The food, atmosphere and service were all what I expected it to be for a greasy spoon. I did think that the prices were a little high for the quality of food we received. Apparently they offer melon to each table. They could use some quality control here as the melon we were served had a large bad moldy black fuzzy spot on it. If we hadn’t had the moldy melon, the food was decent not great.

Just went to Jack’s for a late lunch with my son. We used to go here all the time when we lived closer. We were so disappointed by the whole experience. We sat ourselves as directed and waited for 20 minutes and still no server — not even a hello. We asked to speak to the manager — he got up from a seat where he was eating, came over and proceeded to pick his teeth with his pinkie nail while mumbling, «sorry» and then he just walked away. Needless to say we will NEVER go there again. I heard they were closing… now I know why.

I’m really going to miss Jacks tuna salad sandwich when they close. It will surely be an end to an era :(

My fiancé and I have been coming here every Sunday for the past 6 months. We always go for breakfast. Everything is always served quickly and piping hot. I always get there Vegas Breakfast or the 2 Eggs with Bacon. My fiancé has tried almost everything and always raves abput it. The portions are huge and we always have leftovers to bring home to the dog. The waitresses are friendly and we always leave with full bellies and a smile on our face. :)

I went to Jack’s yesterday for breakfast after work with my co-worker Tony. I have eaten @ Jack’s before, but it was many years ago. The food is decent, nothing spectacular, but when your starving it’s all good. I ordered the New York strip steak medium rare, eggs over easy, hash browns(very crispy) and English muffins. All the food was cooked as ordered & decent, but the coffee was spectacular. They serve Superior brand coffee and it is a very good coffee. Elly’s Pancake House up on Milwaukee in Glenview use to serve this coffee. If you are a coffee aficionado you absolutely have to try the«Superior Coffee» I give the food @ Jack’s 3 + stars. The wait staff was highly amusing 4.0 stars and the coffee 5+ stars

Visited here while spending Christmas in Chicago. Your basic diner; and that’s what we expected. The food wasn’t great, however. Had an omelet with spinach and feta… typically one of my faves. This one was awful. Big chunks of cold feta and a huge wad of tangled up, kind of still cold, obviously from frozen spinach. Yuck. The rest of our group had«ok» food too… except the oatmeal, which was quite good. I’d give the food a one star on its own merit. However, our waitress… older lady with a wicked sense of humor… and the good coffee bumps it up two stars. We were staying close by for 4 days and didn’t return. Edgebrook Coffee Shop close by is MUCH better.

I like Jack’s. The food is always good. I went there today and had a great Boston Chowder and a Jack’s salad(like a chef’s salad.) Both were very good. Service was good, too.

Food is good but hugely overpriced for what you are getting.

Came here today for brunch. Got here did not get served bread, had to ask for it. I go to order my meal and I ordered there number 1 breakfast choice«Vegas breakfast» I got it in two seconds and it looked like plastic food. I felt rushed and I finally tasted it. The pancakes were decent like really good don’t get me wrong but the eggs and sausage I couldn’t even tolerate. It’s unfortunate that this edgebrook neighborhood doesn’t have any other breakfast places. Don’t recommend this place at all. PS nothing was fresh.

I used to love this place, but 3 times I’ve found something in my food. Twice hair and once lint. It makes me wonder about the cleanliness, which is disappointing because I really enjoyed the hash towns here. I have OCD and always check my food, but consistently finding something is a red flag. workers should wear hats

I’ve been going to this place for years. The food has always been great, the prices good and the portions always very good. It’s too bad their not 24 hours anymore but I will continue to go here often.

Jack’s reminds me of that diner Jerry, George, Elaine and Kramer on the 90’s hit sitcom Seinfeld used to visit. The waitresses are as much a permanent fixture as the booths you sit on. This place used to be an old high school late night stomping ground. So coming here felt reminiscent of my 10 yr H.S. reunion where old friends and acquaintances weren’t aging like fine wine instead was one step closer to the inevitable– old age. I had their spinach omelet, matzo ball soup and coffee. Good food. Good prices. Felt like old times. I enjoyed coming here and will always have good memories. But, in a time where glitz & glam and just a good idea is dominating the food industry I fear the old faithfuls like this, sadly is on life support. Good luck Jack’s!

I have been coming here for years. Best Motza ball soup around. Great bfast. Wait staff is very personable. They remember the regulars and their orders. Cooks gives the waitress’s crap thru the pass. Actually entertaining. Lots of food. Leave stuffed. With Money in your pocket.

A friend highly recommended the Francheesie and it did not disappoint! It was crispy the whole way through and I wanted to savor the last little bit of it, with a rich glob of cheese at the end, so I ate it slowly with a knife and fork! I also enjoyed other meals at your restaurant during my out-of-town visit, and your wait staff was so friendly and accomodating. Thank you for a wonderful experience!

Went to Jack’s only because we stumbled on it. Entered the restaurant and an older gent was giving us the once over. Then he states, «they are ok, they are one of us». WTF does that mean? Didn’t know I had to be one of whomever to eat there. Decided to stay and eat. The skirt steak was the worst I ever ate. For $ 12.95 I could have received a decent steak, not the size of 3 strips of bacon. Now I know why I live south and don’t often venture to the North. Guess I am after all not one of them. Oh and yes Jack’s your busboys aren’t one of them either.

Eh. Came here grudgingly for lunch between a seminar across the street at Holiday Inn. Too many choices and besides breakfast, there wasn’t too much appealing for vegetarians. I ended up getting a salad which apparently had half a bottle of French dressing on the plate and some greens. I also got a grill cheese, which seems very hard to get wrong. Except it did, because the cheese slice(probably Kraft) wasn’t throughly melted.

We have breakfast at Jack’s most weekends — ordering the same thing most every time. The staff is friendly, has memorized T’s order and always puts in a order of white toast with butter and strawberry jam for M. When you break it down, Jack’s is a typical diner. The food is fast, a tad on the greasy side, and the service is sassy. The most terrifying thing about the place? The parking lot! Plenty of Lincoln Towncars and elderly drivers to go with them. Although you may be hungry, be patient and don’t run the old folks down — most of them have been coming to Jack’s longer than you’ve been alive.

I’ve been coming here for breakfast all my life and I know that every time I’m in town I’ll have to stop by Jack’s. I enjoy most everything here, but there is one thing that I HAVETOEATEVERYTIME: Slab Bacon. If you don’t know about it, order it and see why there is no other place like it. Besides slab bacon I like their eggs, hash browns, thick french toast and bagel. I’ve had a few lunch items but I order breakfast every time. For breakfast in Skokie, there’s nowhere I’d rather go!

No joke, I’ve probably eaten at Jack’s more times than any other restaurant in my life! In high school, we hoodlums would always go in at 1 am for some flapjacks and coffee because it was the cool thing to do. I now work right near Jack’s so I’ll stop in with my pops for lunch every now and again. The food is exactly what one would expect from a diner/family restaurant. The service is good, although if it’s busy during the lunch hour you may go some time without seeing your waitress. The coffee is great and there is always someone walking around filling up the cups. It’s not super clean, but it’s never been an issue to me. A few things you should try: –Scrambled Mess –Crazy Omelet –BLT Club –Cheddar Cheese soup(only on Fridays) –Persian Chopped Steak
