Simple Twist

My husband and I ate here while we were overnighting in Selma on a trip. Unilocal reviews helped me pick this place and it was fantastic! The décor was a mix of casual classic diner/​café meets rock n roll. Our server was very nice and gave honest opinions on menu items. We started our meal with the friend green tomatoes and I can honestly say they were the best I’ve ever had. My husband chose the short ribs for his entrée. I had read so many great reviews about the tacos but when I ordered I was told they were out of shrimp. I chose the veggie sandwich with fries instead. Both of our meals were spectacular. We literally had zero complaints about the food, the service or the atmosphere. We enjoyed several local beers on tap at decent prices and even had a slice of mixed berry pie to finish our meal. We will absolutely be going here again when we pass through Smithfield. If you’re anywhere close it is definitely worth stopping in.

Very good food. I had the Peace, Love, and Veggie sandwich which was very good. My husband had the Jerk Chicken sandwich which was also very good. My daughter had the kids’ meal chicken tenders and I was very happy it was actual grilled pieces of chicken instead of the battered and fried. Nothing amazing about the place but definitely yummy food that tastes like real food for a good price.

Quick and friendly service. The Street Tacos were the perfect size for lunch. I had mine with fried shrimp. The shrimp were a good size and cooked well. Crisp but still tender. Tacos were not over stuffed with extra veggies. The green salsa on top had just the right amount of tang. If you are in Smithfield this is a great place!

Lovely little place in downtown Smithfield. Fried green tomatoes were fantastic. The food truck tacos with fried shrimp were delicious (we were hoping for fish tacos like they serve in Garner, but they don’t have them). The Clayton made beer was a good recommendation for my husband and my cosmo was made perfectly. My only recommendation to the resturant is to bring back the calamari that was served at terafin… it was my favorite with the bananna peppers.

Bright new gem in Smithfield! Foodies fresh, creative and delicious! They have the best guacamole I’ve ever eaten. The only drawback is the limited seating.

Pleasantly surprise finding this gem of a restaurant in downtown Smithfield. After a full day of shopping and being famished, we thoroughly enjoyed the spicy shrimp small plate, the roast beef sandwich and the wrappers delight wrap. Jason, our server, was awesome at recommending delicious fares to try. Each dish was perfectly flavored and we enjoyed the atmosphere at Simply Twisted Café. It is definitely a hidden gem and I highly recommend it.

We stopped after looking for a local non-​chain lunch spot off of 95. We could not have been happier we gave them a try. Excellent food!

Six travelers returning from a week in Myrtle Beach, 4 to Va and 2 traveling to Massachusetts found Simple Twist on a Unilocal search. The place looks great from the outside and once you walk in the door you find it is great. Jason our waiter was very nice and did a great job getting all of the drinks and food out with a friendly demeanor. When he first said «I hate Yankees» I was concerned… Until I realized I was wearing. Boston Red Sox shirt and we were kindred spirits in our hatred for MLB Yankees not people from the North .
I had the Jerk sandwich and it was amazing. I highly recommend it. The Twisted burger was also really good. The local beers were very nice. I did not find anything that would not have me highly recommending this spot. It is Simply Great… No twist.

Dinner was Simply yummy. Atmosphere and music outside makes you want to linger over dinner. Good selection of beer and wine. I had no idea they had specials during then week. Can’t wait to come back and give them a go. Shrimp and grits were great. I would definitely order again. Bob had the little birds entrée. It was really good and the germs were cooked to perfection. Not dead and not raw. The flavor was really good. We’ll be back.

Nice menu selection. Unilocal reviews helped us decide to go here. We were not let down. My impression was it’s kind of a hybrid of hipster and upscale food varieties. We sat at the bar and the bartender was the young friendly type. When our food came out it was prepared perfectly and had some pretty good flavor. We both had lunch for just under $ 30.
I would like to stop here again and try some more menu items if I’m ever in Smithfield again.

I feel so lucky to have stumbled on this jewel of a café!!! Great staff, great décor and ambience, clean, comfy and great outdoor patio for enjoying beautiful weather like today. Oh and they play GREAT music (red hot chili peppers on now). My ultimate favorite thing thus far is their AMAZING GREENS (best I’ve ever had) and for us porkless folks, they’re made with chicken stock, no swine ;-) so much flavor and the shrimp street tacos are scrumptious!!! Kudos !!!

I’m really glad that Smithfield finally has a place with such a great selection like this! This Simple Twist takes a modern spin on traditional cuisines. They also appear to have a great drink selection as well.
The food was heavenly. To start, we got the Fried Green Tomatoes. For anyone debating on what to get for an appetizer, quit debating. They’ve already decided for you. I’m a huge fan of the classic fgt, and I can honestly say that this is one of the best takes on this classic dish that I’ve had to date. They also have a great selection of burgers and sandwiches as well. I got The Jerk, and the seasonings they used on the meat were phenomenal. The fries it came with were also very well crafted. They were served topped with (what I believe to be) sea salt and cracked pepper.
My biggest complaint is the service time. Service quality here is great, but it took forever to be seated, get our food, etc. The waitress was really apologetic, but we were still on a time crunch and couldn’t sit around waiting. Amazing place though, and definitely worth it!

I can’t imagine a restaurant with these selections is in Smithfield. Their application is nearly flawless. My only gripe would be lunch waits are a tad lengthy. The cheesecake is airy and refreshing. Don’t worry about it knocking you out after lunch. Enjoy!

Just recently found the Smithfield STwist. Great food and service. We had been going to the Garner location but this is much closer. Same fantastic food and a bit larger.

Food was great and the staff was very friendly. Started with Fried Green Tomatoes with a great «twist» corny but true. And then got a Stella Blue burger. All in all it was fantastic.

I’ve gone here multiple times for lunch. Friendly staff, great food and awesome local craft beer. I would totally recommend this restaurant.

Hidden gem in downtown Smithfield! Local beer, fresh ingredients, awesome service! I had the Twist Burger and the Hubs had the fried bologna sandwich w/​an egg on it. Both were great! The Fancy Fries are a great starter. We will definitely be back!

Went for the first today for lunch. From the time we walked in the front door I was impressed. Very clean, staff was super friendly and the food was great! Fairly priced also for what you get.
I got the devil fries, which is fresh pork rinds with a hot and spicey powdered coating. They were awesome!
I got the Mexicali Bowl and it was super fresh and hot. The rest of the family got hamburgers (which they have a huge selection).
For this being a local downtown spot in a great location I feel they will do well. It will get crowded quickly around the lunch hours but other than that they are quick to serve and get the food out to you quickly
We will definitely be return customers!

Awesome. Lobster and shrimp mac and cheese was excellent as well as the twisted burger. Definitely will be back!

I had a great dinner tonight at Simple Twist! I ordered the food truck tacos with shrimp, which were perfectly cooked. I tried a bite of my mother’s Twisted Cheeseburger, which was delicious. Everything tasted very fresh, and we each decided that we wanted to try many other things on the menu. The service was very good, and we got our food quickly. I’m glad to have Simple Twist in Downtown Smithfield!
