This was so not good! I threw away half my roll. I got the mixed paneer and chana masala roll. The spices were off and did not taste authentically Indian. I definitely wouldn’t try it again and won’t recommend it.

I’m a simple man. It really doesn’t take much to make me happy. I know, I know, I seem like such a demanding man in my reviews — asking for the best, facing down the abyss of existence with a fork in hand. It’s a tiring thing, America, to constantly battle against the demons of mediocrity and blandness, and it wears on a man. Makes a man hungry for something quick and easy — but not terrible and greasy. So, here I was on a warm summer day — battling said nihilism — and I see a few food trucks pull up. Some look slick — graffiti tag art styles, bright colors, prime locations and cutesy names. I admit, America, I was tempted by such things(what can I say, I’m a man of aesthetics) and as I was walking towards a certain kabob katery(see what I did there? that’s the type of wit you get with me) a minimalist — small logo’d yellow truck catches my eye. It’s an ugly truck. At least from the glance I took at it. Mustard yellow — red accents(I read that those colors make us hungrier than many other combinations of colors — hence fast food places accenting a lot of logos with such a combo) — not the type of truck you’d expect to find legitimately delicious, traditional and utterly awesome Indian food. I begin the tribulation of crossing the First Street NE and M intersection(damn you, taxis!) and approached with caution(as I was told to do with strangers). I was greeted by an extremely friendly face, and an even friendlier disposition. Immediately disarmed I realized how hungry I had been for the last half-hour I spent deliberating which truck to go to. I ordered the chicken with shredded paneer, chickpeas, and the spiciest sauce possible. Also a samosa because… I love them. They’re adorable and flaky and delicious. Like a 50s beach blonde — flaky but adorable. My lips tingled with heat — my chest warmed up, the balance and texture of the delectable and tender chicken with the cool smoothness of the paneer and elegant mash of the chickpeas was heavenly. The bread was warm and soft — with a little sweetness to it that worked wonders with the spicy contents. I paired it with an Arnold Palmer and sriracha sauce and I could’ve died right then and there and been a happy man. My girlfriend might’ve been mad at Rolls On Rolls(hitherto known as «God’s Food Truck») but as soon as she pried the wrap from my dead heads and eaten a bit, she would understand. I’ve gotten the same thing every single time they’ve come back to NoMA. You don’t understand, America — I AWAITANXIOUSLY for the return of God’s Food Truck(formerly known [in the last paragraph] as Rolls on Rolls). I look forward to the wonderfully quick service, the friendliness and the familiar faces. Oh yeah, and the absolutely wondrous food. So, skip the traditional kabobs and random cupcakes for lunch and get a heartily portioned, healthily balanced, and hella delicious roll from these guys instead. You’ll nary regret it. P.S — oh yeah they started doing delicious and nutritious juices now. They’ll deliver them to you as well and both are really tasty and you can feel yourself getting stronger when you drink their superfood-y goodness(think Popeye and spinach — but way more delicious and exotic).

First, forget the name. «Rolls on rolls» doesn’t seem to describe the business. The truck serves delicious Indian food(chicken masala, paneer, channa masala – chickpeas, and veggies) in a soft pita(or perhaps naan) bread. You pick how spicy — medium was good and my lips are still buzzing but I haven’t run for more water. I also had a fantastic«baked samosa» — spicy veg filling in a flaky, layered pastry crust. Had I eaten it right away, it might have had some crisp to it, but after carting it back to my office it was still yummy pastry goodness. I still can’t figure out why there was a long line at a neighboring truck and no line at this one. If you see Rolls on Rolls, and love Indian food, this is your lunch.

This is my favorite food truck in D.C. I go to Indian restaurants and ask for spicy food, but it is never spicy enough for me. However, this food truck is the only one in town where my tongue actually burned. Be warned that the spicy is really spicy! I order medium to spicy nowadays.

Vegetarians: Try the kathi roll with paneer(marinated cubes of white cheese), mixed veggies, and chickpeas. The cheese, especially, is seasoned just right. The bread is super soft, warm, and yummy. I also appreciate that they occasionally visit Capitol South — so many food trucks ignore that area altogether(I’m looking at you, TaKorean).

I made the trek over from my office yesterday to try this truck, and was very disappointed. I got the spicy chicken masala roll with a samosa — can’t remember exactly how much but it was around $ 11 – 12. The samosa was cold and completely fell apart when I tried to eat it, and the outside was soggy and had obviously been sitting around for a while, like when something is fried and covered so all the moisture seeps in. The flavoring was bland. However, this was actually my favorite part of the meal. I can’t put my finger on what it was, but something about the flavor of my wrap just seemed OFF. It may have been a combination of things — the outer wrap was way too thick and seemed like it made up half of the roll itself. the chicken was just a mush at the bottom. really not sure but in any case, I could only bring myself to eat half of it. The most upsetting part was, with all the other food options in the area, I wasted valuable tummy real estate on this :’(

Just had my frist kathi roll and it was really good! I opted for the chicken and medium on the spicey index. The cabbage was crisp and the chicken was seasoned well. The flatbread was soft and delicious. Will definitely be back; maybe to try the chickpea roll! Only reason it’s not a 5-star: $ 8 for a roll and you get nothing else; I feel that you can get a lot more food at other trucks for $ 8.

This is my favorite food truck. I am addicted to the chana massala wrap. Super fresh and tasty. I don’t know what else to say but that is what I love about food trucks– they are simple!

I stopped by the Yards park yesterday to check out the«Look both ways festival» and was thirsty from sitting out in the sun. The mango lassi looked promising and for $ 3 seemed reasonable. Alas, I was really disappointed since it did not have a lot of flavor and it tasted like watered down mango pulp. My friend ordered the chicken kathi roll which was more like a gyro/wrap than a kathi roll. I snagged half of it and the chicken was not bad. It was not dry and tasted a little like chat masala. The service was really good and the people running the truck were pretty efficient and methodical.

Fantastic healthy option from a food truck. I went for the Kathi roll(more of a wrap with whole wheat flatbread similar to naan) stuffed with Channa Masala(chickpeas) and veggies(you can mix and match the ingredients in the roll. I opted for medium, and it was pretty tame with a mild bit of heat. The ingredients were quality; crisp veggies and a great sauce with the chickpeas. The advertise as being pretty healthy, and I assume so compared to other food trucks. Definitely recommend.

I really enjoyed Rolls on Rolls. The samosa and lassi are totally skipable. The samosa fell apart easily, plus one of the potatoes in mine was black. Overall though, it was just not that tasty, though I ordered the fried version(there is a baked version as well). The lassi was also sort of bland. However, the kathi roll was great and filling. Bread and chicken were fresh, though mine was only topped with cabbage, not carrots as well. I asked for medium spicy, but definitely could have gone with hot. Medium barely had any heat. If they could up their samosa game, I’d be a regular.

On this beautiful sunny and windy day I went to Rolls on Rolls to try it out. I’ve never seen this truck before so it’s always good to try something new. By 12.45 they had run out of the chicken, leaving three vegetarian options. I ordered the chana massala, spicy as an alternative to the chicken. I opened the roll and saw that there was quite a lot of food and that this was going to be messy! I took a bite and soon realized that this was actually SPICY! One of the few times I’ve encountered something spicy from the food trucks. It was delicious, but boy was it spicy! The chickpeas were cooked well, the cabbage topping was refreshing and the bread was right on to hold all of the ingredients. With the disappointment of the chicken running out, the chana massala proved that you don’t need to have meat to have delicious and spicy food. I’d go back if they come back to Metro Center! On a side note, I do enjoy the name, but I kept thinking to myself, «got rolls on rolls on rolls»

I was quite pleased with my lunch from Rolls on Rolls this past week. I hadn’t had Indian food in awhile, so it really hit the spot. As other users stated, the bread similar to naan, but a little bit thicker and spongier than the naan you typically get at Indian restaurants. I opted to try the paneer as paneer is my favorite Indian dish. It was quite delicious. My only complaint is that it was a tad on the dry side(while still managing to drip onto my pants, somehow). But it would be difficult to eat on a roll if it had more sauce. Overall, it was very flavorful and filling. And I love that they are marketing healthier food choices. I love the food truck phenomenon in DC, but there aren’t enough trucks that serve healthy options! I didn’t get a samosa because I assumed they were fried. Definitely looking forward to trying one the next time Rolls on Rolls is around! Keep up the good work, Rolls on Rolls!

** DISCLAIMER ** I have not had a kathi roll in NY. Ok, first all of the samosa was TERRIBLE and looks nothing like the samosa pictured above. It was more 2 dimensional with a shredded looking texture and just so far from a samosa I could not eat more than two bites. They really shouldn’t call them samosas, they should call them an empanada, or hotpocket, or anything that won’t let the buyer down. I don’t fuck around when it comes to samosas, and neither should Rolls on Rolls. I got the chickpea kathi roll requested spicy. While the shredded topping was spicy, the chickpeas were bland to appeal to boring Americans, no doubt. Now here’s the problem — I find those willing to go out and try all these food trucks are generally a bit more adventuresome. I just don’t think the average food truck clientele is the same as the average mall eatery clientele, and food trucks should cook accordingly. In this case, the spiced topping did not compensate for the tasteless chickpeas underneath, but if the chickpeas had some spice in addition to the topping — we would have been in the money. The naan-ish type bread was a nice texture. Not dry at all. I love the premise of the truck explained on a little handout of the benefits of Indian herbs and spices(yeah where were they?), and the fact that they do not use cream, ghee, artificial ingredients, or non-stick cookware. They also bake whenever possible e.g. the«samosa.» I’m more than willing to give them another go if they fix a few things despite the prices being a bit high imo. Update 4÷4÷12 — chickpeas seemed improved upon. Had a decent meal.

By far, this is one of the worst food truck experiences I’ve ever had. Generally, I like to keep things positive in my reviews, but I can’t find anything positive to say about the meal I had from Rolls on Rolls. I was definitely stoked to try this place out because I miss kati rolls from my days of inevitably winding up at Kati Roll on Macdougal St. in Manhattan to end a night of boozing. My anticipation was unfortunately met with great disappointment when my friend I tried one of the kati rolls from Rolls on Rolls. What Rolls on Rolls serves is as far from what I remember from The Kati Roll Company in NYC or anywhere else as I’ve had one. First off, instead of using a paratha to wrap the filling, Rolls on Rolls uses something closer to naan bread; not the biggest deal in the world, but the fried goodness of a paratha is pretty hard to beat. What was worse than the naan was the filling; dry chicken with what was obviously store-bought habanero sauce. I have no beef with habanero sauce, it’s just not what I expect when I ask for a spicy kati roll. I wouldn’t expect chutney on a taco, so why use something that really isn’t meant for a kati roll? I think diced up green chiles would have been a lot better than a sauce that makes the kati roll taste more like a giant taco. Between the naan, dry chicken, weird introduction of habenero sauce, and lettuce(which I’ve never had on a kati roll), Rolls and Rolls need to market what they’re selling as an «Indian-inspired taco» and not a kati roll. As for any additional items from this food truck, the samosa is also not very good, and given a Magic Bullet and the ingredients, I can turn out a better mango lassi than this place(I hate being one of those people that swears they can make stuff better than a business, but when it comes to mango lassis I know I got skills)! Overpriced and underwhelming.

Stopped by for a quick snack near Navy Yard Metro. Picked up a samosa for $ 2. Tasted descent, but probably put together in a hurry because it falls apart pretty easily. I like my samosas to stay together when I bite into them. Larry C. wrote that the samosas were baked, but mine looked pretty oily to me as was evident by the oily napkin and dark splotches on the brown paper bag. Even if they are baked… do note that it is still oily… but good. The little green sauce… yum! I’ll probably stop by for more.

I had the chicken masala roll, mild. It was quite tasty and, for mild, gave a nice kick. My complaint is like everyone else: it’s a tiny roll for $ 8. Food trucks are supposed to offer bargain food. For only a few dollars more, I could have gone up the street and sat down, with white tableclothes, and had all-you-can eat Indian food.

Some of the best South Asian food I’ve had since returning from Bangladesh. — The samosa filling was amazing, and more than made up for the samosa pastry which had softened somewhat. — 1 vegan version — the paneer kathi was delectable, and all the more delightful that they describe paneer as «Indian Mozarella» I think this will become very popular and i can only hope they don’t americanize the recipes– they’re absolutely lip-smackingly perfect! Leave it to a li’l street food cart to blow the metro area«indian» restaurants all out of the water. I have no reason to swing out to Silver Spring tomorrow, yet, i’m seriously considering going 1 hour out of my way because, yes, it really is that good. Speaking of, I would love if they would do a full-service restaurant with food of the same quality. My daily scowl at the White Tiger on Capitol HIll will now be supplanted by a yearning/fantasy that the kathi rolls boy takes it over.

I’ve been hitting up a lot of food trucks lately. Downtown Silver Spring doesn’t have much in the way of food trucks. Some seem to appear now and then and then are never seen again. This one seems to have a consistent location which is nice. I figured I had to try each roll once and I did. I often eat vegetarian and it was nice to see that they primarily had vegetarian rolls. They were all enjoyable, none were great, but now I feel that I’ve completed my task and I’m in no hurry to return. When I get bored of the current local food selections or if a new menu item piques my interest, I’ll stop back. The owner is is really nice dude, so I hope they find a nice lucrative niche. Give it a try, see if it is your thing.

Just devoured my first chicken roll. It was awesome. The owner said that they try to make everything very healthy which is a big plus in my book. The brothers who own this place are living the dream – quit their desk jobs to make delicious food.(Well, my dream at least.) I love supporting local Silver Spring businesses and the neighborhood just got a great one!
