This is one of those places, that can go unseen. Definitely a great find I usually just order my food and pick it up. I recommend Spicey teriyaki chicken lunchbox! Good size portion with sushi rolls and tempura. Great bargain. One of my Favs:)

Wtf?!? This place is a joke. I get that there’s no other options for sushi in the immediate area but this place was simply one of the worst Japanese sushi establishments ive ever encountered. Got the combination beef teriyaki and the amount of beef was so small and stringy, mostly greasy fat pieces. It was basically a bad batch of korean bulkgogi with some nasty bottled corn syrupy terriaki sauce doused all over haphazardly. The tempura was also a sad joke, smallest shrimp and greasy tempura with no flavor. The miso soup was obviously a pre made mix that was way too salty abd the salad was inedible. Also got 2 pieces of salmon nigiri just to sample their sushi and it was so thin I laughed. You ll get better fresher sushi from Ralph’s or any ayce place. I feel seriously sorry for the Unilocalers on here who gave this place 4 – 5 stars, do yourself a favor and drive 5 miles in any direction to experience a much better Japanese/sushi establishment. I’d get it if the prices were rock bottom to compensate for the crap quality but its no different than other much higher quality Japanese sushi establishment at this price point. This place makes a fast food chain like waba grill seem like the maestros of terriaki haha. I’m just thankful I didn’t get good poisoning. Stay clear of most Chinese owned Japanese establishments at rock bottom price points, they take no pride in their offerings and cut all corners possible for profit margin. If you want a better terriaki/Japanese/sushi alternative at the same price points here are some suggestion, Bachans Take Out(rosemead), any waba grill, M.Y.O. sushi(west covina), Ono grill(Monterey Park). Granted these places don’t offer terriaki AND sushi but my gosh, try any of those places and you ll realize this place is serving microwaved dog food. Crap Japanese terriaki-sushi places really piss me off and can often be a health hazard. There’s nothing more depressing in the restaurant world then an establishment doing the extreme bare minimum and exemplifying a bastardized version of that cultures cuisine to make a quick profit in an area with minimal offerings of that type of food. Drive 3 – 5 miles away from this place for a superior option you deserve it. I’d get it if this place thrived in a sushi starved area like bumblefuk arkansas but in Southern CA this establishment is an abomination.

Great food and good service. Real close to my house, I’m glad they sent out a flyer in the mail cause I’ve would of never known. The only issue are the chop sticks. The chop sticks are so cheap it’s hard to pick up the good and difficult to hold. Other than that, yummy food. The sushi was excellent and so was the soup.

This place is good. If people are expecting top of the line sushi, then expect to pay top of the line prices at a place like Shushi Gen in DTLA. Tomos serves good food at an affordable price. Chicken bowls are good, rolls are good, and its a good spot to eat lunch. Gets busy and full during lunch hour since the place is small.

So far I haven’t been disappointed at Tomo! They have been able to maintain my loyalty. They come up with great rolls with the perfect ingredients. Love their spicy tuna. Must try everything

3.7÷5 This establishment is down the street from my home so the convenience alone is worth coming here. The sushi is decent considering that you are in a 7 – 11 parking lot. The staff doesn’t always seem extremely helpful but I look at this place as more of a fast food take out place than a dine in restaurant. let’s talk food: The sushi is actually pretty good! I always get a rainbow roll and a heart attack roll(stuffed Jalapeño roll) and they are always great. The prices are similar to dine in sushi places which isn’t exactly breaking the bank for me but something to consider if you’re on a budget. The combos are very large and offer a great variety. My wife and I can split one and still get a sushi roll to fulfill that craving. They have some specials and most things I’ve had from here are good. Overall — it’s sushi from/in El Monte but it’s tasty. I hate having to go sushi but this place works for me and I always see it full of customers. At the end of the day it’s more than just the looks of this place that gets me coming back. If you’re in the area and need some decent sushi, come here.

Service is not very good and location is small. But this is the only sushi place in South El Monte. Only thing I like here is their spicy tuna salad, always take out.

I been coming here for years an its my favorite spot in the area. I usually go with a #27 which comes with a salad, miso soup, california rool, beef, and rice for like under 10 bucks i know a great deal and the taste is there. I also like the catapillar rool and the crunchy california roll

Been coming here for quite some time now and I got to say that they have very good sushi and very well priced… very fresh. I only have one complain but it might just be me… I tried their chicken bowl but didn’t like that… too much connective tissue in the chicken. But sushi is very good and every month they have great deals so I’ll be coming back… And I don’t come for lunch since parking is limited but after 2pm is a good time

This is a small sushi and teriyaki restraunt located next to 7⁄11. Me and my Co-workers come here often to eat since its so close. Unfortunately returning trips maybe less frequent since the food has really gone down hill from when I first arrived. In the beginning the food was pretty decent but from the last few experiences I’ve had the food has really gone bad. Goes as fololws: Service: 4⁄5 Every time we go there’s a very nice lady server & it is usually very clean. Foods: 2⁄5 Fried Gyoza 3⁄5 — Okay, taste like Costco Dumplings, who doesn’t like Costco dumplings? Teryaki Beef Bowl 1÷5− Beef was chewy and absolutely putrid. Drenched in thick teriyaki sauce, seeps to the bottom of the bowl and you teriyaki soup with rice.(regardless of whether you ask for sauce on the side) Teriyaki Chicken Bowl 3⁄5 — Acceptable if you ask for sauce on the side otherwise oversauced like the beef bowl. California Rolls 2⁄5 — Decent but I’ve had better @ Sushi stop for ¼ of the price. Recommendations: I suggest you stay away from the Plates since its probably the same quantity as the bowls but you pay a few dollars extra for a load of shredded cabbage. Overall(TL:DR): Service is good, but food is bleh and not worth the cost, why go here when theres a Yoshinoya just a few blocks down.

It’s a good spot for a quick bite of sushi. Food is decent at best as well as service. Chicken Is questionable, and food may be a bit greasy at times.

Food is excellent. Service is acceptable, but it needs more friendliness. The place is really clean and nice, not too small any at all. I stop by whenever I’m hungry and in the area.

I’ve been coming to this place for over 8 years! Its so fresh! I was kinda skeptical on going to sushi place since I’m vegetarian but to my wonderful surprise, they have veggie options. The Tofu steak it so good. It comes with white rice and an awesome salad. They give you a pretty good serving size for a price that is relatively inexpensive! I am a HUGE fan of the veggie tempura roll. My god it totally melts in your mouth! I have introduced friends over the years and they absolutely love it. The prices are extremely fair, the portions are fairly on the larger size and the staff is totally friendly. Only bad thing I can think of is that they aren’t open on Sundays :(other then that, Its a nice, cozy atmosphere with friendly staff and AWESOMEFRESH food!

Came for dinner around 6pm and it was quiet/empty. The parking lot had plenty of spaces too – not sure if it was because it was a Monday or due to the cold weather. Ordered a bento with miso soup, salad, mixed tempura, California roll(4 pcs), steamed rice and chicken teriyaki. Great deal considering the amount of food you get for $ 9.80 with tax – even had some leftovers. Miso soup: really tasty and served at at good temperature CA roll: just okay; would have preferred fresher/newer rice salad: more like coleslaw, but still good tempura: nothing special chicken teriyaki: good flavor Though overall the food didn’t wow me, I really liked the service. They were attentive and friendly, yet didn’t bother me while I had a quiet dinner alone. Looking forward to trying one of their rolls next time.

Oh Tomo, what happened? Your excuse for spicy tuna is laughable. I feel robbed. Your spicy tuna roll was more like a cucumber roll. Is this what you want to sell your customers? I get it, tuna prices fluctuate but this is craaaazyy. Oh, and there’s also that time where I tried to dine in at 8pm and your server told us we had to be out by 8:30pm. No pressure right?

Came in on a weekday for lunch. The place was not that busy and it was was on my lunch break at that time. Pretty decent food, decent service and decent environment. This is a lunch time kind of stuff, but I wouldn’t come in for dinner. Environment — The place is pretty small and I don’t think they are aiming to please the eye. The space itself is very small with limited seating; the biggest group you can seem to have is 4 people. I cane with 6 people and we had to split into two tables. The menus are sort of dirty and… I guess what I’ve trying to say is that it’s your typical«hole in the wall» sushi that you would come to for cheap sushi. The best time is to come during lunch time because you get what you paid for and you don’t pay much for lunch So yummy for the price! Service — The service is on the slower end. I have to admit that while I came it was lunch hour, but I was sitting there for a while waiting for the waitress to take my order. Regardless of wait time, the waitress was friendly when she was in communication with my group and I. She was attentive and made eye contact while speaking; excellent customer service skills. The food came out at an appropriate time but the check came out slower. Food — Best time is lunch time to come in. The prices are good and the food is decent. My friend ordered something not on the lunch menu and the amount on his plate was the same as mine, but he paid twice as much as I did. I think any roll would be good here. I can’t say for sure that the sushi is fresh because it’s in El Monte and we’re not that close t the ocean… but it’s edible and I would come back here for lunch time if I was in the area again. Make sure you see that they give you the right order because my friend got an incorrect order given to him and he just accepted it because we were in a rush. I recommend for a lunch place! Lunch prices are good :)
