We felt like Mexican food, so we decided to give them a try here locally at South Lake, on the way to gorgeous Emerald Bay. Because of the road construction the business access was little hard to find. After one more attempt we arrived right in the front of the nice building. You order the food right at the counter and they bring it to the table. Huge menu is posted over the counter on a board. Great selection of Mexican bottled beverages sweetened with real sugar(no high fructose corn syrup:))) They have great self serve salsa bar, including chips and salsa. Both very good. The tacos we ordered were great. Served on hand made tortillas/it made a huge difference, tasted awesome. Great flavor and texture. Pretty nice ambiance with Mexican folklore decorations. It’s a fairly new spot at the South Lake, with good prices and generous servings that I like because I love good grub. Highly recommended.

BEST taqueria in Tahoe! I always order the #2 shredded beef or taco salad! The chip bar is on point! I love love the green sauce! Staff is super friendly and the portions are very filling. Forever love this place. Been steadily going here for 4 years. Fun fact: first Mexican food I ever ate. Born & raised in NY so after trying several Mexican joints, I would still have to say JALAPEÑOS is the ultimate best!

This place is near by to Emerald Bay’s hiking area. After a good hike, if you want something quick to eat nearby, this is your place. The food is ok. My friend got the chicken tacos, I got the fish ones. The meat and the taco shell could have been fresher. But the rice and beans were good. Most mexican rice can be «soupy» and salty, not here, it was light yet tasty, same goes for the refried beans. Now, what is this place’s saving grace? THECHIPANDSALSABAR! OMG! The salsas are fresh and off the hook! If I could just come back and buy when of their fresh watermelon or canteloupe drinks, and sit out in front on their patio while munch some of their chips and salsa, my life would be complete. Now our dishes might have been a missed that day. Some suggested to just get their burritos and take them on our hike. I would say give the burritos a shot, but DEFINITELY try their salsas and chips, it will change your life;)

Soft tacos can’t be beat! The price is right, and the food is fresh… only wish they had a posted menu on Unilocal or online

Quick, cheap, good food. I’ve never had anything bad here, and the service is fast and friendly. The food is really 3.5 stars but I’m giving it an extra .5 for being walking distance from my house. Lots of breakfast burritos to choose from and they are all big and delicious and only $ 4.50. Great salsa bar too. If it’s busy and you ordered to-go they will call out your order, but otherwise they bring it to you. I order to-go almost every time and always appreciate the friendly service. Oh and one more great thing — if you order horchata to go, they don’t add ice so it doesn’t get all watered down.

Such a great little place to eat! Everytime we eat here reminds me of the little town i grew up in with great mexican food. They have awesome food with good prices… friendly staff! We 100% recommend trying it. We eat here at least once a week… and sometimes twice a week.

We live in San Jose Ca, and my family and I went there and had 2 breakfast burritos and a big plate for my kids. The folks there were so nice. The food was at a great price and gave big portions, and if you order breakfast you get free coffee(how can you bet that)!. If you stop into Lake Tahoe Jalapeño’s is the place.

I have eaten here probably 50 times and the food is always consistently good. The breakfast burritos are an excellent deal and very tasty. The shrimp super burrito is also good. If you look at the lower right corner of the big menu above the register, there are the Jalapeño’s specials. They are combo plates for like $ 5.50. The chips are freshly made in house as are the salsas. I would give 4 stars if it were as good as the Fruitvale or Mission taquerias but its not. Solid quality and value but not out of this world flavor. If the salsa was expanded or changed up some I might reconsider but that is one of the low points and it’s not bad at all.

I was really debating for a while between 3 or 4 stars. I was spending the day here and had rented a bike to get around on. This place was the closest and could be easily accessed by a bike. The place is pretty small, offers outdoor seating. The prices are so cheap! Which I was surprised about, because in touristy areas like this restaurants love to jack up their prices. I got a burrito plus guac with a side of beans and rice and a drink plus unlimited chip/salsa bar for like $ 6?! However, I don’t encourage the chicken burrito, the chicken was really cheap and gross and rubbery but hey, you get what you pay for! The re-fried beans were pretty bland as well. I like how the place wasn’t super crowded, cause the bar/restaurant just down the street had like a 2 hour wait.

Food is 3⁄5 I’d say but gave it a 4 because this place is a great deal! 4.50 for a large breakfast burrito that I highly recommend. Lunch isn’t as good in my opinion. Very friendly staff and free chips and salsa!

We always stopped here whenever in Lake Tahoe. Cheap, authentic and tasty — will fill your Mexican food craving! Love the carnitas burrito! Carne asada can be on salty side but you got to try the carnitas here. Awesome and good salsa bar, informal yet eat-in food comes out in a dish brought to you, nice outside sitting area near the cake shop. Large portion and cheap and this ain’t no Taco Bell stuff but pretty authentic too. Little out of the South Lake Tahoe tourist area up the road but worth it! BTW — Why are there so many negative posts from people living in South Lake Tahoe? Suspect other restaurants in the area as there are quite a few Mexican places but seriously guys be fair and don’t try to smear a good restaurant.

Solid 4 stars Cheap prices, large portions, salsa bar, self serve chips… what more can you ask for after a day on the mountain? It’s not gourmet but it gets the job done deliciously!

Visited this quaint South Lake Tahoe mexican restaurant today for lunch and was definitely not disappointed. It’s a small location but the prices are low and the quality was great! I ordered a small carne asada street taco with a side of spanish rice. Everything arrived within 10 minutes after ordering and was steaming hot and fresh. I also helped myself to the salsa bar which was delicious as well, and fully stocked. I would definitely stop back here again in the future for more mexican cuisine.

Lived in the mission for years and this food is fantastic! Had fish tacos and carne asada quesadilla. Both great. Killer salsa bar with 8 – 10 varieties. Loved th thin white salsa with finely chopped Jalepenos and carrots(so good on fish) Kids had bean and cheese burritos and loved them. Winner!

$ 4.99 carne asada breafast burrito — what a great deal — what a great meal. I like the machaca burrito too. I come here once a month or so when I’m in a rush and in the mood for Mexican food. Not the best restaurant — more of a hole-in-the-wall, but good food for good prices — every time.
