We decided to go out for Mexican food because we were craving good chips and salsa — this place was very disappointing! Everything comes to you straight out of a can or freezer. I am pretty sure the salsa is Pace salsa and the chips are straight from Costco. I could have made better Mexican food at home. It wasn’t gross, just nothing fresh or special — waste of money!

I was 10 minutes late meeting my party. By that point I would have figured they had ordered. They hadn’t even received water or chips and salsa. I asked about the bussers bringing us some water. I was told by our server they weren’t scheduled until 6:30, it was 6:00. Food service was extremely slow and bland at best. My party had all eaten here a week before and loved it. Everyone complained about how bad the food was. Not sure what the problem was, but was not a good experience.

Wow! My wife and I just had the pleasure of meeting Ruth, the new owner. She was a very kind and gracious hostess. The food was incredible and the whole staff is very friendly. They can make almost anything on their menu gluten free and are very aware of cross contamination issues. Circumstances have kept us from going there for a few years, but we will be back as often as possible. The prices are very reasonable, the food is fresh and delicious. They even go the extra mile and use gluten free flower instead of just corn, if you prefer. I expect the new owner to succeed in a major way!

I LOVE this place. Simply down-to-earth good cooking with attention to the small details. Really like the steak, whether in enchiladas or fajitas. Those fajitas are top-notch. The salsa and chips are also excellent. Really have to commend this place for the owner’s willingness to accommodate special dietary needs. My girlfriend has a vegan and gluten-free diet. The owner made up a special salad for her. Just a warning… if this salad is of interest to you, make sure the owner is in and expect about 15 minutes of preparation time. The service here is friendly and the food is consistent. Always a solid experience!

My husband and I love this place! Definitely the best Mexican food in Utah. Locally owned, and the service is always quick and friendly. I love the tamales, get them smothered. The salsa is so delicious too. Give it a try!

Overpriced, bland food. Wasn’t even able to get a Dos Equis to wash it down. I had the chicken nachos. The chicken was crockpot chicken that had been cooked way too long and had become mealy. Not authentic Mexican at all. Won’t be going back.

I’m not sure what I just ate. I got a shredded beef burrito. There was no meat in it, all beans and rice. My son got s steak taco and the meat tastes like it was about to turn. I would expect for the prices for the food to be fresh and they were not. Even the chips had an odd taste, like the oil had been used a few too many times. Service was okay. I would say a 3. I just can’t get past the food quality. I have seen fresher meat on the clearance section is Smiths.

Gecko’s is great! I ordered the steak fajita tostada. Even in the smaller size it was filling and tasted great! Our server seemed a little tired, but was helpful. The chips and salsa are delicious! Definitely would go here again.

The gecko is awesome, the Chilli Verde is actually green and great. The chimmy changas are awesome, alcohol ruins the taste of great quality of food. If you want alcohol, go to those places that don’t care about the quality of there food. But the money of the alcohol. To taste good food for reasonable prices go to the gecko. I have given five stars, and challenge those who love great tasting food with out the alcohol confusing your taste buds. Try the gecko, and order some real good food. Sure wine goes with spaghetti, but the gecko does well with the taste buds on it’s own.

To put it in a nutshell, I was not impressed. This pseudo title of Authentic Mexican food is way out of line here. I went here to enjoy food with my fiancé and her family. I left dissatisfied. Our server was amazing, bless her soul. She really did try. But… great service can not always make up for shoddy food. The enchiladas that I consumed, had no substance to them. It was more of a corn tortilla than anything. The beans had no flavor! You have to cook them with more salt! Or actually cook them rather than pour them out of a can. Would I return? Not unless I had some unforeseen craving for corn tortillas with unflavored frijoles.

Very disappointing. Bland food, pretty sure the one small bowl of salsa we got was Pace, and they do not offer beers or margaritas. Would not recommend nor will we be back.

Not a fan of NOT offering endless chips and salsa! That alone will keep me from coming back. I found the shredded beef tacos to be flavorless and unseasons. Tasted like pot roast. If the chips didn’t keep me away for sure the taco did! I don’t know how to say this other than just saying it but all the servers there were Caucasian and young. Nothing about this place felt like a true Mexican restaurant besides the attempt to decorate it like you’d think a Mexican restaurant should look. I think it could benefit from having more Hispanic influence on staff to help guide its menu and add to the atmosphere. Mexican food and culture should be vibrant and flavorful. It was neither here.

Great food. Wonderful service. Upstanding environment. This is one of the few places I’ve seen the kitchen of and not been digested. Many places have obviously dirty kitchens and tables that aren’t free of fingerprints and smudges. Geckos is a busy and popular restaurant that offers a personalized and custom experience. Food is fresh. All food is prepared on site and can be «made to order.» In sum: clean, fresh, original, and friendly experience!

This is really the last place I would go to get Mexican Food. There is just nothing special about it. The food is mediocre and best and the prices aren’t the best either. Overall, there are just better places to get the Mexican food fix you’re looking for!

I was treated here to a farewell lunch recently and we had a lovely time. I didn’t arrange… anything…I just showed up, but it sounds like it was pretty easy to get the private room, or whatever it’s called, for our group. The didn’t even make a comment when only about a third of the expected guests showed up! Nice, right? Service was good. Our server was accommodating and responsive. While we didn’t have a huge group, she met our needs and took everyone’s orders as they arrived, seeing as people trickled in some. Upon request, she offered the lunch specials menu. It offered multiple options, though they were non-adjustable and had no vegetarian friendly options. Fortunately, the larger menu at least offered the veggie burrito, which was fine. Ultimately, I feel that this restaurant offered large quantities of food for a modest price; however, quality wasn’t great. The chips and salsa weren’t notable, but they were at least present. It’s hard to settle when you’ve experienced excellent Mexican home cooking. I have yet to find a restaurant in Utah that really meets that standard. Some close competitors, though. Gecko’s was not one of them, though they are certainly a step or two above Taco Bell. If you haven’t been before, you might have to make a U-turn like we did. It’s in a little complex along with Zupas, though Gecko’s is a stand alone building. It is visible from Jordan Parkway/10600 S., so if you miss your turn, and are paying attention, you’ll know what to do. Still, I’d suggest looking elsewhere… it just isn’t great. But for most people I know this would be a good option, I just have higher expectations when it comes to Mexican food.

Just you’re average Mexican food chain. Service was good. Food was bleh. Meats were all overdone and dry. Salsa seemed like it was pace picante. Everything was just… boring. Can’t say I’ll ever come back
