I have lived in Japan and think this place is top notch. The food is always fresh and you never go away hungry. The owner is originally from Japan and she knows how to provide Japanese hospitality and authentic food. I have eaten in here with friends and family for years and am never disappointed. There is good variety of cold beer and Sake. The Tempura is delicious and crisp. The restaurant is decorated in Japanese style and also provides a feast for the eyes. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience real Japanese food!

The 5 stars are solely for the fish. I went there in December 2015, and I was surprised when I saw who the chef was, because I knew him from Tokyo Sushi in Tucson(now renamed Hana Sushi). I drove the 1.5 hrs to eat there, because at the time, he had the freshest fish, and they had other delicacies on their menu that I couldn’t get anywhere else, like the shrimp balls. I go here strictly for sashimi and hot sake.

Hands down the best sushi in Sierra Vista area. Get a table in the back and it is cozy and you can be secluded with some hot sake. It’s a great spot!

Wonderful sushi experience, good ambiance, tasty miso soup, and refreshing tea. Quick service, friendly staff. Who could ask for more? I got tuna, baked scallop, and unagi. All were excellent.

I love this place and I’ve been going here since 2011. I’ve left SV and returned multiple times and every time I’m back in town they remember me. I love the food here and the majority of the ingredients they use(especially things like udon and ramen) are products directly from Japan. The service is always good and the staff are friendly and helpful. I recommend trying it out if you haven’t been. I just wish they had delivery!!! :-)

Great sushi and service! We stopped in on a Friday night and the service didn’t fail. We ordered many roll to split between the two of us and it was fabulous. Looking forward to revisiting again soon.

This sushi house was quite good and so cute. I’m not a sushi expert but I know a good roll when I see one. We had four rolls, a spicy tune and spicy salmon and two more. All were great. Fish tasted fresh. The owner lady even brought us out a couple of bowls of calamari. We had basically two servers and both were super nice. I can feel the family vibe in here. The atmosphere was nice as well. Lots of Asian statues, family pictures. There is a back room that feels more private. Hands down, if I lived here I would be a regular at this restaurant.

Tanuki is the best Japanese and Asian food in Sierra Vista. Very good restaurant. If they had a buffet it would even be better. But for what they offer it is more than acceptable.

Excellent family run sushi bar(they offer more than Sushi if you want to take someone who is not a sushi fan. Although the cream of the crop is the sushi. I once talked to owner and asked how she was able to get such fresh seafood in the high desert. She apparently has great relationships with Japanese distributors! This is business success! By the way, try the mandarin cheesecake(locally made dessert).

Tanuki has potential. My husband and I ate here a few weeks back and sat at the bar. The waitstaff are really sweet and the chef was funny. Unfortunately, I just wasn’t a fan of the sushi. Granted, I only had rolls — 4 of the specialty ones which I shared with my husband. But they were so big that I could hardly fit them in my mouth. The taste was fine but overshadowed my my fear of choking to death while trying to swallow :/. They also asked if we wanted miso soup and brought it anyway even though we said we didn’t want any — and then charged us for it. We didn’t mention it because it was good soup and was probably an honest mistake.

What can I say that hasn’t already been said? The food is great. The staff is friendly. You’re always warmly greeted when entering, and thanked when leaving. They will modify food for allergies. Their lunch menu is a very good value. You get a lot more than expected for the price. I always get sushi or a roll along with an entrée. I recently tried the shrimp tempura udon. I think I have a new favorite. The broth had a lovely flavor and fragrance. It complimented the tempura in the most amazing way which I was not anticipating. Look forward to having it again.

Awesome fresh sushi in Sierra Vista. I had the chirashi bowl, miso, gyoza, softshell crab and yummy rolls. Food is great. Service great as well. I wish they had more beers to choose from.

I’ve been to so many sushi places but this little cute place has so many different unique options that were amazing. They have a garlic sauce for the Sashimi and a Japanese martini consisting of plum wine and sake. Who knew such a combination would be so good! As for their sushi, it’s about average and the display of the food is as well mediocre, but their service makes up for it. Some of the must tries include the squid salad, Japanese martini, and their ultra strong wasabi(if you’re a fan of it).

Decent sushi for Sierra Vista, but that isn’t saying much. It was mediocre, really. The«spicy tuna roll» was nothing special and lacked flavor. The story doesn’t change much for the«tempura roll.» It was okay, but $ 8+ for 6 pieces of that? Never again. Total price for these two rolls: $ 15+… Not worth it. I wanted give other sushi spots in the area a shot. This place just didn’t do anything for me. Service is lacking and the sushi is on the bland side. I’ll make this my only visit and stick to Hana Tokyo for Sierra Vista sushi.

I’ve been dropping by to pick up the most delectable Vegas Roll in Cochise County, and be flattered by the delightful Maggie, for nearly 8 years now, so I’ve only one revision to my review from several years back… DON’T CHANGE A THING! Not a quirky, kitschy, endearing thing! Not a fresh, favorable scrumptious thing! Not a small town, genuine, friendly thing! It’s been working for 20 years. Because it’s the BEST thing!

The 8pc California roll was what I expected but the 6pc yum yum roll was really good. It had shrimp tempura inside. I’d definitely recommend that. The spring roll was a little peppery & was in a egg roll wrapper. I was expecting a wonton type wrapper. Staff was very nice & atmosphere was very welcoming.
