Chomp Burgers, Fries, and Shakes

After being burned by all our Solvang «fancy» restaurant choices, we were looking for something simple — enter Chomp Burgers
Was it kiddie haven? Yes. The place is designed with large tables and booths that accommodate all kinds of screaming meanies… and there were plenty to be found but the gracious & patient waitstaff had it all under control
Homemade veggie burgers — red peppers, panko, eggplant, cheddar cheese, chopped onion & lime sauce. I’ve never had eggplant as a base for a veggie burger & while I’m usually not an eggplant fan, these patties were decent. Burger held its form but they were ginormous so we opted for knives & forks
Added some extra cheddar cheese — the cheese was mixed in the patty & we were hoping for melted cheese on top — so that’s what we got.
Added some fries — not homemade but whatever b/​c they were fried up perfectly & we happily polished off our extra order
So while Chomp wasn’t the best burger we’ve ever had, it was the best dinner we had in Solvang & that has to make us fans

Date: January 31, 2016. Hasn’t changed, except «maybe» the ‘Black & Blue Burger’ looked good, and that’s it. My ‘Fish & Chips’, were pre-​frozen, bland and a smallish portion for $ 10.25. The ‘Asian Chicken Salad’ looked horrible and was VERY below average, it looked like all the products were pre-​frozen, lettuce was basic, cheap Iceburg. The only really good item was the french fries, which have been very good since the beginning.
The hostess was nice, the server was nice, but service was basically poor, nobody checked back to make sure everything was okay. All the staff I’d «guess» were under 20 years old, and in fact, I never saw an ‘adult’ employee/​manager.
Also, the silverware was not dirty, it was filthy. It didn’t look like it was washed properly but ALL the knives on the table were covered with fingerprints… Yes… Covered. This is a ‘only when you’re desperate and can’t find any place for the kids’ type of place.
