It’s a toss up between a 3 and a 4(an average and an I really like it). Let’s give them the benefit of the doubt! I’ve only been one time. The line out the door and the pretty bueno ratings on Unilocal!pushed me in. The service was good. It was attentive and helpful. The price is right on par with most taco shops in the north east(about $ 7 per burrito). The food was pretty good. I had the vegetarian burrito and it was fresh and tasty. The ingredients didn’t all run together, like some other places. You could really taste the individual ingredients. My only gripe with the food was that the refried beans had lard in ‘em. I had to switch them out for black beans. If you’ve read any of my other reviews, you know I always comment on the portion size. I’m a big eater, so that always plays a part on my ratings… The burrito was decent. It wasn’t big, it wasn’t small but they gave you some complimentary chips and salsa which made it a little better. They give you an option between a small or large burrito; my girlfriend had the small, I had the large. there wasn’t much difference in burrito size, but it’s still like a $ 1.50 difference. If I do it all over again, I’ll grab a small and save the extra pocket change!

Gotta love tiny hole-in-the-wall type places! It’s fast, budget friendly, and delicious. Seating is super limited but it’s fine if you just want to chow down real quick. The tacos are only $ 2 each so if you want to try one(or two or ten) of each filling, go for it! The more tacos, the merrier. The burritos are also pretty good! I get it in a small and it’s plenty. They don’t skimp out on the filling. It also comes with a side of chips and salsa at no extra cost. Also, you can find a bunch of different hot sauce bottles on the counters. Try them!

Man, being a California, this place hit the spot!!! The tamales were amazing! The tacos bomb and cheap, lengua taco had me drooling and to top it off they make some badass pupusas! I’m so happy I found TACOLOCO!

This place is one of the only joints in the Boston area to get solid, simple tacos and quesadillas. The restaurant is focused on a few types of meat tacos, but the veggie tacos are solid, and what I always go for. They also make some odd their own juices and have some bocadillos that are great. In a nutshell, this is where I go for my favorite tacos in Somerville, and one of the best in the area!

I love this place. It is super close to my apartment so I walk there on occasion. Their food is so good and the prices are great too! $ 2 for a taco, yes please! I usually get the chicken tacos. The chicken has some sauce on it that gives t a small amount of heat, but nothing overwhelming. I do wish that they had some chicken without the sauce on it for people who aren’t a fan of that. But I don’t mind! It is so yummy! Everything is cooked to order in front of you. They have some indoor seating with a small«downstairs» area for extra seating. But that is a small area. Overall I really enjoy this little place. The staff is always friendly and the food is always good! I absolutely recommend this place to people who ask.

A small little place to get tacos and quesadillas in the middle of the night. I came here with a group of 8 people and there was no place to sit, so we got everything to go. That being said. When we got back in 5 minutes, the nachos were already super soggy and no one ate it(so I knocked off a star). Other than that, it’s fast and the food here is really good for the price! But I will come here again if I’m in the area looking for cheap Mexican food. And I haven’t tried the fried chicken. That should change.

My favorite lunch place for taco, burritos, and more. This place is better than Chipotle and other taco place around. Any place with mixed burrito is the best and with chips and salsa. For lunch, under $ 10, can’t beat it. Their Fried Chicken is also good. Will be back soon for a burrito.

Rating Taco Loco is hard for me. It’s not extremely fresh, there’s very little seating(and the seating is cramped), and often the restaurant is jam-packed with people. But I *always* love the food. My fiancé and I split an order of steak nachos and an order of plantains with sour cream at least once a week. The other food I’ve had is great as well, but the steak nachos(with«everything», like sour cream, pico de gallo, cheese, onions, etc.) is consistently great. Also, the price is awesome, and so are the women who work there. They’re almost always perfect at being efficient and understanding, especially given the variety of ways people order(I’ve seen people order complex things, and other people point and grunt, and others who don’t know how to pronounce anything correctly — no judgement on anyone here, just that the people who work here are consistently on top of it!).

Most of my friends love this place. I just can’t seem to know why? Maybe its that they are plain lazy to cook or cannot cook at all. Hot food been sitting there all day! On the warmer till the locals getting off the orange line arrives. Then soon this tiny little place get packed like a bunch of Mexican, in a two door coupe. The line is bit over whelming, even making orders is bit aggressive. The ladies seems nice. But the way they run the front end leaves my heart wrenching. Maybe they will get my order wrong. It’s bit confusing because most orders are similar, so you will think it’s yours they start adding the gross toppings. I ordered two steak&chicken fajitas = 3 Steak nachos =1 soggy nachos and stale hard steak bits, that was the first order I seen them prepared then sat on the counter for 20 minutes till the fajita was prepared. Two steak tacos= 8 the most I liked but I wish it wasn’t on corn tortillas. I was hoping in a hard shell. My friend loves this place and I can’t stress it enough that she have a bad reputation when it comes to food. Lol

Stopped in late night for chicken tacos, we usually go to Tapatio but decided to give this spot a go. Although it was late the food was fresh and chicken was moist and flavorful I appreciated that the tacos were not over topped with cream, cheese, etc. it was a great experience and downstairs seating area is small but cozy.

This place rocks. I feel like the burritos here are catered towards a western palette(by thhat I mean white european descent) because they are the size of your head and grilled on the outside and sometimes stuffed with guac, but they are still good and fresh and packed with flavor. This is a great place to get burritos and tacos in the Somerville area.

After reading all the great reviews I had to try it. I was very interested with the comparisons to the West Coast. Even when I read«best in Boston» and knew it was located in Somerville, which is not Boston, I went anyway. What a regret. I order 2 steak tacos and 2 adobado tacos. Plain over cooked meat and the toppings could not save them. In a word it sucked. My wife ordered the adobado burrito and said«it was good until I got to the meat». The meat should be the best part. This was supposed the best Mexican place in New England?!? The search continues… There are other places close by that are worth the experience.

If you’re looking for tacos on the cheap, this place satisfies. However, I wouldn’t say they are the best quality or have the tastiest meat. We sampled the beef tongue, roast pork, and vegetarian. While the vegetarian was pretty good and included broccoli, the flavor the vegetables was a bit overwhelmed by large slices of onions and too much sour cream. The beef tongue was tender but under seasoned and the pork was better seasoned but dry. As for the taco shells, they did not taste homemade. If they were, they were definitely on the dry side. Redeeming features include the fact that things are made fresh and there’s quite a selection of «plate» items including roast chicken, pupusas, and soups.

Enjoy looking at all of the awards on the wall while you wait for your food. We got the chicharones($ 6), steak burrito(~$ 7), and one each chicken and adobada taco($ 2 each) — as per other reviewers’ recommendations. I left a very happy girl. I will *definitely* be coming back for more adobada! I was a little bit unsure about posting a review because I don’t want it to become super popular(selfish), but I think the secret it out.

Freak YEAH. As a former resident of Southern California and South Texas, I consider myself pretty knowledgeable when it comes to a good taco. These are fresh and delicious– at the moment, the combination of fresh cilantro, lime juice, and spicy cheese is clearing out my sinuses nicely, and my husband is wolfing down his large chicken burrito with everything. Get the tacos. Space is a little tight inside, so get your deliciousness to go, and enjoy! Can’t wait til my next taco craving.

Awesome tacos, very fresh and tasty ingredients. I think they are better than some other local places and they are very quick and nice. We will be coming back again for sure. We got the Taco Combo, a cheese pupusa, buñuelos, and some platanos.

Before I moved I would come here every day for lunch. And each and every time the food was always cooked well. I would always get the rice, beans, chicken and plantains and it always was delicious. The horchata is BOMB.COM! You must try it I promise you won’t regret it. They always have fresh food on display. The workers there are always friendly, quick and attentive. The restaurant itself is always clean and tidy. The prices are very reasonable. Not too cheap and not too expensive. I’d spend roughly $ 10 on a plate and drink. The only thing that sucks is the parking. They have a small 5 space parking lot beside the restaurant. Otherwise there are metered parking spots nearby. I would definitely recommend that you come here and try it out!

Really yummy authentic Mexican food(or as authentic as it gets in Boston). I had a chicken burrito and some kind of fried corn meal. Both were amazing. A free side of chips and(really) spicy salsa. I also had a bite of my friend’s banana bread pudding, which I don’t recommend due to the sponge like texture. Not a sit down restaurant despite the amount of seating, really more like a café. The atmosphere is dingy and dark but very comfortable. Prices are cheaper than any other Mexican restaurant I’ve ever been to, which is nice considering the high quality my burrito was. Don’t know when, but I definitely see myself coming back here. There are too many things I feel I still need to try. One complaint though is that the woman working gave us our food and just told us to pay later, which was strange, but then later when we finished there was a big line so we had to wait to pay to leave. We probably could have left fifteen minutes earlier if we had just been allowed to pay when we got our food.

Great prices and portions for some yummy flavorful Mexican food. Takes me back to the mexican food in California. This is the place where all the locals hit up for the goods. They sell tacos, burritos, quesadillas, plates, tamales, enchiladas, tortas and other sides. Tacos are $ 2 and small burritos are $ 6.50 each. Large burrito is just an extra $ 1, but the small is already huge! I got the small and I was stuffed! I got the Abobada burrito which was very flavorful and delicious. I didn’t know what that meat was, but I looked it up. It’s marinated pork in red chili sauce. Very glad I got it, so tasty :] The giant burrito was packed with beans, hot sauce, cheese, pico de gallo, sour cream and guac. A burrito that comes with guac without any additional costs?!? That is unheard of. What made the burrito taste even better was that after they stuffed the burrito, it was put back on the grill so the tortilla had a crunch to it. Nice touch taco loco. The burrito also came with some chips and mild salsa. The chips were fresh and very yumm. mm Nice and crispy with just the perfect amount of saltyness.

One of the best small Mexican fast food places. Do yourself a favor and skip chipotle for a local place like this. Steak burrito was one of the best I have ever eaten, and chicken tacos were tender and flavorsome. Price is low for high quality, great value all around. Nachos were great also, with plenty left over for afternoon snacking back home…

Really couldn’t tell the difference between a large and small burrito since me and my friend ordered different sizes and it looked the same. Steak burrito wasn’t bad! A lot of fixings inside but okay. Steak taco and chicken taco wasn’t bad too. For $ 2 it was not bad with all the toppings in it.(Not the biggest fan of sour cream and cheese but still ate it cause I was hungry) Would come back if I was back in the area!

SOGOOD. This hole-in-the-wall has amazing authentic Mexican food. Went as a party of 4 and everyone was impressed and more than satisfied with the food which included taco salads, burritos and fried plantains. Everything was fresh and delicious. We were still talking about how tender the chicken was the next day. The«small» burrito is the size of what you’d normally expect at Chipotle — can’t imagine how big the«large» would be! The other patrons definitely seemed like locals/regulars — I’d be one too if I lived in Boston!

This was very tough to rate based on the overall experience of others. I had high expectations when I chose Taco Loco for last night’s dinner. As I have been forewarned, be sure to know exactly what you want upon ordering. I studied the menu well in advance to order exactly what I hoped for. The issue was the manner and assertiveness from the cashier. I had expected to pay when we ordered but, so rudely stood in the way for the next person ordering. Her exact words were, «Can you move?». So, I find her assertion to be bitter and not something I would expect from a 4.5 star place. I had tried the chicken, beef and tongue. Tongue to be daring. I couldn’t quite distinguish the difference between the beef and chicken. And, aside from that the toppings were switched from mine and my husband’s. Communication barrier, indeed. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the tongue. I fully endorse getting the tongue, probably wherever you go. Very tender and flaky. I wish I just ordered all three tongue tacos instead. The sides were rice and beans. I wished that I knew that I could have gotten plantains instead. It could very well have changed my opinion. I ignored the beans and I was told they were very salty. And, the rice itself was bland. Please don’t be fooled by presentation. If only I had a better experience, I would consider coming back for the $ 2 tacos. But, even that won’t get me back and I think Taco Loco will be easily forgotten. No mas.

Find parking — not easy to do in east Somerville. Enter the non descript, tiny building and check out the days specials — what’s in the glass warming case. Might be fried chicken. Roasted chicken. Pork adobo. Fish. Depends on the day. When you’re asked, be ready to order. Tacos($ 2) are sublime. Fresh griddled corn tortillas, layered two deep, surround an impeccably seasoned filling — in this case, steak, adobada, chicken. The tortillas are ladled onto the grill one at a time. They are grilled until soft but crisp on the exterior. These tortillas are thick and supple. An almost gritty texture. Thick, soft, crispy. The fillings — chicken — large tender chunks. Steak — medium rare slices. Pork — heavily seasoned and tender pieces. Each dripping with fat. Topped with onion, sour cream, avocado, shredded cheese. These are some tasty morsels. Order two to three. Find a seat. The menu has burritos and rice plates. Chicken soup. Go hungry leave not so much.
