Here’s the deal. This place isn’t going to wow you with beautiful décor or designer chairs and tables. But for you what you get for your buck isn’t bad as some of the reviews would suggest. I’ve been frequenting this place ever since I started working in South City ten years ago. My take on it is decent food at decent prices. I usually go for a combo lunch box with tempura and teriyaki(chicken or beef, depending on my mood), but I have sampled a few of their sushi rolls as well. My personal fave is the Drag-pillar roll. I also like their deep fried California rolls as well. The food has always been consistently good. Yoko’s is good, but I prefer going to Cypress. It may not be as easy on the eyes when you get inside, but if you’re hungry it’s what’s on your plate and how it tastes that matters.

I can honestly say, I WILLNEVERCOMEBACKTOTHISPLACEAGAIN!!! Having to walk through the kitchen to get to the dirty bathroom, having to ask the waitress 3 times for a fork, having to wait for service is totally not why I wouldn’t come here ever again. It’s the fact that I can’t get over how horrible my food was. SERIOUSLY??? My salmon teriyaki was so GROSS. My salmon tasted like it came out of someone’s fish tank. It had the rankest fishyest taste and smell that I have ever experienced. The soup was disgusting! The best thing I ate was white rice and soy sauce. YUCK!!! I’ll pass!!!

Um… where to begin? Well first of all let me start by mentioning 1 is too high for this place in my opinion. My office ordered lunch for everyone, and what a hot mess it was!!! People’s orders were screwed up(mine included). I ordered Chicken Teriyaki and Vegetable Tempura and got the nastiest most disgusting hard chewy & burnt 7 – 10 bite size pieces of chicken I have ever ate in my life! I do not eat seafood at all yet found a shrimp or prawn thing laying on top of my «chicken»! The 3 pieces of tempura that i did recognize(sweet potato & broccoli) I ate. The other 2… I threw away along with the salad with bland dressing. The teriyaki sauce was watery thin like they were running out and decided to fill half with tap water. I could barely taste it. The rice was edible. Oh yeah, and instead of being presented on a bed of lettuce, there were a few shreds of lettuce in between my chicken & shrimp and scoop of rice. Worst lunch EVER!!! I’m not even motivated to give them a second chance. And I’m pretty forgiving & patient with people. But if they knew they couldn’t handle that big of an order… maybe they should’ve said so. If they need the money that bad, then at least have the integrity to give people what they pay for. Love my company for trying, but not a fan of this restaurant. Sorry.

Great lunch spot near the office. I like the bento boxes. I usually order the mixed tempura and teriyaki beef. If I am really hungry, I’ll add an order of California Roll. Real simple food and quick service. Always a default destination when I don’t know what else to eat for lunch.

Hole in the wall restaurant. Cypress isn’t fancy, quite small actually, and the décor is very blah. The food is simple, including their rolls, but reasonably priced and good enough for a quick and inexpensive lunch. Free delivery to the office is pretty convenient as well.(Doh! I just read in one of the reviews that they don’t deliver anymore??? hmmm) oh well… I only eat here because it’s convenient. Definitely not worth driving more than 5min to eat. Pretty good: south city roll and spicy tuna I’ve never tried anything else, but my coworkers always get the chicken teriyaki… looks decent

Because Yoko’s on Linden was packed and it was going to be a long wait, I thought I would look for something I haven’t tried on Grand Avenue yet. I heard about Cypress Teriyaki and it’s one of the new places in the neighborhood… And I WANTED sushi! It’s kinda tucked away, which is kinda cool. It was about a 3rd full, so seating was plentiful. There was also a good crowd in there, so I knew it must have had some potential. Décor is pretty low-end. I ordered miso, a philly and spicy tuna roll. Pretty safe bets. Prices seemed quite reasonable. I got my order in about 5 minutes… Pretty darn fast! Miso was above average, spicy tuna was above average and the philly roll felt heavy and not very fresh. Nothing special really. For the beginning sushi foodie, this place is okay. But when you’ve been around a while… It’ll do when you can’t make it to other Japanese cuisine establishments…

They don’t deliver anymore…(Bummer) The green tea is extremely HOT. the beef has to much fat, all sushi taste the same no matter what you order… They are only open from 11am to 2pm…

Carla’s Take: Sushi is fresh, tea is boiling hot and their rolls are all wonderful. My favorite is the Haven. This place only opens for the weekdays and gets busy around 12:30−1.

Convenience convenience convenience. They’ll deliver sushi platters to our office so I love ‘em. Sushi isn’t bad either. Only three stars since they can be difficult to get a hold of. They’ll fax you a menu once you do get a hold of them though. The restaurant itself is small and right off of Grand Ave.
