Walked in with two friends and were served by a «Sarah» and asked if she was new to Santa Cruz and we were talking about having a suntan living in Santa Cruz and she told me to «fuck off» as well as a bunch of other trash talk even after we left her a tip! We will never go there again nor will everyone I know that hangs out at jj’s. Super lame bar

It’s rare to go to a bar where the bartender thinks you’re less than trash because you dress differently than the regulars. That was exactly my experience a few weeks ago. I’m sober, wanting a drink, waiting politely and the lady bartender looked at me with a scowl and treated me like an inconvenience, like I wasn’t a paying costumer, like i needed to scram because it was some sort of a private club. Neighborhood bar, this is not. She poured me a very very watered down drink with a side of angry face. I ordered 3 drinks and tipped appropriately. Lady, you do not know me, nor do you know what I’m going through. Did you know I just had a baby, that this is my first night out with friends, that I’ve had zero sleep in 2 months? I left my jacket behind and came back for it a few days later. «Oh yeah, we had your jacket and then we put it in the staff room and now it’s gone.» Whatever. I’m done talking to you. Shoo fly shoo. Okay, I get the hint. I’m not a regular; I’m not welcome.

Great little dive bar, very old school. Baseball on the screens, nice selection on the tap, fun and off beat clientele and staff. A fun place!

Twice I’ve had to teach the«bartender» how to make a kamikaze. Literally the most basic shooter you could ask for. If the owner would be more concerned with hiring qualified bartenders rather than hiring girls who will wear short skirts(not joking. That’s what he tells new hires) this wouldn’t be an issue. But, I guess he doesn’t want to run a real bar. Sad, really.

We came in Thursday night for karaōke. We were celebrating a bachelorette party in Capitola and it was our first night in town. The music was good, although you couldn’t understand the DJ when she called names or songs. So so it was an okay little dive bar.

I love this bar! Awesome bar tenders! Free food Monday nights. Pool is .75 cents and descents sticks and descent table. Karaōke on Thursday nights, there busiest night of the week. Hit or miss on the girl scene. Beer selection is not the best more of a whiskey bar.

Froggys pub is a fun dive bar with a mixed crowd and that’s what makes it cool. The bar tenders are nice and the service is good.

This is my absolute favorite bar in town. The prices are great and the drinks are tasty. They have a pool table, five TV’s always playing some kind of sport, cold beer, and great company. No, it’s not constantly packed and is not a «hipster» bar. Sometimes you’ll go in and you’ll be the only person there. Sometimes you’ll go in and meet the awesome afternoon crowd and have a blast playing dice and talking to older timers. it’s just the epitome of neighborhood bar. They don’t serve meals in house(except on Mondays), but there are LOTS of options surrounding the bar and they have menu’s for them all. Most of the restaurants will deliver to the bar and if you just want something to munch on there are chips and hot dogs available. Speaking of Monday’s, that’s when they have E & J Catering come in and set up for dinner from 6−8pm. Every week is different and you cannot beat the deal. Freshly made, for only $ 8 you get a dinner salad, a large entrée, and dessert. They keep each months weekly menu in bar so you see what’s going to be available in the following weeks. I have eaten here almost every Monday night for the last two months and have yet to be disappointed. Also grabbing some Bagelry then going next door and eating it with a bloody mary is mighty convenient. Love this place.

I love Sir Froggy’s Pub. We came here on monday night and the place was nice and quiet. They had a fire going in the fireplace, it was the perfect place to sit and have a drink with my boo. The drinks were stiff and very cheap. Wish that I lived near here, because I would be a regular. Only warning: this is not a hipster place or a club. This is a laid back atmosphere to enjoy the local flavor and environment.

Came here for some continued drinking fun after the Crows Nest the other night ago. The place was EMPTY. I mean seriously, EMPTY. Besides our group of around 8, there were only 4 – 6 other people. The bartender lady was cool. She gave me water cause I was the DD. I like when they don’t give you crap. :) They have a pool table which made hubby’s day. Only $.75 to play. Overall and nice little bar.

Well if I’d written this review back in 2008 when I was last here it would have been five stars. I’d longed for the day when I’d set foot in this bar once again and since moving to CA from England it was #1 on my priority list to get back to Sir Froggy’s Pub in Soquel. Many an hour on my vacation was spent here in ’08 with my poor wife having to drive my drunken ass back to our hotel after propping up the bar buying shot after shot, one for me one for Ray — the most awesome bartender I’ve met in America. And yes I even bought the branded merchandise and brought it home with me. I used the beer glasses daily which is reflected in their extreme fading from my dishwasher! The fact that homeless people live under the bridge next door and get wasted with the regular patrons was just awesome to me, it felt like a melting pot of all genres of Soquel life and the homeless people especially were great to talk to. Met some really interesting characters and it was definitely this bar that spurned my appreciation for this uniquely-American ‘dive bar’ concept. Being able to smoke at the bar and thumb one’s nose at the ‘powers that be’ was kind of amazing to this clueless Brit who is used to the fact that when the government says you can’t smoke in a bar, it really means you can’t smoke. So I finally got here a couple weeks ago, and maybe it was just because it was a quiet night, or the realisation that my favourite bartender no longer worked there, or the fact that smoking was now prohibited, but Sir Froggy’s seemed to have lost its ethereal image in my head and was no longer the bar I had been striving to return to. I want to give it another shot but my wife is reluctant to hold me up at the bar, don’t blame her really. It’s definitely a bar you go to to get smashed. For now, I’m giving it 3 stars until I can convince her to drive me there on a busier night!

Usually I am all for dive bars, but this place is NASTY. I live up the street from this eye sore, but have never been to it til tonight. After the Sharks game we decided to go and get a quick drink. Even before I have both feet in the door one of the bartenders screams«IDS, IDS I NEEDTOSEETHEM» at me. I get you need to show that you are over twenty one, but give me a minute lady. Next when my friend tried to order a drink she got ignored. Once we finally got to order, the bartender kept staring at me til I tipped. Look, I see you’re dressed like a stripper and are used to lots of tips, but sorry. Not giving you one for shitty service. All and all I really don’t like this place. If I want a stripper looking chick ignoring me and glaring til I tip her I will go somewhere that actually makes good drinks.

This place mixes elegant and dive perfectly without seeming like they’re trying to go for either. The oak burning in the fireplace adds a nice feel and fragrance. Bartenders seem real nice. A quieter alternative to JJ’s on a Friday evening.

I’m going to agree with Jaydog P. and say«You can get drunk here. That’s about it.» * Smoking is allowed. Kinda. * The regulars are enjoyable once you prove that you’re not there to judge. * People may or may not live in their cars in the parking lot. I’m not sure.

Luv froggy’s… its a «dive» bar at its best. Good strong drinks, cold beer, cheap pool, clean, friendly and a local’s fav!

You can get drunk here. That’s about it. Try not to look anyone in the eye. Last time I pulled in the back there was a couple slackjaws doing lines off of a cd case in the car next to me. I’m cool with that. It was pretty smokey inside, that’s fine too, I guess. Then I sat in my stool for about ten minutes drinkless until the hot chick(I think her name was Amber) decided to stop chatting with some crusty dude and serve me. The beer was cold, that’s good. I will keep coming back here because I can wobble home, eat their pretty tastey BBQ and smoke.

Not a favorite at all. A sketchy place to say the least. We ended up across the street to a family owned bar, and had the best time.

this is my favorite bar in the country. it has been there for me though all the highs and lows of life. best bartenders/therapists anywhere. doug is the best. nice and dark inside with a beautiful cherry oak bar. they serve up a good bud light here. visited by some of the finest soquel has to offer, except on thursday karaōke night, when it fills with silly college kids. electronic dart board and a honor system bookshelf. the kind of place bukowski would fall in love. people live in the parking lot in their rv’s and right next door is the soquel ave bridge where many patrons sleep. they even sent me peace lilies when I was in the hospital. man, i love this place.
