Came here on Father’s day, had to wait maybe 10 mins. It’s a cute small place with big flavors. Saw pretty good reviews and gave it a go. The staff is friendly. The fish was fresh and the uni was delish. I recommend the 12 piece chef special nigiri. Kama is my next favorite sushi spot

This was our second time here & unfortunately my dining companion wasn’t impressed the first time(he wasn’t happy with the selection of the sashimi & miniscule amount of uni in his uni soba a month ago) so he didn’t want to come back. I had wanted to come back again, but after this visit there won’t be a third time. Last time we saw a nearby table order the wagu on fire beef & I was impressed by the flame, but tonight it was unavailable. Uni was also unavailable. But what was strangest of all is that daikon was unavailable for the tempura sauce. Huh? The sushi chef said it was because«quality daikon is not available at this time.» Huh, what? Daikon is always available at the grocery store. Sounds like you need a different source for your produce & other menu items. The tempura was OK but not spectacular… I would have liked to see it fried lighter & lacier. This time I did order the«Smokin’ sake» which I had seen last time… salmon sashimi under a glass bowl of Applewood smoke. Looks interesting. Slide the fish on a salt block instead of dipping in soy sauce. Unfortunately I have to agree with my companion, the result is nothing special. I wonder how they clean the salt block for each guest?(Maybe I shouldn’t wonder…) Also the honey walnut shrimp sushi roll tasted weird, I think because the walnuts were over-toasted and didn’t taste like walnuts anymore. I know, that is not traditional Japanese sushi. I was looking for different in my choices that night. I was expecting something that tastes like the honey walnut prawns entrée in nearby Chinese restaurants(which I don’t think is a traditional Chinese dish either). The edamame tonight tasted over microwaved(i.e. mushi). Careful, the liquid seasoning dribbled down my hand and soaked through my napkin, staining my clothes. Uh-oh. I really wanted to try their poke(which is misspelled poki on the menu), because of interesting additions, e.g. mango, but my friend didn’t want to because he is a poke purist/traditionalist and a picky eater. I figured it was too much to order just for one person. I should have ordered the poke instead of the Smokin sake. Oh well. Kamu, we tried for you. Sorry.

I took one star away because of the service. The waitress didn’t really seems too happy working… However, the dishes were pretty good. Their uni soba is super good. short wait for a restaurant with a capacity of 25.

WHAAAA! How can anyone not like this place? We’re so harsh on our reviews but this place exceeded my expectations. Perhaps it was because we came early and there was no wait and the waitresses were nice to us… but let’s just focus on the food. The Smokin’ Salt thing was AMAZING. The salmon was SO fresh, melted in my mouth. The smokiness definitely came through and with a slight brush of the Himalayan salt, DELISH. $ 3 a piece is pricey but well worth it to try this at least once. The Red Lips roll was okay to me. I didn’t like the taste of the spice. I’ll be coming back to try some of their other specialty rolls. The bento box– UHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, SOWORTHIT. $ 14 for 3 choices and it was HUGEEEOOO. PLEASEGETTHESALMONKATSU. WHATTHEFFFFFF… ish!!! SOGOOD. Ok, sorry. Too many CAPS. Anyway, coming back here and hopefully hit up the HH too. Kamu into my mouth baby!

I don’t understand how possible this restaurant can be rated 4 star!!! It lower than average of Sushi quality in the Bay Area. But I saw they treat specially to ‘food critics’ visiting the store. Don’t get confused, the food u get is NOT the same as they served to reviewers from the food magazine. Lot of marketing work, not so much at the quality of food itself. And by the way… What kind of ‘authentic’ sushi restaurant offer takeout sushi? Maybe because It’s not fresh anyway…

Many options for rolls but not too much for small plates. They have specials on the board. The food itself is ok. Sashimi is fresh but the rest of the things we ordered were ok. The Red Lips was really spicy but it carries a good kick for those who like spice. The sea bass is small and wasn’t as silky as I’d expect. The fried ice cream was doughy and melted quite fast. Space isn’t too big so come early if you want a seat.

After seeing the beautiful photos on Unilocal I just had to give this place a try. I placed a takeout order for a 12 piece chef’s choice/omakase nigiri(you can also choose the 8 piece option) and a Red Lips Roll. The portion is fairly small and cost $ 55 which I found a bit steep for the quality and the quantity(I could hold the whole meal in one hand). Service was meh. I don’t ask for much but a smile would’ve been nice but the waitress just looked really deadpan the entire time. On the bright side, this would make a good place to grab a meal alone. The sushi bar had quite a few patrons dining alone and the restaurant is small so it wouldn’t be too awkward. The Red Lips wasn’t quite what I expected. I actually liked most of it. The real crab was seasoned well and the white fish was perfectly seared but the sauce was a bit strange. Like a cross between Sriracha, tomato sauce, with the slightest bit of A1 taste. Overall a good roll but a little pricy(3.5÷5) The chef’s choice nigiri was around $ 35 which is fairly cheap for a 12 piece omakase. However the quality isn’t great and I’d rather pay the extra $ 5-$ 10 and get the 8 piece from Sushi Sam’s especially since the 4 extra pieces I got were a very typical selection of albacore, shiro maguro, salmon, and tuna. The tuna was sooooo fishy. I don’t say that often because I love a «fishy» taste when its supposed to be there. But this one was so fish that I smelled it as soon as I opened the box. The salmon was also below average. It lacked any flavor and was basically mush. The rice amount was small(smaller than my fingertip) which would be great if this was AYCE but the ratio was awful for an actual piece of nigiri. It was also very poorly formed and fell apart when I tried to pick it up. The other specialty fish was a bit better. Not great but definitely more fresh than the tuna or the salmon. The lightly seared pieces were good but I do wish they did more to the fish like add some toppings or even just brush it with some soy sauce.(2.5÷5) Overall I’m a bit torn. The meal was decent and the selection of fish(and fusion rolls) available was good but for the price I expected much more in either quality and quantity.

True rating 3.5 Came here for dinner on a Saturday night. When I went in, I didn’t realize how small the place was. I was seated at the bar, service was pretty fast. We ordered: Red Lips Roll: Do not recommend, was not feeling it at all, the sauce is super weird, tasted like A1 sauce. Not good combo Smokin Salmon: This is there most famous one. Pretty interesting experience. You definitely tasted the smokeyness. It comes with a salt block so no need for soy sauce. Uni Soba: OK, not that great. Kinda bland 8 piece Omakese: OK, it’s decent for $ 25. What you pay for is what you ask for pretty much. Under the Sea Hand roll: Recommend! Very good, what can go wrong with uni and ikura? Generous amounts of uni. Overall, it was OK, I think what brings people here is the Smokin Salmon, to me that was more of an experience. I still prefer Sushi Sam, it might be more pricey, but the quality and taste never fails.

Kamu? More like kamun over!(badum tss. lol!) We found this gem while staying at a nearby Airbnb. Loved Kamu’s food and atmosphere. We also got to meet one of the guys working here(Andy) haha. Hailing from Taiwan, he was hilarious and always wanted us to take on-the-house sake shots with him. Foodwise, I totally dig their build your own roll. :) I go ham with it and get: Seaweed/rice with spicy tuna/salmon/crunchy/cucumber/avocado inside and salmon/crunchy/masago on top. I did say I went ham, right? lol. My husband and I went here twice during our 3 night stay in South SF and enjoyed it both times! I forget what he got the first time around, but the 2nd time he ordered their chirashi and ate it all up.(See pictures to see what else we ordered!) Another yum item we picked up was their Himalayan Hama Kama(their version of the hamachi kama), and it was very juicy and yum. Love the vibe inside, too. It’s cozy(not a ton of seating), but it makes for chitchatting with neighbors fun and easy. Ended up talking with random, cool people our first night there.

Thought I walked straight into hongkong upon seeing the restaurant occupied by chinese staff, wasn’t sure if I walked into the restaurant my friend recommended until I confirmed name on the menu. First 20 min: — Spazzy klutz service — Server started out with a pair of ikura out of the million things we ordered. The ikura tasted like straight up salt bombs. Not a good start as I began to consider shitlisting my friend for the shitty rec. Next 40min: — $ 25 for 8 pieces of nigiri omakase, freshly cut and well-seasoned, completely blows similarly priced nearby Sushi Sam’s and Amami’s over-hyped«omakase» atrocities out of the water with one finger poke — Freshly smoked salmon in a smoky crystal ball, spectacular, after you lift the crystal bowl off the salmon, mop it on the himalyan salt brick for seasoning(smoky crystal ball, himalayan salt brick, mop, foodie experience orgasm) — Wagyu on fire roll, tasted equally legit and comes with more fireworks display that makes a typical white girl squeal and a typical asian girl whip out their DSLR — Uni soba, over-hyped, personally not a fan of soba noodle texture which tastes like a bunch of dirt strung together, go to Usagi for better japanese comfort food Quality, no line, solid bang for the buck, come — — — — — Update 6÷7÷16−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−− Been here a few more times since, execution and dishes are more hit or miss. Recommend: — Sweet boutique bites with apricot donuts and matcha crème brûlée Pass: — Ika with uni, so awkward to eat with a giant stretchy flap of ika covered on top of standard nijiya market uni — Cedar seared wagyu, the meat was medium and carried a mass-reproduced gamey flavor

Decent and unique sushi and great service! I came here for the Bakin’ Salmon — yes the video below steam in a fish bowl. I decided to take my parents here on a Saturday night just to give this place a try. FOOD: The food here is definitely on the pricier side and quality is decent. We ordered mostly shasimi: 1) Bakin’ Salmon($ 15⁄5 pieces) — you’re pretty much paying for the cool show/display and their unique way of smoking the salmon and presenting it. It was definitely fun to watch and eat. You let the smoke work it’s magic on the salmon until you don’t see smoke anymore. You take the«fish bowl» off and you’re suppose to rub the salmon on the block of Himalaya salt provided. DELICIOUS. I’ve never tasted salmon this way before. 2) Mixed Poke($ 12) — Small bowl of various shasimi mixed with mangos and lettuce. I’ve had better. 3) Uni Soba($ 15) — very unique taste. You taste the uni, but it’s not overpowering at all. It actually taste a little more sweet than savory. 4) Dragon Ball Roll($ 13) — I liked this roll for the soft shell crab, but didn’t think it was anything spectacular. They also offer, make you’re own roll and other tapas as well. SERVICE: Overall great service but the food came out pretty slow! I accidentally ordered the wrong roll and they were kind enough to let me reorder so a big plus on that. Also, tea service could have been a little more attentive. AMBIANCE: Modern and traditional mix. There are seats for 2 – 6 people, but be prepared to wait if you come in larger parties(4 – 6 people) since this place is actually quite small. Very clean and nicely presented interior. Don’t see myself coming back anything soon, but the bakin’ salmon is definitely worth a try, if you want the experience and don’t mind splurging a little.

Small restaurant! Def wouldn’t come here with more than four people. Staff is small likewise, with two sushi chefs. The rolls took a bit of time but they were pretty yummy and inventive. My favorite was the Crunchy Blossom. They also have Wasabi stems here, which I haven’t seen anywhere else. You can eat it with your sushi and it adds a salty, spicy kick!

We waited about 10 minutes to get in for lunch. Not bad. But then, we waited about 40 minutes for an order of chirashi sushi, crispy california roll, and honey walnut roll. Not to mention my friend ordered a side of shrimp tempura, but received a mixed tempura plate. The waitress Joyce even clarified if she only wanted shrimp tempura while she was taking our order, so not sure what got lost in translation to get the order wrong. This appetizer and my miso soup came out after 30 minutes. Not the best customer service here– the waitress should check on us while were waiting. Even a «your food is coming out soon» fib would help. I felt bad for my friend About the food. The Honey walnut roll my friend ordered has no prawns –it is literally honey and walnut. The crispy california roll my friend ordered was hard as a rock. Perhaps twice fried and also tasted burnt. The chirashi sushi that I ordered had the smallest portion I’ve had for a chirashi sushi, and it was half salad and half sushi rice underneath the sashimi. The chirashi sushi came out the same time as another customer who ordered the same but arrived much later than we did. The sashimi was good, just wished it wasn’t only 2 pieces for each. I thought this place would be good after seeing the pictures and 4 stars on Unilocal. The ambience is nice, but the food and service were disappointing and I doubt I will be back.

Togo ordered sampled several items my star pick was the 16piece chef sashimi set Here are some of the other items I sampled and how they faired Spicy Edamame — slight kick, the regular unseasoned edamame was better tuna poki — high hopes for the poki sadly, not flavorful, very different from what i’m use to maybe it’s just me, there was mango slices in the tuna poki, cucumbers, onions, and some roe, usually with poki it has that buttery soy sauce base you can taste, with this dish it seems it was just pure poki unseasoned but yes allot of roe added to this dish which I do appreciate dragon roll– standard, good not the best I had, composed of all the things you love about sushi, unagi(eel), shrimp tempura, cucumber top, avocado, unagi sauce and slight sprinkle of seasame, I would order this again The 16pc chef sashimi set — probably one of the better things on there menu, every slice was well proportioned and prepped with consistency around the board, I will come back for this set if not anything else when I come here. food *** 16pc sashimi set is the way to go price $$ service *** they do get busy prepare to wait 20 – 30 min per order ambiance **** small, quaint, clean, few tables and bar section for individuals

I used to work nearby and this was a fun place to go to get away from the office. It is a more upscale Japanese restaurant — you can still get a bento box or chicken teriyaki, but it will be a touch fancier than your ordinary dish at an average Japanese restaurant. They start you off with a kind of egg pudding which is just the right amount of savory and sweet. It’s a nice treat to start the meal. The menu has a lot of traditional items and rolls, but also many sushi specials, fusion rolls, and various cuts of fresh fish. The salmon belly sashimi is salty and buttery — very tasty. My personal favorite was the prosciutto sashimi which came with an aioli and capers. I was surprised that everything worked so well together. This is the kind of place where you see a lot of things on the menu and have to narrow down to what you will order — I would come back again and again if I was nearby just to try more things on the menu!

Organic 4 stars Tiny place service is meh parking is worse but I did like what I ate and I want to promote organic options out here. People were raving about the Smo’kin Sake. It’s Sake Toro Sashimi held under a glass of Applewood Smoke and you let that flavor soak all up in there I had to post a video. It is served on a plate of pink Himalayan salt. I would do it for entertainment value too ;) The tea is good and I don’t know if that’s organic seaweed salad but it’s um different I guess, not used to the flavor. So battle parking, squeeze in, beat the rush and enjoy!

Kamu Sushi may be small, but the dining experience feels big. Pretty much everything I’ve had here is tasty. I think everyone should try the Smokin’ Sake at least once — the smoked flavor wasn’t mind-blowing for me, but very unique and delicious, especially with the fresh fish served on a block of himalayan pink salt. I’m a big fan of Kamu Sushi’s happy hour. Asahi drafts are $ 3 and they have a good selection of HH appetizers, like salmon kama(my favorite), garlic shoyu edamame, calamari, mix poke, shrimp & veg tempura, etc. Those were all quite tasty, especially for the price. I’ve also tried the uni soba pasta, which wasn’t my favorite. I think I’d rather have uni nigiri, without other factors that might overpower uni’s delicate flavor. The 49er roll was also really good. They have a dessert with apricot«beignets» and green tea crème brûlée that I like! I’ve had real beignets in New Orleans so I don’t think these compare, but as far as fried dough goes, they are tasty. It’s a light dessert that perfectly concludes your meal, so I recommend it! Service here is pretty good. Sometimes you have to work to flag down a waitress, but it’s not unpleasant. One time I was here and the server forgot to put in our beers, and when I asked about them, they were given to us on the house! Like I said to the server that day, it’s that kind of service that keeps me coming back!

We made a pit stop at Kamu Sushi since my friends and I were all craving sushi! We got here right when they opened so no wait whatsoever! It’s a small space, so when it’s busy I’m sure the wait can take awhile. We Ordered ________________________ — Chef Special Nigiri(12pcs) — *two thumbs up* Not bad for the price at all. — Dragon roll — Delicious unagi! — Dragon Ball — Another unagi roll, I didn’t realize until after the food was served. It was still good though! — Boutique Bites — If you like variety get this appetizer! — Smokes Salmon on Himalayan Salted Rock — This was my favorite here! No need to dip in soy sauce since the salted rock sears it to perfection! Overall, great selection for a reasonable price!
