This place was much better quality under the previous management/name. The food is greasier, smaller portions(with more bread to make up for it on the tortas.) Still ok, but not quite as good at all.

After this place has changed its owner, the food is terrible. Really really bad. The burrito is very dry, stuffed with tasteless rice — I wouldn’t want to have a second bite. It’s sad that the old Tacos Lupita is no more.

I love burritos. I ate at Anna’s Taqueria almost every day first semester of freshman year, and have recently discovered Chipotle. I went to Tacos Lupita last summer. My burrito was well cooked although the ingredients weren’t as flavorful or rich as Anna’s. The price point is also great. Overall this is the kind of place I’m glad I tried but wouldn’t go out of my way to visit again.

I love this joint hidden behind Porter Square are of Cambridge. Taco’s Lupita is a quaint small restaurant that has just outstanding taco’s & pupusa’s. They as well serve many wonderful traditional, Mexican and Central American dishes like posole, and sopes. Price is super cheap, quick and delicious food.

I’m really disappointed. The new ownership means this is no longer the best authentic taco joint around. Picked up tacos for some friends last night and the chicken was dry and the tortillas fell apart. I also got a chips, salsa and guacamole and the bag of chips they gave me was a half bag of one of those small brown lunch bags. I asked about it and she said that is what they do now — really? If someone pays $ 4 for salsa and guac you should give them at least a full bag of chips! They seemed really confused and flustered, too. The woman running the register was kinda rude and there were dishes piled up in the sink you know how they always kept them washed it always caught my attention. I was actually mostly bummed not to see the kind woman behind the counter that used to work there. This is really a shame. I won’t go back. No stars if I could.

NOOOOOOO! Why did this place have to change ownership??? WHY??? I went today and it literally took 10 minutes before they took my order and then I waited 20 minutes for my food. While waiting for my food I went to the bathroom to wash my hands and saw huge piles of un-refrigerated meat lying on a table, gross! When I got my food the pupusa was burnt and too greasy. The food came on a plastic plate and the plastic utensils were too flimsy to cut into my burnt pupusa. I miss the real plates and forks… My chicken taco was ok, but there was no avocado in it like there used to be.

Thumbs up all around. A little off the Porter Square T stop, Tacos Lupita serves authentic Mexican food including tacos, soups, tortas, burritos and pupusas. One my recent visit, I ordered the combo taco plate which includes any 3 tacos, rice and beans. I ordered the tongue, carne asada and chorizo. I will say that all elements were among the top 3 of any tacos Ive tried. Ever. While this may place me as a noob, I was genuinely impressed by the soft consistency of the beans, the fluffy and moist rice, and each of the 3 meats had their own unique flavor and texture. The chorizo was easily the best chorizo I’ve ever had. The pieces of ground meat were large enough to hold by the fingers and the spiciness surprised me. The carne asada and tongue were both beefy and tender. Whenever I order carne asada in a taco it usually ends up drier than what I would expect. Tongue can sometimes come out a bit chewy, but there was no such problem at Tacos Lupita. To wash everything down, I got a Jarritos Lime flavored soda. According to wikipedia, they are made with sugar cane and are more carbonated than the average American soda. Yeah I can attest to the carbonated element as my first sip took me by surprise and I could feel my tear ducts putting themselves on standby. I highly recommend walking the extra 3 – 5 minutes past Anna’s Taqueria and giving Tacos Lupita a try.

Proceeded to finally check out Tacos Lupita after driving by it numerous times and spotting it’s pretty good reviews on Unilocal.I decided to go there on a whim, mostly because I needed to it something and didn’t have much time to sit down anywhere. This place seemed good, cheap and was on my drive back so it seemed perfect and after parking my car a half a block away from the place, I proceeded up the stairs and into the establishment. In my ways, I was hoping to see the maid from Showtime’s hit TV show«Weeds», Lupitas, behind the counter. After all, both share the same name but to my unfortunate discovery, she doesn’t work there. The two women behind the counter seemed to have been inspired by her character on the show though; they were rather rude but efficient. I proceeded to order three steak tacos to go and after paying what seemed like very little money(I think it was under $ 8), I waited for maybe a minute at most until I noticed a brown bag on the counter and the two women staring at me. I proceeded to grab it and rush home, in about five minutes, ready to devour them. The tacos were pretty good although the tortillas were soggy and ripped apart when I tried to pick them up. I ended up having to eat the stuffing with a fork as they all fell apart and actually didn’t eat the tortillas… The ingredients tasted very fresh and the flavor was great but the execution on their part was poor. It’s a shame really since they looked very appetizing, and were loaded with picco de gallo and cilantro. While the place is affordable, I’ll have to give it another shot in hopes that they can redeem themselves from such a ‘rookie mistake’. Maybe I’ll check out their tongue tacos or a torta.

Best carne asada burritos in the area. I thought Anna’s was pretty good, but this place is far better. The ladies have limited English, but you get by with simple statements like«2 burritos with cheese please. 1 — no beans.» Love their salsa verde. Hot and spicy. Cash only, but at 4.50-ish a burrito, it’s crazy cheap and crazy good.

Oh Tacos Lupita. I had such high hopes for you. I did get the taco combo platter($ 7.99) with two al pastor tacos and one carne asada. The homemade corn tortillas were good but got rather wet after being doused with the salsa verde provided. They definitely needed the sauce though, since the meat was rather bland. The rice and beans were good but nothing exceptional although the portions were generous(each taco was piled high with meat, tomatoes, onions, and cilantro). I actually preferred my bf’s carne asada torta because the flavors were better and it only cost $ 4.50! I think I’d try it again but I wasn’t impressed this time.

I don’t know what I’m eating, but I know that it’s amazing. This is my latest lunchtime discovery, and I am hooked. Their food is reasonably priced, comes in many varieties(with an emphasis on meat, not many veggie options) and comes in respectable portion sizes. The best part of the meal is by far the homemade corn tortilla. While you wait, they make it from scratch(well, from a ball of dough) and it is amazingly fresh and tasty. That being said, making things from scratch can take a while — call ahead if you’re in a rush. I’ve gotten there before to find out five guys in front of me ordered 12 dishes, which meant I was waiting for a looooong time. But it was still totally worth it.

I’VEFINALLYFOUNDIT! Since moving out here from the depths of So. Cal I’ve been on a never-ending quest to find some delicioso mexican food. My friends try to console me with«at least there’s always Chipotle», to which I reply«It’s owned by McDonald’s, and I’m gonna need some chipotl’away». Then there’s the«you should try Anna’s» crowd… reply: «umm they put cheese on the burrito like it’s a burger and aren’t you the least bit suspicious that you are naturally pronouncing the name Anne-ahs instead of Ahhn-nahs.» Fortunately, on my winding expedition of one-way roads home, I have found Lupita’s «salvadorian» restaurant. CLOSEENOUGH! I walked in with my texan buddy and it was like we just stepped into an Albertos/Philbertos/Bertos back home. The prices were cheap, the meat choices were in large print spanish, and the people eating and making the food were not 20 yr. white/asian kids. WOOOHOO! We both ordered the staple of all mexican joints, a carne asada burrito. No white rice, check. lots of meat, check. sour cream without asking, check spicy stuff, check. burrito didn’t fall apart/cause burrito leakage all over everything. CHECK! honestly, I couldn’t tell you what constitutes as «salvadorian» food, but the menu is strangely familiar. We did notice that one of the hot sauces had a hint of cinnamon… maybe that’s the distinction :-p Anyway, stop supporting those overpriced, disneyfied«mexican» places and try out Lupita’s. oh… and make sure to grab a mandarin Jarritos to complete the experience.

Tacos Lupita is one of my staple«Hispanish» food vendors in Somerville. Granted I’m born and raised in MA for 28 years, so who knows that quality of my palate in this area, but their food is damn solid and cheap. My only regret here was eating the tongue taco. Call me closed minded, but I don’t like my food being able to lick me back. Otherwise I haven’t found a bad meal on the menu! Viva Lupita!

YES!!! Tacos Lupita is IT! I’m a small-town Midwestern boy who moved to a vaguely hipsterish neighborhood on the east coast so that I can take my friends from back home down Elm Street and hear them remark, «You have a Chipotle, cool!» Then we walk past Anna’s Taqueria and they remark, «Whoa, that place looks super authentic!» And then I can say, in the most smug tone I can muster, «Yeah, Chipotle sucks and Anna’s is overrated, but if you want REALLY amazing Mexica… I mean El Salvadorian food, we need to go to Tacos Lupita.» Seriously though: everything just aligns at Tacos Lupita. It’s cool cubed. The food is DIRTCHEAP. They feature really amazing proteins like COWTONGUE. They sell Mexican Coke made with REALCANESUGAR. There ingredients are KILLERFRESH, and also AUTHENTIC(or so I’m told). The dining room is SMALL, NOT especially COMFORTABLE, and feels vaguely like a HIGHWAYRESTSTOP. Those are the reasons it’s cool, and they’ll hold your interest during your first five visits to Tacos Lupita. What justifies visits five through fifty? Simple: the food is just plain good. They offer a great variety of chicken, beef, and pork products, but not so many that it’s overwhelming. I agree with people who wish they’d branch out a bit more… I’d love some pork skin tacos, for instance. But that’s not a big deal. The ingredients and flavors are just amazing. The vegetables and sauces always taste incredible; the tortillas are easily the best in Somerville. And the portions are huge. Try to avoid the meal combos and just order entrees and sides individually… in my experience, that dramatically increases the precious carbs-to-dollar ratio. Any complaints are really beside the point. Anyone craving quick, delicious Mexican or Central American in Somerville, this is it, Tacos Lupita, seriously folks.

I’d heard for years about this place and was finally in the neighborhood so stopped in for lunch. Meh. I got tacos carnitas — my favorite. Better done at both Phillipe’s and Olecito. The food at Tacos Lupita isn’t bad but it’s certainly nothing to get excited about. Given my long anticipation of deliciousness, I was disappointed.

I once took a vegetarian friend to Tacos Lupita and that was a mistake. Fortunately, it is the only mistake to be made when it comes to this hole-in-the wall tacqueria with excellent food. The staff is friendly and the décor is sparse, and in some ways I think it’s to highlight the food. That’s probably wishful thinking; the reality is that with such low prices, Tacos Lupita probably can’t afford any decoration. And that’s a good thing because it’s all about the food. I was an early Chipotle convert and I’m always in the mood for a burrito from Anna’s. But when I really want to get something special, I go to Tacos. Part of its charm is the sense that no one else seems to know about the place(although, based on the 170 reviews on Unilocal that’s patently false). The Al Pastor is fantastic and it’s a nice place to sit an have a quiet meal on the cheap while you’re waiting for the paycheck to get deposited.

Torta al pastor! Yum yum yum! I’m not usually a huge fan of most Latin American food, but the torta al pastor was delicious! Thanks, Esther W. and Jonathan H., for your recommendations. I love that this place is a 5-minute walk from the Porter Sq. T-stop and that it’s so cheap and delicious! The torta has a buttered bun(the bread is so perfectly chewy and soft), avocado, mayo, lettuce, jalapenos, and maybe some other goodies that I don’t remember. But it was delicious — every bite! I highly, highly recommend it.

Holy asada I love this place. I was hesitant to walk to Tacos Lupita, a ten minute walk from the Porter T stop, because of the thunderstorm looming overhead. But, my friends were hankering for some Mexican and I refused to go to Anna’s or Qdoba with the knowledge that this authentic and potential gem was only a few extra minutes away. FOOD WOW. Clearly, this place is a well respected taqueria. Today all ten tables were loaded with patrons. My jaw dropped as I scanned the menu over the ordering counter, $ 2.50 per taco, gorditas at $ 3.50, huaraches at $ 4.50, mulitas, tortas, burritos, and quesadillas. HOLYCOW(and pigs, chickens, and beans). Carne Asada(steak), Al Pastor(pork), Lengua de res(tongue!), Pollo, and Chorizo. I was hungry, so I ordered the Combo Tacos, three(but really six because they stuff two layers of corn tortillas with each filling choice) tacos, rice, and beans, a lime, and a tomatillo sauce side: Carne Asada, Pollo, and Al Pastor. This was a winning order as well a mistake. WINNER because it was frigin awesome — meats were shaved from a grill spit and mixed with a salsa fresca, the corn tortillas rocked my world and I happily spilled everything possible on my hands. MISTAKE because I ate everything and then some leftovers off a friend’s plate. My Jarrito soda washed everything down, but I left like a stuffed pig. Sadly, the guacamole with the chips didn’t appear fresh, but the tacos stomped anything negative about the guac.

Since it’s Massachusetts, I’m totally allowed to marry Lupita. Oh, Lupita. How you bless the Boston area with delicious carne asada tortas and tasty al pastor huaraches! How long have I wandered from one taqueria to another, tears streaming down my face from all the tasteless Mexican food! But you, you have saved me from the Boloco’s and the Boca Grandes and even the Anna’s of the world. Thank you for bringing decent Latin food back into this California girl’s life.
