Golden State Art

These guys sell total garbage uncut mat boards. Damaged at the corners and cut too short about 1/​8″. They are supposedly 4-​ply mat boards but of different depths as well! Some look like they are actually 2-​ply.
I emailed customer service w/​photos… they did nothing! Great service guys. Now I have to route my complaint through my credit card company. What a waste of everyone’s time and energy.
Oh yeah, they don’t even have consistent pricing. Look at Ebay, Amazon and their website. Three different prices from $ 60 – 90 for 50-​lot mats depending on how much they think they can extract from you. Awesome.
Bottom line, I have never seen mat board lots that are ALL damaged at the corners, miscut, and different depths. I feel sorry for the trees wasted in manufacturing these sorry pizza box-​grade mats.

I am very impressed with the double mats I received which included backs and clear envelopes. Less than half of what I would have paid had I bought locally and shipping was free. The packing was outstanding! Double boxed with protective corners inside and out. Everything arrived in absolutely perfect condition. I am more than pleased with the product and the prompt service!

These guys are super friendly, cheap and really professional. I got three custom cut double mats for $ 40!

I order a regular amount of a certain mat board. They are well priced and always arrive in a short amount of time. Complete price includes the mat, backing a poly bag with a tape seal fold. Since I don’t buy many different sorts of things and just have this regular order, this might not apply to what you might need. They are great for what I need. The price and shipping are just right for me. If you are looking for a retail store, go to Aaron Bros. or Michael’s Arts and crafts. This is a good wholesale place.
I think people should always think twice before reviewing a business that they have only dealt with once. Again, don’t go here thinking it’s a store.

Great products, but a couple notes:
–Most importantly, THEY ARE NOT A STORE. They will sell you stuff when you walk in and are very friendly, but they are a warehouse and well hidden. If you are lost on the road, here is what you do:
The front of the building at 352 Shaw Rd says AA importing (which is out of business). You go down the left side of the building all the way to the back and there is a small sign. Look for door D.
–Since they are a warehouse, it makes it difficult to know what to get unless you know exactly what you want coming in. Good thing they have a pretty good online inventory.
–The only two reasons to go in in person is to bypass shipping and to get your hands on the product before you buy.
Fantastic selection, top notch products! Price is perfect. Great for a starving photographer such as myself!

this place is amazing. I was super worried when I started matting my prints/​artwork because mats are so crazy expensive when you order more than just a few of them, the costs really add up. SO I was super excited to find these guys, because their mats are well-​priced, the mats are beautiful (thick and heavy), their custom cut matting is affordable, their shipping is super fast AND the mats came super protected so they arrived in perfect condition (I had to throw out a few mats from a couple other companies I ordered from in the past because they weren’t packaged well enough). Moreover, I buy their 8-​ply mats because I can afford them now!
So glad I found these guys!!! :D

FRAMES, MATS or BOTH!
I work as an Urban Photographer during the non-​academic year, so I needed some mat sets to showcase my work. I didn’t know much about Golden State Art, so I started with a set to see how it would turn out. I liked it a lot the first time, so I went ahead and purchased two more the next time I had to showcase something again.
For the price of shipping & handling, and the professional quality of the mats; I can clearly say I am a regular customer. Turnaround time was a good 3~8 days and it was great!
Golden State Art has many varieties of mats and frames of many sizes. I think once you shop here, you’re going to realize you’re going to be ordering from here more often.

After my second order, I can say without any doubt that it’s a pleasure doing business with Golden State Art. I participate in photography shows and purchase their sets of mats + backing + clear bags. They come in all the sizes I need, the quality is very good and they are reasonably priced. Since I don’t live in CA, I have to pay for shipping (via FedEx — their cheapest option) and that’s expensive but the package IS heavy. Delivery is fast (eight calendar days on my last order), so it lessens the pain a bit. Tracking is a plus and the packages arrive with the contents in perfect condition, thanks to the way the bundles are meticulously wrapped, with the corners protected and items secured against shifting (they must spend a fortune on plastic stretch wrap)! They are very accurate, too — nothing is ever missing from the box. You can order with confidence from this retailer and I am a customer for life!

Their frame mats are a great deal and good quality. I only ordered one so they charged me $ 5 for a low order since I think usually they do bulk wholesale. I think he felt bad so he gave me two. Anyway, it was still worth it just to support a local facility and reduce my carbon footprint. I’ll definitely come here for my next mat purchase. Note if you drive there, it’s the very last unit in the building and it looks like a storage unit with the corrugated red pull-​down door. There is no sign saying what their business is so it’s very confusing.

\\I found them online & ordered because they had the best deal on mats +boards + plastic sleeves … ordered on a Sunday & received it on Friday. I had to write a review for them because I was BLOWN AWAY with the quality! I was surprised the shipping was as high as it was, but today I realized why — these are heavy & thick mats! VERY nice! Great variety of frame mats on their website. You can’t beat the value and you can pick up whatever you ordered at their shop in South San Francisco. Friendly people. Cheap and high quality matboard!
