Well not sure what to say since I didn’t get to buy or try anything. The shop itself is nice. I guess the issue was that no one bothered to acknowledge us the entire time we were there. There was only one guy who seemed like his only job was among donuts? But no one offered to help us or even said hello so after about 15 minutes we left. So I probably won’t be recommending this place to anyone.

Wonderful selection of cheeses, many of them local. I was excited by the variety of goat cheese. The lady who owns the shop was friendly and helpful in suggesting Looking Glass Creamery Ellington goat cheese. Nice bright clean place with lovely gourmet food selections. She also let me sample some delicious plum chutney. Sweet and spicy; I bought it!

A gem of a cheese shop. Get the Blue Moon or Tickler. We crave them now ! Each cheese has it’s own descriptive card. Worth the drive!!! They also make delicious grilled cheese. This is not fast food, this is great food :)

A tasty foodie stop in downtown Southern Pines featuring artisanal cheeses, house made sandwiches, a refrigerated gourmet goodies case and an attached oil, vinegar and spice shop. Worth a mention is the goat cheese cheesecake and the rotating feature of local North Carolina cheese and meat products including local bacon. Locally made candies by the register are also tempting, and folks looking for North Carolina souvenir trinkets will find a few things to gladden their hearts. It’s not the largest gourmet shop in the state, but it is a worthy stop for downtown Southern Pines, and foodies will enjoy the small but tasty selection of yummy treats. Cheese is sold by the quarter pound, at reasonably comparable(if predictably high) prices for artisanal local product. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, especially in the oil and vinegar section. Overall worth some browsing time if you’re doing the downtown stroll in Southern Pines.

Woman behind the counter ignored us for about 5 minutes and then skipped us in line. It came across as very rude. Cheese is of varying quality but there are some pieces that anyone with experience would laugh at. $ 7 for a nub of rind.

I have been to this little shop a few times now and it is just such a neat little store! They have all kinda of stuff that you just do not see very often, as well as trinkets, gourmet cheeses, and sandwiches. Even if I don’t intend to buy anything I still enjoy stopping in just to look at their new stuff and try some cheese samples when I’m in town. I will say that the sandwiches are kinda pricey, their basically overpriced grilled cheese sandwiches, and are really rather small. I ordered one called«The Dude» on my last visit, which consisted of bacon, speck(smoked prosciutto), and beer cheese all on a bun that resembled a large english muffin. This was a $ 7 sandwich, which I only even considered paying because of the meats, but even just a «Classic» grilled cheese was $ 5! It was a decent sandwich, but I would not order it again, for the price and the size it was not anything special. However, even if you don’t plan to order one of the sandwiches I would absolutely encourage anyone to stop by! They have an awesome selection of cheese, though I have never bought any because I am not a cheese lover, they are still fun to check out!

Good people, great cheese! The first time I stopped by here, I got some cheese and marveled at the bacon they had. The owner of the store says to me «if you want thick-ass bacon, we will cut you thick as bacon». Is it any wonder that I love this place? Today I stopped by for lunch and grabbed a sandwich(Steve’s Favorite Things, a grilled cheese with bacon and pickles) and root beer. What a great quick bite! I have decided that I am going to try and eat all of their sandwiches, because, well… I can’t imagine them making something that isn’t wonderful!

A decent sized cheese-tique that has a variety of duh cheeses, meats, and other things you may pay attention to but I didn’t(i’m here for the cheese!). It has an assortment of about 20 – 25 cheeses ranging from soft double/triple cremes, to hard cheeses, and a few blue. The owner is a sweetheart and a pleasure to do business with. My recommendations are: If you like soft cheeses like brie, try their Fromage Affinios or their Green Hill Camembert(Kah-meh-behr for you non-frenchy speakers). If you’re a blue cheese lover get the Rogue River Blue Cheese, one of my top favorites. Also try their Talaggio, Ill warn you that it stinks, but it tastes absolutely delicious.

Southern Whey has a small but high-quality selection of cheeses, honey, mixers, and other foodstuffs. They offer grilled cheese sandwiches that are shockingly good. In the back there’s another store that sells spices, oils, vinegars, etc. The service is top notch and about as friendly as it comes. This is one of those shops that could probably be a five-star if only for a little more stuff. As the shop continues to grow, I’m sure that will happen.

Such a gem in Southern Pines! this store has a wonderful selection of gourmet cheeses, and you can sample anything you want. They also put a number of samples out every day. There are some meats and mustards and breads and other accessories for sale, too. They offer four or five different panini using their various cheeses. The shop Is always clean and looks great. The owners are very nice. As an added bonus, the shop is attached to an olive oil and balsamic vinegar shop! Great location.

I was so excited to try this shop! The service was great, with staff more than willing to discuss the variations on offer and provide samples. I tried a fig & honey goat cheese from a local farmer that was so delicious I ended up buying a small wheel. Unfortunately, when I tried it at home, it was a completely different cheese! I wish I could give them five stars because it was lovely, and I think it was a random bad batch or something… but I was so disappointed. The cheese I went home with was salty to the point of being completely inedible. I guess that’s the risk one takes when buying real cheese made by a real person! I will definitely be going back again anyway.
