A very pleasant surprise is found in this small shopping plaza. If you like home style French cuisine you will smile when entering this wonderful resturant. The resturant is quite small, service is superb and the cuisine is very traditional French, not Americanized. The options are limited as are the specials so arrive early or you will be quite restricted. We tried many starters from the soups, try the tomato, to snails. All were quite tasty but not excellent. The entrees were good but several of the appealing specials were gone by our 7 pm seating. It is a byob resturant which is a great plus. If the food was a good as the service it would be a five star resturant. Overall if you like this cuisine you will be quite happy.

The quail was superb, subtly flavored and stuffed perfectly. The beef medallions were tender and cooked to the perfect medium rare tinge, but with that French genius that lets them be fork-cuttable. Garlic and tomato soup, expert and simple. The service was superior; hand-behind-the-back professional and deft. This was among the finest meals I have had west of 128 in Massachusetts. Actually, among the finest in New England. We were so happy to discover it.

My boyfriend and I dined here in April, and my only regret is not writing this sooner! The ambiance was great. Such a charming little restaurant. For an appetizer we had the pâté de campagne, and it just melted in my mouth. For the entrée we had the confit de canard. It was absolutely phenomenal. So tender and flavorful. Expertly prepared. For dessert we had clafoutis aux fruits which again, was absolutely delicious. Also, considering the quality of the food, this place is reasonably priced. Certainly not a «cheap eat», but worth every penny. I’d travel the hour and a half just to dine here again. I wish I could explain in more detail how wonderful our experience was, but it’s been so long. I hope the fact that it made enough of an impression that I’m still raving months later helps to get my point across! :)

Awesome lunch! Gourmet food, absolutely delicious and the price was fine. If only more lunches were like. I highly recommend you to try this restaurant.

Went with some friends for my BF’s birthday celebration. The restaurant is small and intimate. They take reservations. We sat down and the bread basket was filed with nice tasty warm pieces of french bread… this place does not give you butter nor olive oil… that is not French(according to the restaurant’s website… LOL)… I got the Duck Leg confit and my BF got the Hanger Steak special. Both were good and delicious. Prices are not high for a French bistro. It is BYOB. Portions for apps, entrees and desserts are small-to-perfect size, which I like because sometimes they give you so much food, you end up not savoring the food, but just stuffing your face with it… Oh…and if you are celebrating a birthday, the chef’s wife comes to your table and sings Happy Birthday in French for you… Great voice and great experience !!

What a deal! This is a sweet place to dine on superb French country food. The owners wisely keep the menu short. You’ll end up wanting to order it all! But read the Bistrot’s very smart and funny web page first. These folks don’t want you to be surprised by genuinely European ways – like great bread that needs no butter and good beef that will not be burned even if requested that way.(Just order the chicken if you don’t like real beef!) The Metro is BYOB and that sure holds down the price of a great meal. The restaurant is easy to miss because it’s tucked into a mall but set your gps and find it!

This delightful place really is a bistro as might be found in France: an informal and unpretentious small restaurant with a menu that is typical French bistro adapted to whatever high quality food is locally available. On my visit in late July this year I had parchment baked fish, which was well prepared and delicious, with a delicious chocolate mousse for dessert.(No iceberg lettuce salad with bottled French dressing here!) Prices are very modest given the quality of the food. No liquor license, but they have an arrangement with a liquor store down the road that has a display of good and inexpensive(mostly French) wines selected by the restaurant. The owners/operators are a couple who have had other careers but clearly know about food, one of the owners is French, the other is from the area but has lived for years in Europe. Owners very welcoming and friendly. This place is a gem. This must be the best food in the area, and far better(and undoubtedly healthier) than the usual steakhouse or chain restaurant. Well worth the short detour for anyone driving through the area on the Mass Pike or visiting Sturbridge Village, and even worth a special trip to Southbridge. Small place, suggest calling ahead for reservations. A fine mini-vacation would be a night or two at the nearby Southbridge Hotel and Conference Center(a fine place that my wife and I stayed at, where discounted rooms are often available through internet sites) and dinner here combined with a visit to Old Sturbridge Village.

There is a joy of life in the food, the ambience — the owner’s artisan personas fill the senses from the moment you walk in. I felt almost as if I had stepped into a French impressionist’s painting — as it was being painted, the colors, the smells, the artist’s intention poured into the food and the experience. If you speak French, then your joy will be doubled. We were greeted en Francais! The food was not up to the par of the best snooty restaurants in a large city, neither in presentation, nor flavor, but it was also never meant to be. It was simply plated and very good. I ate every morsel and lapped up the drippings with wonderfully crusty bread. Go again? I can’t wait!

We travel to the Brimfield Antiques Flea Market two or three times a year and always have trouble finding a decent place to eat. Usually end up at a Thai restaurant, of which there are several, all OK. Saw a small notice about Metro Bistrot and decided to give it a try, even though the directions said look for the Subway and it’s next door. Tiny place with a thread bare arm chair by the front door, no table cloths and paper napkins. Even so, it could be worthwhile. Menu straight forward, no obfuscations about what was being served. We all had the tomato garlic soup. While only a few steps from the kitchen, it was warm, not hot. But OK; needed a touch of salt to bring forward the garlic. I tried the cassoulet although not a fan of boar meat even when made into sausage. The cassoulet confirmed my dislike for boar meat but otherwise was very interesting. I make it at home and mine is more robust. Chef Jay explained he cooks his for four days. I only cook for one day, reheat and eat the next. As soon as I got home I put the white beans to soak. I hate to take up an oven for 4 days but perhaps it will make a difference. The sausage will be different and duck comfit varies depending on the duck but we’ll see. I will go back next Brimfield but this time with a chilled bottle of wine and will try the fish. You don’t see escargot much these days but if Jay supplies enough bread I will try them also.(They all come out of a can but the prep differs from place to place.) Based on the warm soup I would say 4 stars for such a pricey place.

5 Stars! Beat feet on over to this great spot. They are reasonable and totally out of this world. Super nice to chat with as they are interested in their patrons comfort. Hey locals you need to help this out of this world establishment. They are having issues with getting their liquor license. I love this place. Not sure what to hold up is it is a BYOB and they will cork it for you. Wine shop down the street will assist with selection prior to your visiting Metro Bistrot. I cannot say enough about this great place and the service was out of this world. I had the fish and yum! The better half had the Ragout Veal. Wow! Amazing. Get on up and dash on over to experience some magic at the Metro Bistrot.

While traveling in the Sturbridge area for business just off the Mass Pike I noticed that Metro Bistrot was only 10 minutes away. Looking for a change of pace for lunch, this quaint bistro was the right decision for my business meeting. We were greeted by Jay, the owner and were offered a overview of the menu to set the mood of the excellent service of our dine. I enjoyed the Tourin soup(delicious) and my entrée of the Crêpe de fruits de mer(also delicious). Our dessert of Mousse au chocolat was served personally by chef Marie-Paule. Today was an experience of exquisite French dining and superb service by professionals. The interior of this restaurant is charming and completes this dining experience as the perfect package for a memorable day. Highly Recommend !

I almost hate to write a review for the Metro since it might only clue more people into this hidden jewel that we accidentally stumbled upon about a year ago. Every visit has been wonderful! It is a unique dining experience from the menu, to the service, to a visit from Jay(the owner) who will make sure you understand absolutely everything about the evening’s selections. Every meal has been a treat and you’re encouraged to sit back and enjoy the evening since they only do a single seating per table per night. It’s BYOB, so don’t forget to bring a nice bottle to further enhance the meal. And make sure to save some room for the chocolate mousse his wife makes. It is the best ever!

This is by far my favorite restaurant. I’ve been coming here consistently after a fantastic first experience. Bring a friend and a bottle of wine and definitely take the time talk to the staff and the owners. The sweet-breads, duck confit and the in-the-shell escargot is enough to keep me coming back. They frequently serve specials and the portions are always fantastic. I can’t stress enough the need to have more restaurants that don’t just treat you like a table to be turned over. Five stars.

My wife and I enjoyed a very nice meal and lots of attention on a recent Friday night. The owner of the restaurant showed to a high table and introduced himself. He made us feel very welcome as he gave a information about the restaurant and his wife who was the chef for the evening. This was a nice touch and a nice beginning to the night. Our waiter Tom was very attentive as he came by frequently to ensure everything was to our liking; replacing napkins and silverware and cleared off finished plates efficiently and also with a smile. He also suggested our meal telling us what plates desserts or appetizers he like the most he was certainly an asset to the restaurant. This is and by far a French themed bistro for both service and food. We started with a tomato garlic soup and a duck pâté which was extremely well prepared. A basket of bread was brought to the table sans butter and oil by design as these additions do not mirror actual French cuisine. One entrée was a seafood crêpe accompanied by cold spiced cauliflower and a purple cabbage. The second entrée was a special of the night which had white beans, mashed potatoes, cauliflower and cabbage topped with white sausage link, chicken leg, and veal with light sauce. We finished with a decadent chocolate mousse and a slice of custard apple tart with ice cream, coffee and espresso. This entire meal with tip totaled $ 85 and we were fortunate to bring a great French wine as this is a BYOB. We will be back!!!

Wonderful hidden gem! Delicious authentic French cuisine is served in a warm inviting environment. While dining here you feel as if you are transported to a café in France. The food is delicious. I love the quiches and tomato garlic soup called tourin. They are B.Y.O.B as well.

This place was recommended by a fellow foodie. My husband made a reservation for Friday night. We looked forward to our date night all week. We were not disappointed. The place was tastefully decorated, small and intimate. The noise level was a perfect; no need to whisper or yell, a great place for conversation. We were promptly greeted by our server. He was attentive, but made it clear that the table was ours for the night. The establishment is BYOB which is wonderful. I loved that people at neighboring tables had an assortment of eclectic fine wines(not supermarket brands). The menu is small, but robust. The food was fresh and tastefully spiced; with simple but complex flavors that added depth and dimension. It was obvious that the food was prepared in keeping with the locavoir slow food philosophy. I am positive that nothing on my plate was prepared in a microwave or came out of a can or box. This place is a gem. I would recommend it to everyone who wants to embrace dining as an experience or a destination. Cheers! Anne

Found this great restaurant in Southbridge where the dining options are limited. It is small but when we were there(Thursday) it was not crowded. Best part is BYOB! Any place you can bring your own wine is already a winner. We had Cassoulet, a cod special and a home made tomato soup. All the ingredients were fresh and tasty. And the food was not covered in butter and salt. It is shocking to find a restaurant where they lay off butter and salt and let the ingredients stand on their own. If you are looking for heavy, buttery, saucy cuisine this… is not the place. But if you like fresh ingredients, eat here!

Such a wonderful neighborhood gem. The food is thoughtfully prepared and really has wonderful flavour. The pricing is very reasonable for the quality. The staff are knowledgeable and delightful. For those mentioning portion size, the concept is European — keep the portions sized and prices reasonable so that you can enjoy a starter, a main course, and a dessert. I’m so pleased to have this lovely place nearby.
