The fried green tomatoes, OMG words cannot describe how good they are. Every time I pass though the Caroline’s I stop in just for them everything else is secondary. Good as well but I live up north and there is nowhere to go for fried green tomatoes in Chicago. Awesome food friendly staff and warm atmosphere.

It was OK mediocre, doesn’t taste like the old fatz of the past. I had the salmon and the only thing good about that was the cilantro sauce. My husband had the pineapple chicken he said it was OK but it was really a small portion. I took home wings to go, they were good.

First, I would give this place a 2.5 rating. The atmosphere reminds me of southern style bbq restaurant. Smelled like a small local bar, which I’m a fan of, many others might not like it. The bartender was very nice and engaged in conversation with me. It helped I had Pittsburgh gear on because he liked the Steelers. I went to the bar to sit and have supper. I had no idea what ‘calabash’ was so I decided to try it. I got the Calabash Combo which was too much food. My food came out very promptly! They give you a ton of popcorn shrimp and a good ain’tamount of tenders. The breading(calabash) was awesome! Very light and tasty, but I couldn’t taste it on the shrimp. OVERALL: Great atmosphere when I was there with the bartender and pretty decent food and not outrageously priced.

Horrible hostess. Ignored at the door for for about 5 mins while the hostess chatted with the staff. Then overlooked for folks that just walked in the door. It appears I’m invisible !!!

I still give the restaurant 4 stars for quality and service BUT I am definitely NOT a fan of their new menu layout or the fact they have dropped or changed many food items. Lots of the menu is now citrus based which isn’t such a good thing for diabetics.

I was a little underwhelmed. Don’t get me wrong, the food was good for the most part — I got the sampler with the calabash chicken, fried shrimp, and a half rack of ribs with bourbon bbq sauce. The chicken was nice and tender for fried chicken strips, and the ribs were good, but I am not sure if I would pick this place to go above others in the area. For sides I got the chicken rice soup and mashed potatoes, which were really nothing to write home about. The waitress seemed a little distracted, but was able to keep my drink full for the most part. Overall, good, but I don’t know if I will go out of my way to go back. If it happens, I won’t be disappointed, but won’t be overly excited either.

Passing through and decided to stop in. Our seater was originally from a town where we live and he made us feel right at home. Then we are served steaming hot poppy seed rolls with cinnamon butter and a serving of their famous calabash chicken. Both items were«on the house». Delicious, and fresh! Our server was friendly, quick and professional. I am not a fan of fried foods but it was so light and airy, it didn’t «taste» deep fried. My husband said the open face pot roast sandwich was«oh my goodness» and they even brought us a drink for the road !!! If you are traveling through its worth the stop. And the price was AMAZING

Good place to go for a family dinner. Consistent quality. If you’re not happy they would bring you something else. Decent salads. A selection of microbrews. In general, the servers are«with it» and food comes prttey quickly. There’s almost always a seasonal menu. The current one has Frito Pie, Fried Cherry Pepper Rings and a jalapeño infused Margarita. I did get the Frito Pie; it was made with black bean chili and fresh jalapenos. Quite addictive. Probably the best thing on the menu is the Carolina Peach Cobbler. It’s made on site with fresh peaches and served with vanilla ice cream. Lunch specials during the week with good soups(Tuscan Tomato is pretty amazing).

Great Hospitality! Southern charm. If it’s your first time, they will bring you samples and finish off with the amazing peach cobbler. Staff was very friendly and the manager also came by to check on us. Recommend!

Very friendly staff and management that stopped by and asked about our experience. Meal proportions were in line with the price and everyone enjoyed their selections. Our choices included the sirloin, a cheesebuger, a salad and the salmon dish. Everyone was pleased with their meal. Only time I ever have to eat at Fatz’s restaurant is when I’m in Shelby so I always try to go at least once. Very clean and conveniently located on Hwy 74. If you get a chance pop in amd give it a try. Environment is similar to a Chili’s but better.

Dinner here recently with a companion. Our server was condescending initially but seemed to warm up to us as the evening progressed. She brought our drinks and a dish of bread. I laughed when the bread arrived. Two over-sized donut holes! Thankfully it was delicious. We started with a double order of all-you-can-eat ribs. He didn’t like his.(The meat was too fatty for his tastes.) He sent them back and ordered a chicken dish with potato soup that he enjoyed. I tasted the potato soup and it was yummy. My ribs were very meaty(very little fat) but arrived lukewarm, as did the fries. It didn’t matter because I was starving. We(mostly me) blissed out on the scrumptious donut holes during dinner and even managed to snag some to go. I would probably return but I wouldn’t order the ribs again. I could barely finish the two half(?) racks on my first order and I didn’t like the fries or the coleslaw.

Decent food at a fair price. The ribs are either boiled or steamed rather than smoked, leaving them with almost no texture and very little flavor besides what the sauce adds… but that’s no different than most other chain restaurants. The Edisto Shrimp & Grits is excellent. The sandwiches and the Calabash chicken strips are also very good.

I have been going to Fatz since I first moved to NC in 2004. I highly recommend this restaurant, but definitely the Shelby, NC store. Not only have many of the staff members became honorary family members ;) but the professionalism, food, and desserts are phenomenal. The menu has many items that change seasonally, but the good ‘ol favorites remain too. Our family visits Fatz for any reason we can possibly create(almost). We do go when my kids get excellent report cards, birthdays, and even my wedding anniversary. In today’s economic struggle, it can be a difficult choice of where you would like to spend your money, but this is a wonderful place to take your family for a great dinner. They also have wonderful Sunday dinner specials for the after-church goer. You won’t be disappointed. PS… my latest and greatest favorite is the Jalapeño burger(even though I’m not a big burger fan.

Service was weird. Salads came out in OK time, but, entrees came out 10 seconds later. The table was full of plates and what do you eat first? I mentioned something to the waitress about it when she came over and she said«Well I would like to have my steak while it is still nice and hot». Does she not know there should be a break between salad and entrée??? The three of us ordered the same entrée, steak medium rare. Two of the steaks looked the same, cooked correctly. Mine was much thinner and was well done — totally gray. I do not normally send food back so I tried to eat it, but, just no flavor left. I told the waitress and she took it back for another. She then felt the need to come and tell me that the steak was marinated so that explained the darker color. I presume someone in the kitchen was upset that it was returned. I guess she forgot all three entrees were the same and the other two were fine!!! I hate it when people try to BS me. Eventually I got my new steak and got to eat by myself since the other two folks were done eating by that time. The waitress stated the manager wanted to come over due to the steak incident — common practice in restaraunts. Of course he/she never showed up. So, food is OK if cooked right. Service probably hit or miss depending on the server. OK place but I have no desire to return. I’d rather go to Golden Corral honestly after this trip.

Very nice! The hostess was not to be found for a few minutes. We did come in late, however, and weren’t in a hurry. The food is of great portions and the staff is wonderful. My daughter and I split a meal and the portions that came out were nearly a full portion, so we were definitely satisfied and full. The waitress gave the typical southern hospitality and was very attentive to our drinks and bread when we ran low. The only drawback was she was slow in getting us taken care of at the end of our meal. Her pleasant demeaner outweighed any problems we may have had. I will definitely go back again!
