also damaged. We called the next morning(as it was already 9pm by the time the delivery guys got to our house and the store was already closed). We talked to the sales person and she apologized and asked to send pictures which we did immediately. We asked her to call us to make sure she got the email, which she did not. We called her back and asked if she received them which she did. She said she would get a brand headboard and footboard delivered a few days later. We scheduled the delivery and waited in the mean time our $ 3000 mattress is on the floor. The delivery came and they only had a headboard, this time in a box and no footboard. We opened the headboard and again it was damaged. So we had to send it back again and we still don’t have the replacement footboard. We tried to call her back a couple of times and left voice mails. Finally after hours of waiting, she called back and again we rescheduled again for the middle of the day on a Monday which means we had to take time from work to wait. We tried to reschedule for after work delivery, and we were told that a service tech would be out. We did not ask for a service tech because we didn’t need one since we didn’t have our furniture yet. Additionally, we were told by the sales person and automated phone call that we would have a delivery of our furniture. My husband is now at home waiting to make sure that we receive the furniture in excellent condition on the third try.

We enjoy our couch. The people were fairly pleasant when going into the store to check out couches. If I had to compare it to anything, it’s something like dealing with a car salesman. I bought a couch previously, and after 4 years it began to wear and tear. The leather flaked off of the couch. I was told that it’s likely due to not conditioning the leather yearly. They’re less expensive than lazy boy but the quality isn’t the greatest. If you’re looking for cheap quality, go for it. You get what you pay for, definitely.

In September of 2014, I made a purchase at Gardner and White. The service representative told me that they were running a special which included no tax or interest on the purchase and a pair of Detroit Lyons tickets. Well, her statement was only partially true. The no interest for five years has been adhered to so, and they did send the Lyons tickets; however, when I left the store, I owed 5500.00 and some change. By the time they got done altering the bill, I owed over 5900.00 dollars. When I inquired about the change, I was told that the special was either the Lyons tickets or the tax break and that I selected the tickets. I am not even a sports fan, and they claim that I would elect Lyons tickets over the tax break. This was not true. I decided to take it as a loss and pay the bill until I went on to check my account balance today, and by my calculations found a 100 dollar discrepancy. After speaking with a representative, I was told that it was not a miscalculation but that the 100 dollars was applied to the account before the store added the extra charges to the bill. The service representative flat out lied to me in regards to this special. Consumers should beware when conducting any business at the Southfield, Michigan location. Although I would like the taxes taken off the bill as promised and the original bill reinstated, I am almost positive that this will not happen; however, consumers should be aware when conducting business with this company. Consumers should also be extremely vigilant in checking their accounts on a monthly basis because if I had not checked the account and just continued paying the bill I would not have known that the taxes were added to the account; they did not notify me. As a matter of fact, I filed a dispute with the credit card company thinking that someone had made a fraudulent charge. Thinking in hindsight, a fraudulent charge was applied to the card as per the taxes that they claimed would be waved. BUYERSBEWARE!

I don’t know if Heather J. got a new sales associate that was hot to trot, but I have loved this GW location because the sales associates introduce themselves upon my arrival then leave me alone until I ask for further assistance. I avoid all ArtVan locations because all the sales associates hover and prod, making it a stressful and annoying experience. We bought two leather reclining couches, a bed frame and a Tempurpedic mattress from GW Southfield and were very happy with 1. the cost of the couches and bed frame(the mattress price had some shock value but that’s set by Tempurpedic and the same everywhere) 2. the sales experience 3. the promptness of delivery. The sales associate we worked with on each purchase explained the delivery and warranty options without trying to push anything extra on us. We’ve had the couches and bed frame for over a year now and they are holding up very well, and the mattress we purchased has made a huge difference in my husband’s chronic back pain.

Furniture hunting for something more glorified than an IKEA table set is a nightmare sometimes. Little exists between IKEA and Thomasville levels of cost, but if you prefer not to spend two months’ salary on a suede loveseat and matching chair, Gardner White may be the place to go. First up, they always push sales and specials on their website. Get this nineteen piece set(fourteen of them candlesticks or spindly-leg chairs) for $ 1,299 with a 51″ HDTV! Don’t pay taxes, we’ll pay taxes, someone pays taxes, just not you. 15% off all in stock animal print recliners! It’s bewildering to navigate. For a deal, you don’t have to wait for the semi-annual sales, a big plus when you need something now for that corner of the living room. I rolled in here with the beau open-minded to what style or colour of sofa I wanted. Sectional or traditional loveseat and couch? A lovely fabric chaise or leather? All these options were on the table, but Gardner White really doesn’t offer much up in the way of options. Most of their stock comes from the big daddy of the US furniture market, Ashley. A sea of monster leather couches, some reclining and others so deep they’d swallow a baby elephant, fills the back end of the store. The front holds the city’s largest collection of basement furniture. Basement furniture: oversized, huge cushions, stuffy arms, big padded sides that you could sink into. Wrinkly microsuedes which beg for an iron and wide-wale corduroys stolen from 1987 seem to be the only fabrics around. Colours are brown, beige, stain-swallowing tweed or ketchup red. Not really to my tastes, nonetheless I persevered and tested just about every couch from back to front. My husband and I weren’t seeing much we liked as we fought to pull one another from whatever chair we were drowning in. We found one or two strays stiffer than boards, landing with a backside bruising thump on «contour spring foam» that might be shorthand for«tortures reserved for an unwelcome guest.» At least the huge, body-eating recliners offered consolation for a time. Unfortunately, pushy, hovering sales associates marred our shopping experience. From the moment we stepped in the door, they descended like hawks from two sides and, like teenage girls, introduced us to every other associate nearby. What’s the tag team for? In case one of us slipped the net and possibly stared longingly at a table or a huge fabric Venus Flytrap without observation? We were hardly the only shoppers there, but our sales lady unapologetically kept interrupting our conversations with«Do you have any questions for me?» or «Oh, this one is GREAT, let me tell you all about it.» Even when all signals are«leave me alone» and«I’m fine,» spoken politely and with a smile, the Gardner White staff aggressively persisted in stalking us around the store, never more than a couch away. It’s like I’m the new girl talking to the star quarterback, and my every move needs to be monitored. Well, guess what. I know where to find you if I need you. I was so put off by this sales technique that we pretty much hustled out of the store.
