In 2010 I needed to have my 85 year old home I just bought re-​piped and called on Mike Stern. I was out of town so my real estate agent met with him to get the estimate. When they arrived to do the work, they were not told that I was remodeling the kitchen or turning the laundry room into a second bathroom, but Steve Ortiz the owner took it in stride and worked with me to get the job done and schedule around the remodel.
Just a few days ago I received a letter in the mail that the permit for my new heating and cooling system (performed by another company) was about to expire. I looked through all my old permits and that one was not given to me. However I also saw another permit that did not have initials on it. I called Anna (the best receptionist in the world) and asked if she could look into it and see if I needed to schedule an inspection for that one too. She called the city yesterday and called me back to tell me that the permit was completed but I had another one (HVAC) that was open and about to expire so she set up an inspection for today. This was not their permit (although they did the gas line for the HVAC unit), but she set up the inspection anyway. This is the kind of customer service that goes above and beyond and I will definitely use them again.

Ok, after my experience with Unilocal with My Plumbing Doctor (which failed me) I had to go to another plumber. I will give Mike Stern a 4 for communication and follow up. I am giving them a three because if it wasn’t for my friends that know about housing repairs I have a feeling this place would have charged me more than what is needed. If you shop around you probably can get someone cheaper but with price comes the risk of they don’t show up or do a shotty job. The work that was done which was quite extensive was done professionally and proper. My only advice would be to ask other people, buy your materials if you can and negotiate the price. I will use these folks again since they were prompt, got the work done and take all credit cards. Not just a cash business.
