Sam’s Chinese B.B.Q Restaurant

I only come here to pick up food. It’s close to home and fast to pick up. You are able to call in ahead of time if you’d like.
I normally go in to get ½ a roasted duck and 1 lb of the char siu (barbecued pork). The other dishes, like the beef noodles (no gravy), seafood and tofu hot pot, and spicy salt pork chops are pretty good.

The best place ever for Chinese bbq! Ten times better then Sam woo. Walk in sit down, order, and the enjoy. Three item plate w/​rice. Bbq pork, sausage, and soy sauce chicken.

This place lacks ambiance but by far has the best Chinese food east of Rosemead Blvd South of the 10 SB Fwy west of 605 Fwy ad north of the 60 Fwy!

Nothing ever stays the same. We remembered really good roast duck and chow fun when we ate here a few years ago. We came back looking forward to another good meal and were disappointed a few weeks ago. Place was empty except for a family having lunch. Good thing I went to the rest room after I had already eaten. It was gross.

My gf and I decided to tryout this place. We walkin and we asked for 2. One of the worker told me that we had to wait for sitting. I look inside there were 2 open tables. I also look around and I didn’t see anyone waiting. So I asked the worker, «are the table reserved?» They respond «yes» so we waited for 10 or 15 minutes and no one arrived. We were so hungry and I had to ask them «can we get seated and eat b/​c I don’t see anyone coming and we are the only one here!?» So they finally seat is down.
Finally.
It’s our first time here so we took long time to order. You know how that is. Server came to take order and started to speak Chinese. I told him that I don’t speak Chinese. He roller his eyes and he will find someone who speak English. We waited for 10 minutes and no one came to take order. Other guest come in and got set down. Here’s the funny thing, other guest spoke English to the server and he respond back to him in English. His English was good. My gf got so upset b/​c she does not like Asians be racist over asian. We finally order our food (finally) with the same person but he spoke English (wtf?!). We have waited like 20 minutes and food didn’t arrived on our table. Other table got their food and they area almost finished. We are still waiting. We ordered roasted duck and some rice dish. Our food finally came, our duck had barely a meat on it and they were dry. I see other table and their duck had so much more meat than us and look so juicy. I didn’t care to compare anymore since we are beyond hungry. We started eating the duck. We found a hair sticking on the meat. I thought it was hair from the duck. My gf pulled out the hair, it was 3 inches long thick and it was curly. Only curly hair that I can think of is human public hair. I told the server immediately that there is public hair in our food. He started arguing with me saying that I put it in our food. My gf lost her patient, she told the server to bring the check. Surprisingly he already had the check on his hand. He want us to leave. My gf paid the food but no tip since serve sucked and food sucked and thick curly hair. Server yelled at us «where’s my tip?» We just walked out.
Don’t go here. If you don’t speak Chinese they will treat you like crap.

Good alternative to Sam Woo when you’re in the mood for some Chinese BBQ. They serve up tons of classic dishes but specialize in roasted duck and BBQ pork. The food here is always spot on and our waitress was really friendly and approachable. Their lunch specials range from $ 6-​$ 8 and the portions are good for what you get. I would recommend this place if you’re in the area and wanting a filling lunch.

Came here with my parents and. wow. can’t really say much about this place. the food weren’t even that good, and what can I say about the customer service. RUDE. They kept talking and weren’t even paying much attention when we were ordering food. Most of the food were just. overcooked. tsk. My mom was so unsatisfied after the visit and said Ruby’s was so much better. Bad experience, wouldn’t want to come back here for the food.

I absolutely love the food here. Probably the best Chinese restaurant in El Monte. You can eat in or order take out, love it! The reason why I gave this place 4 starts is because when you do eat in the Asian lady who works here is a bit rude. It bothers me that she makes you leave tip. If you don’t leave anything she’ll put the little tray on your table, tap at it and say «tip, tips» and won’t leave until you leave that tip. She never really comes and make sure everything is okay. Besides that I love this place.

3.5 stars. Hubby got take out roast duck, BBQ pork, roast pork, green beans and beef noodles. All very comparable to Sam Woo. Great alt when you’re not close to SW. Total $ 40. Yay for this find. Will add this to take out rotation.

Roasted duck and BBQ pork is the best. The meat is well seasoned, juicy and the pork is extra crispy. I also like the sausage. Other dishes okay and service is good.

No, no, no, no. I came here to pick up for lunch one day. The woman on the phone was rude. She charged me for soup but no soup. I couldn’t finish the chicken. The inside was dirty, and they had raw meat just sitting next to the register. I soon after I left discovered the restaurant is rated a «C.» Wish I saw that before I ordered too, would have saved me trouble. Nopenopenope.

Emergency dinner stop. Don’t be fooled by the interior-​the food is pretty good. The BBQ is excellent. I had the wonton soup, chicken and broccoli, and chow fun. The last was bland but everything else very tasty.

I love their noodles there but not sure about everything else… (I just don’t remember liking the duck much).
But my family loves it and therefore, I’m happy to meet my family and have a good Chinese meal. :)
Good thing about this place is that it is always empty and everyone takes to-​go.

This place was really good. The Duck was crazy good and so was everything else we ordered. My 2 year old loved EVERYTHING. Please don’t let the ‘C’ Rating on the window scare you. It scared my wife but she was pleasantly surprised by the great food. I would love to give a four star rating but I can’t rate it four with only one visit. Will definitely stop by again when I feel like Chinese in South El Monte.

The BBQ department is pretty good since its usually fresh. The special lunch department is on the lines of you get what you pay for. Its not the greatest but the service is fast and its cheap. I recommend the roast duck and roast pork. I want to say that its a good lunch place when you are on a budget with money and time, but if I wasn’t on any budget this is not a place of choice.

The quality of the meat is pretty good and much cheaper than Sam Woo. I will come here for my BBQ pork from now on.
A pound of bbq pork is $ 8.55 whereas at Sam Woo its $ 12.50 for a pound.
Service was friendly and attentive. Street parking.

I always get bbq pork on rice. They don’t skimp on the meat like other places. They give so much in fact that I never finish so there you go that’s that.

Whenever the family wants some take out, they always send me here. We usually get five to six different dishes and they’re all very good. Food is nice and hot, flavorful, and they don’t skimp on the ingredients.

Wow… I Cannot Begin To Say How Pleased I Am With This Place. 234 Items Are Listed On Their Menu Talk About Variety. The Service Is Awesome Everyone Is Friendly. They Have Fresh Duck And Pork During The Morning When It Is Prepared And I Mean They Have The Whole Pig And Duck.
I Went With A Friend And For Our Meal We Ordered Half A Duck And A Order Of #130 Shrimp Fried Rice. The Rice And Shrimp Were Recently Cooked You Can Tell The Difference Between Their Fried Rice And Other Chinese Restaurants That Have Rice That Is Blasted On The Heat Lamps All Day. This Rice Was Freshly Cooked, The Vegetables Were Crispy And Tender. There Was A Lot Of Shrimp In Our Plate Mixed With The Rice It Was Awesome. The Duck Was Just Unbelievable It Was Tender Juicy And You Can Taste The Seasoning On It… Yum. The Duck Sauce Was Amazing Just A Little Drop And It Is Like The A-​1 Steak Sauce For Duck!!! Wow It Was Awesome You Could Tell That The Duck Was Recently Cooked As Well It Was Not Dry, Hard, Or Bland None Of That. The Food Here Is Also Sold By The Pound If You Want So You Get A Lot For Your Money Here And Quality Food.
The Food Is Not Cold Or Crusty And Dry It Is Warm And Recently Cooked. I Will Definitely Be Returning They Have Great Variety To Choose From: Platters, Soup, Chop Suey, Hot Pots, Porridge, B.B.Q Rice, Fried Rice Plates, Steamed Rice Plates, Noodle In Soup-​Lo Mein, Chow Mein-​Chow Fun And More I Am Just Reading Off Of My Menu Here.
