Was excited to try this place after hearing all the hype. I was not impressed. Cute décor. The booths have the most uncomfortable benches. The burger was chewy and greasy. A basic burger. I want to call it the basic bitch burger. So basic. Even boring. To be fair, my husband said it was a really good burger. Compared to Epic or That burger it just doesn’t compare. The choice of toppings are small. The shack sauce was like a smoky mayo. The fries are crinkle fries that seem to be a White Castle copy. About $ 23 for two burgers, fries and a drink. I will try the shake. Maybe that will redeem this place. Go to Epic Burger instead.

Taste great, but too much. Maybe my selection wasn’t really great. I had Shake burger, cheese fries, and vanilla shake. I liked that I could choose either single or double for burger. Cheese fries and vanilla shake were very good, but I felt like it was too much as keep eating and drinking. Maybe I prefer dried salty fries. Store was clean and nice. No problem with service.

Their burgers are very good, very small and very pricey. :) I think the only think this place stands out from other chains is the quality of their food. Even there I’d prefer Chipotle(despite the latest news). I don’t see point in going back.

This place is good– for what it is. What is it? It’s a fast casual burger chain offering fresh and quality food in a manner quicker than a sit down restaurant. I understand that most people reasonably gripe at the expensive prices of this place. It is just shy of $ 20 if you want to pull out all the stops with a double burger, cheese fries, and a milk shake(thats why they call me bus stop Mark). But it’s damn good food. The burger is delicious. I get the original double burger, I’ve also tried the smoke shack which I don’t think is as good. The cheese fries are legit. I’ve been here about 4 times, only once I found the cheese amount to not be adequate. The cheese is very tasty. It’s not a thick cheddar like Merkts, more of a milder taste that’s a bit less solid in texture. The milkshake was good and thick with lots of flavors to choose from. Even at it’s busiest(and it does get busy) the wait times for food are good. Sometimes the food line can get quite long at peak times though. My word of caution is that sometimes seating can be hard to come by. There is not a lot of seating to begin with and, again, at peak hours finding an open table can be a doozy. This can be exacerbated by people lingering(lingerers man). Bottom line– if you’re looking for a quality casual dinner place, this is it. If you want a family sit down restaurant, or an inexpensive meal, dont come here. But this place definitely fits a niche and does it quite well.

Yum. Great food, great customer service. Thomas took our order, and was great at giving us tips and suggestions in experiencing the menu. Soo hows the food? Delicious! We ordered a single burger, double burger, and chick n’ shack, and cheese fries. The burgers were rich with taste, you can taste the freshness of the meat. The fried chicken burger(Chick n shack) had great flavor, the batter they used to coat the chicken is well seasoned and had a nice balance of herb amd salt. When I cut the chicken sandwich in half, It was properly cooked… extremely juicy and moist. The cheese fries are a good compliments to any burger(or hot dog). There cheese sauce is perfect and authentic, taste how cheese sauce is supposed to taste like …none of that can cheese sauce with yellow 9 dye. lol Overall, great experience from food to atmosphere to customer service. Will definitely comeback.

I love how I can go to Old Orchard not only to shop but to go on a Shake Shake spree. We’ve been here before, but this time I came here specifically to try out the new Chick’n Shack. Thought we’d have better luck at this location than the one downtown. We went on a Sunday around 1115am so there were plenty of seats to choose from prior to the lunch rush. Like the downtown location, seats came be hard to come by when it’s crowded. I like how there is a designated space for strollers to keep them out of the aisles between booths here… and a spacious bathroom with a changing table in the common area. The Chick’n Shack lived up to the hype! Crispy battered skin and juicy chicken. All the goodness of a fried chicken sandwich without the hate, like at Chick-Fil-A. Hubby and I split an order of fries and also tried out one of the concretes(Crunch-stellation) for the first time. It was decadent and amazing. The vanilla custard is so rich and delicious. The staff were all friendly; there was one employee who would periodically make the rounds and ask if we needed anything and took away finished trays. Definitely helpful as you’re layering up to go back out into the cold, packing up the diaper bag, and getting the stroller ready.

Great place for a greasy burger with amazing milk shakes but not as good as in and out burger. Good enough for SKOKIE. :) Great place for kids too-small hamburgers that melt in your mouth. Fries are excellent as well. I tried the veggie(mushroom cheese) burger and it was also amazing. The melted cheese inside the mushroom is a pleasant surprise. This place gets PACKED on the weekend-which is a good sign.

Not much I need to say, but this fit the hunger fang I had after successful boot shopping at Old Orchard last week. The Chicken Shack sandwich was really good and moist, and surprisingly blew me away with how good it was. The shake was pretty good(cheers for chocolate banana being flavor of the day), as well. I recall not liking their fries in the past when I ordered them at the River North location, and I personally wish Shake Shack would serve onion rings(lone advantage Johnny Rockets has). And of course you can both order beer(didn’t do it that day, but it is on my beer wish list to eventually try Shackmeister Ale) or utilize the express C-Line for only ordering custard, shakes, or drinks, like at any other Shake Shack. It’s not as busy as the one I once went to in NYC west of Times Square or the Chicago one in River North across from Eataly, which was nice. Hadn’t yet been to the one on Michigan Ave. in the Athletic Association building, so dunno how that location compares yet. I’d pick this over going to Johnny Rockets(blargh, never want to think about my bad experience at Old Orchard one ever again) or Epic Burger for sure, if you’re debating between a semi-cheap burger place(and isn’t BW3 or Cheesecake Factory) to eat at and stay within Old Orchard. Though I won’t deny I like Poochie’s(also within Skokie on Dempster, a little east of Crawford/Pulaski) and Edzo’s(in Evanston) more, as far as fast food burgers go. Finally, its location within Old Orchard is a little south of the office building and immediately north of the north entrance into Macy’s(née Marshall Field’s), and west of the fountain. And inbetween West Elm and Talbots. If you’re still confused, here’s the interactive mall map from Westfield’s site you can consult:

Theeee best chicken sandwich I have EVER had was the Chicken Shack with cheese, and fries, at Shake Shack. I dunno, maybe I caught them on a perfect night or maybe this is always how good it is — but the chicken was fried perfectly! Crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The buttermilk herb mayo is just so perfect with the chicken. The pickles aren’t fully pickled, instead you can still taste the mildness of the cucumber and it had the perfect crunch, fresh taste, with a bit of the sour but not overpowering. The fries were the same crunchy goodness that I love with softness inside — perfection… I’ve had the burger here before and could take it or leave it, and the shakes are ok — but that chicken sandwich has made me a complete fan.

I came here since my friend and I were at old orchard and I was starving, it was raining pretty heavy so I didn’t feel like heading elsewhere to eat. We were lucky to beat the dinner rush and we got there around 545 pm, shortly after we paid a while bunch of ppl got in line after us. I regret not trying the shakes here, because everyone had a shake and they looked so good and creamy. I ended up ordering the shroom burger, and my friend had the regular burger with the fries. The burgers here are priced a bit higher than in n out and other burger chains. The portions are also smaller, I think the party was a ¼ lb patty. My burger came out pretty quickly, it was tasty hot and fresh. I didn’t have much hope for the fries but the fries are the reason why they are getting 4 stars instead of 3. The fries here are tasy. Crunchy, but not too salty !! Next time I will come back and definitely order a shake !!

Just a couple of days ago we went to our first Shake Shack in NYC. Hubby thought that he would try the newly released chicken sandwich instead of the famous burger. Well after trying a bite of mine he was sad that he didn’t get the burger. So even though we just had Shake Shack a couple of days ago hubby insisted that we get Shake Shack again today for lunch! It was an early lunch and happily unlike the long line and wait we experienced in NYC there was no wait and the food arrived in lightening speed. The single shake burger with everything was excellent, as was our vanilla malted shakes. Really though this should only be a once a year thing for me. It’s only the middle of January and I have already blown it for this year and next!

Love this place! My second favorite burger joint! Epic is still my number one but I really do love this place! My recommendations are definitely the shroom burger, cheese fries, and my favorite the black and white shake! Yum amazing! I’ve had the regular burgers(really delicious) before but it turns out there not halal if you only eat halal. In terms of location I like it a lot. It’s nice not to have to go to downtown to get my fix! I’ve been to both locations in downtown and I prefer this location being in Skokie! It’s not too crazy busy during the week here as well. The service is good and there’s plenty of seating for the most part. In terms of pricing it’s ok a little more expensive then ur average burger joint but it’s delicious!

Yeah, it’s okay, but I expected more from a franchise that has had so much hype about it when it first came to Chicago. It’s convenient and only minutes from the house. The burger was good, I ordered the Shake Stack with grilled mushrooms, burger and cheese, but it was so tiny for $ 9.59! And the fries are nothing to write home about. They are crinkle cut, not home cut fries and a small tray costs $ 2.99 so I have to give it 3 stars because I think I can get a better burger at Meatheads or Moolahs in Glenview and the fries are much better at the latter places. Even Edzo’s is comparable to this place at the mall.

I’ve had Shakeburgers in Philly and NYC. I’ve never seen so many teenage girls sitting and not eating as I did tonight at the Old Orchard location. Seriously, 7 girls and their Tory Burch wristlets taking up the 10-top. I can only imagine how crazy it would be to find seating during a busier time. Aside from the ambiance, the burgers, fries and shakes were great — appropriately greasy, medium well. The fries were perfect. The shakes were enjoyed by the non-lactose intolerant ppl in my group. And the tables made it repurposed bowling lanes are always fun since I am married to a bowling league bowler. I wouldn’t seek this place out, but we were headed into the city. This was a perfect spot to introduce Shake Shack to the three in the family who have not yet experienced the burgers. For those familiar with Steak n Shake, this place has better burgers and richer shakes made with custard instead of ice cream. The burgers are similar, but I prefer Shake Shack. That said, I really wish In and Out would come to the Midwest. Until then, the Shack it is.

Think back. It’s 2014 and there’s talk of a mystical NYC burger joint coming to Chicago. There were articles in the Tribune, #shackago trending everywhere, and your friends were preparing their camping chairs for a line around the block as the great Danny Meyer brought his humble farm-to-counter joint to the windy city. It was like the dawn of a certain chicken joint in Chicago, but with quality ingredients and without the embedded homophobia. Now today, it’s late 2015 and we’ve come so far as to have a Shake Shack in my favorite mall. In between highly productive trips to Banana Republic and the Clarks Store, I stopped in to sample what I assumed would rival the best fast food burgers I’d had. The night club ropes and signage out front told me everything I needed to know about the popularity of this location, but at 2:00, I was lucky to find only a short line. I surveyed the relatively small menu(at least when excluding the dairy treats) and settled on the simplest of combinations: a single burger with Shack Sauce and fries. The measure of any fast food has to be its simplest items. Let’s get right to it. This is pretty miserable. I’ve been to New York many times. The people have great food and appreciate it. What in the world can they possibly like about Shake Shack? While I have little doubt the ingredients are sourced better than your neighborhood south-suburban Hardees, they taste like almost nothing. Where’s the flavor? the char? the special sauce? This was moderately better than a quarter-pounder and I say that in complete truth. Unfortunately, the burger was the best part. The fries would struggle to compete with literally any corner hot dog joint. I’m beyond confused. I know not what to say. Maybe I’ll try a shake someday?

Cheeseburgers are probably my most favorite food. They are my son’s favorite food too. So you understand why we need to visit the much lauded Shake Shack, even if it’s not the NY location. High quality beef for their burgers and incorporating local treats into their desserts(hello Bang Bang Pie) is enough for me to visit and after trying the food, I’m a fan. I loved my single Shackburger with lettuce, tomato and shake sauce. I found the meat patty flavorful and the whole burger very tasty. The cheese fries were delicious. Crinkle cut fries topped with thick cheese sauce – I rank the cheese fries right there with my other favorite cheese fries from Portillo’s. I got to split the chocolate shake with my son and it was pretty good, nothing too special, but still yummy. The frustrating thing about SS is the seating. They need to take a page out of the Hot Doug(RIP) or XOCO(downtown) school of seating. Because you order at the counter and wait for your buzzer to buzz, SS should not let people who havent ordered«save seating». Parties of one or two shouldn’t sit at the bigger booths either. And this is not the place where people should feel they can linger for hours after they eat(take your convo to Starbucks). Not when there are people who have received their food and are looking for someplace to sit. I plan to make return visits, but hopefully seating will be less frustrating the next time we visit.

The teens wanted to try the«Shake Shack», and I know they had visions of the Newport Coast version overlooking the ocean. High expectations from the kids. As far as new burger joints, this is a welcome addition to the shopping center. The line moved fast. They have many options. Their signature burger really appealed to me. The«roadside» with bacon/cheese/Carmelized onions. This was very yummy. Burger was juicy and very tasty. Really liked the cheese fries. The fries can easily be shared. Very generous portion. The shake my daughter got was a thick mixer type and I was lucky enough to get to clean up the last bit. Again, easily split between 2 – 3 people. Overall, a very good place to bring the family for some«fast» food.

Idc that it’s organic and vegan and what not and that’s what makes it cost more. It’s still too pricey for me. $ 21 and change for a couple burgers(one of em a double) and two orders of fries with no drinks is too expensive for my taste The flavor of the burger did not justify the high cost and the fries were nothing to write home about. To me, this is an easily forgettable burger joint. If I’m gonna go to OO and have a burger, I’ll just go to Epic Burger. There are also plenty of other burger places in the area that I’d prefer to dine at. Additionally, the fact that they have alcohol is not an original or differentiating concept. BurgerFI does the same thing and they have a location in Glenview just 10 – 15 min away. I have no reason to go back.

The best features about Shake Shack look to be their very fresh products and taste. We had a Double Shack($ 7.99), a regular hamburger($ 4.19), crinkle cut fries($ 2.95), and a Coffee Fair shake($ 5.25). The burgers were juicy and tasty and the buns also very fresh. The fries were nicely done and perfectly seasoned. The only quality drawback was the shake, which while nice in coffee flavor, was not thick and creamy but rather on the watery side. This location is modern, airy, and clean and has a nice vibe and layout as well as plenty of outdoor seating. They efficiently handle crowds that come and go like when movies let out from Old Orchard’s Regal theatres. Value-wise I would say their hamburger for $ 4.19 is a great value, and I would personally opt for two of these next time over a Double Shack, though the Double Shack does have cheese. For a $ 4 burger, this place feels like it’s in a first place tie with Culver’s butter burger. Will be back sometime!

All you people complaining about the cost is missing the point. First of all, it’s not that expensive. Try sharing the fries instead of eating them all yourself. There, I just saved you a few bucks. Second, this is not just any old burger joint because they use(quoted from their website): «100% all-natural Angus beef, vegetarian fed, humanely raised and source verified. No hormones or antibiotics — EVER.» If you’re not willing to pay the premium for better quality food, then go somewhere else. Your wallet might thank you for saving a few measly dollars, but your chemical-laced, toxic body won’t. Shake Shack is my favorite fast food burger chain. I love the way their burgers taste and look. They also have hotdogs(skip), crinkle cut fries(nice & crispy, but pass on the cheese sauce), custards, root beer, and alcohol.
