My boyfriend and I actually just got home from eating here, as an early valentines day dinner going out. Let me start out by telling you about the atmosphere… There are 9 tables in this house-conververted-to-restaurant establishment. We were the only people in there eating on a Friday night. There was one other couple finishing up as we were seated, and they didn’t seem to have enjoyed their food very much. There was no music or anything to tamp down the silence in this dead dining room, so we were stuck listening to the loud buzz/hum of what I can only assume was the refrigerator in the kitchen. Moving on to eating. We ordered the hummus appetizer, which was drenched in olive oil, and came with a lot of olives, not mentioned in the menu. Along with the plate of olives and hummus blobs was two rolls, which we were to cut with a butter knife to dip into the hummus. These rolls were the blandest rolls I’ve ever tasted. I don’t know if they were purchased or made in house, but whoever made them added no salt. The hummus was also bland. The most attractive flavor on the appetizer plate was the olive oil, which was of fair-good quality. For our entrees, my boyfriend ordered the stuffed calamari, which were squid stuffed with crab meat, lobster meat, shrimp meat, and i believe scallop meat as well. The calamari was complete rubber, and the stuffing was mush. For my entrée, I ordered the seafood mac&cheese. It was the same ingredients as the stuffing in my boyfriend’s calamari, mush, plus massively overcooked bland penne. Let’s not forget the 5oz coating of baked on cheese over the top. I peeled the enormous cheese layer off the top, thinking I couldn’t eat that, but then later discovered it was there to serve as the salt in this dish, too. Incredibly bland, mushy food. This is coming from a woman who HATESSALT! It was creamier than it was cheesy, and wasn’t given to me as hot as I would have liked, considering we were the only diners! We ate a few bites each of our entrees, then decided to forge on into dessert. We ordered a crème brûlée to split, which was absolutely delicious! The bottom of the dessert was colder than I would have preferred, but it was still great. Overall, the service was good, again considering we were the only people eating there, you couldn’t expect much less. The bill at the end of this dinner was around $ 60, which wasn’t too terrible, although the food was far below our expectations. On the drive home, the both of us felt sick to our stomachs, and ended up discarding the leftovers before arriving home. UPDATETORESPONDTOOWNER: Sir, I’d like to say first that I truly appreciate your passion about your restaurant, however I believe you need to review your camera footage a little more carefully. We WERE given two rolls with our appetizer, not four, and in my opinion, they were extraordinarily bland. We finished our appetizer, that is true, because as people visiting a restaurant, we were hungry. But about our entrees; I did NOT eat 75% of my meal, I barely touched it. I found it overcooked, mushy, and generally unappetizing. And my boyfriend DIDNOT eat his entire entrée either, some of that was also packed in a to-go box, if you’d so kindly recheck your surveillance footage. We ordered dessert because I was still hungry. I apologize for asking for our food to take home, I didn’t want it, but I don’t like for food to be thrown away. It seems like such a waste. Additionally, I find it extremely rude of you to attack me and my living location because I wasn’t satisfied with my dining experience in your establishment. I fail to understand what my being from Pottstown has to do with the likelihood that I am giving an honest review. I did not lie in this review, but you did in your response to it, in addition to being needlessly defensive. That isn’t, in my opinion, the way to build a successful business OR gain repeat customers. Ask yourself, why is your restaurant empty on a Friday night the weekend of Valentine’s Day? Is it because of me, your customer, leaving a review on my experience? Or is it you and the way you’re running your business? I am attempting to give you constructive criticism so that you can shape your restaurant into the kind of place I expected when choosing to drive there. The food on your menu sounds incredible, and could be, if it were cooked correctly, and accurately described in your menu. If I were under the impression that my experience would be better visiting Gourmet Seafood a second time, and that gourmet seafood is what I would receive, I would happily return. And frequently. I love seafood. And as an additional note to you, I find it strange and unnerving that your dining room was silent, and that you spy on your customers during their dinner. Some music would be nice, instead of a silent room. If you keep behaving defensively and rudely towards your customers, you’ll drive them all away.

The service was fantastic. Very homey place. The appetizer was great. We ordered the stuffed calamari and the seafood platter. They were extraordinarily nice people!

I would say this is not good. Appetizers were solid but it was hummus and babbaganoush. It’s hard to ruin those. Entrees were well short of expectations from the other reviews. Way too much breading, over done shrimp and stuffed flounder. All hidden by a sauce served on most items. The highlight of the meal was the cannolis at the end. They were really good. We won’t be coming back.

The menu emphasized the seafood so we decided to go in that direction. Stuffed shrimp, stuffer flounder, green beans and crème brûlée were all delicious. Crab cakes were good. Great price for seafood that good, especially in Skippack Village!
