After I got past it being across from a gas station, I was surprised by what Texas Glad Rags had to offer. First, their clothes, shoes & accessories aren’t locally consigned, so don’t bother asking if they do it. Second, the owner is a sweetheart, super helpful & really down to earth. Third, I came in wearing riding breeches & muddy barn boots and no one blinked twice– a rare feat here in WA vs horse country VA where I’m from. Let me break down what they have: gowns & cocktail dresses, evening accessories, suits, jackets, sportswear, casual wear shoes, bags, jewelry. 95% of brands are akin to what you would find at Saks, Neimans, & Nordstroms. Now, not all are current styles(think some trends from 5−10y ago, esp in the shoes, bags & dresses) but many pieces aren’t as easily dated to a particular year. The items are clean & barely worn and deals abound. Case in point: purchased a gorgeous gown for a ball, with the $ 900+ tags still on for $ 60. Go, take a look and be surprised at the nice labels you can find in Silverdale of all places.

I ADORE this place. The fine lady proprietor has been so kind to me. I happened in one day when I had time to kill, and was carrying a backpack because I had been walking all day. I asked whether I could keep my bag on me while I browsed and was kindly told yes. I could not make any purchases that day, but had easygoing and pleasant conversation with the lady and an employee. I am ashamed that I do not know their names. At one point, they saw my hairclip and FREAKEDOUT, asking to take my photo for the shop’s Tumblr page. I declined and offered to pose for a photo another time, but I felt quite flattered. My first purchase here was a hat which I have worn around town. The proprietor does not hesitate to tell me it looks great on me, and I hear her praising everyone thus. I feel that this positivity is genuine, and it makes me feel welcome. The shop is cute and clean. It may seem cluttered to some, but to a discerning eye, there is order here. Clothes appear to be mainly organized by type, material, and colour. This is how I organize my own closet, so browsing in this shop is fun. Some items may seem overpriced considering their used condition, BUT – as I do a lot of online«window-shopping» and frequently look at designer clothes, I think a lot of the prices that seem high are fair. Expensive stuff, like a Red Valentino bag, would cost several hundred dollars more new. I am hardly a designer aficionado, but I recognize big ones here. Many items are unworn, tags still on, probably having sat in a closet for years before finally changing hands. I have been lucky enough to get a couple of these. There are a lot of shockingly good deals, too. Take, for example, the ankle-length silk skirt I got here. Later, I learned that the designer is Karen Fowler, and a knee-length variation of that skirt is in the designer’s webshop now for $ 295. I got my longer skirt of the same gorgeous design at Texas Glad Rags, in what appears to be new condition, for $ 49. I also purchased, that day, a wool-and-cotton knitted sweaterdress by Free People – obviously used but cared for very gently – on sale for $ 40. I can only guess at the dress’ original price, but similar items in the Free People online shop range from ~$ 130 to ~$ 170. The original Texas Glad Rags price for this is, therefore, good – and the sale price blew me away. I have seen quite a variety of stuff here, ranging in price from about twenty dollars to the low hundreds, depending on the item’s quality and rarity. There is a wide range of sizes, from tiny to actual plus-size. I cannot speak for the variety of plus-size garments, but I did see some nice sections ranging from 15 to 20, maybe beyond. I have managed to find a LOT in my difficult, medium size range – enough that I’ve had to force myself to walk away without purchasing things. The service and conversation are always fabulous. Help is always offered when I have an armload of items I want to try on. Yesterday, I was given a steep discount on two silk tops due to a mistake ringing up my items. That made me feel appreciated and ensured that I will be back for a fourth purchase. This boutique has tons of classy, funky, quality stuff – and it goes fast. A person of any age and fashion style can find something here, and have fun doing it. In fact, I am loathe to «give up» this spectacular spot, but I found it inexcusable that such a lovely business is not reviewed more highly on Unilocal

So you really have to dig at this place so go when you have the time. I have found some of the best pieces for my wardrobe here. A 100% cashmere sweater dress, Pikolinos boots, my favorite cowboys boots and all sort of other fun items. If you have a unique sense of style you will find something you like. Oh and I’m not old enough to wear Saint John but if I were… I would buy it here– they have a good selection. I can’t wait till I’m 65 to rock that! Also, what a great place for high school girls to buy homecoming and prom dresses! And to address the prices– any well dressed lady knows it is better spend money on one well made, classic item that 3 shoddy Forever 21 specials, am I right or am I right?

While this place is a really good idea, unless you see something driving by, it seems going in is always dissapointing. Sizes are not too varried also, worth mentioning. Mostly though, the prices are too high for what they’re selling. I’m sorry but remember folks it is used, if I can buy something all too similar for the same price or less… new… well, thats that.
