Nice friendly place to eat. Staff was kind and attentive. We had the pad Thai and it was really good, can definitely recommend.

What a great place in Uptown Shelby! Had the Tiger Nachos(fantastic) and the Pad Thai(the best I’ve had). I live in Charlotte and order Pad Thai frequently from various restaurants in that area, and I think Joe’s Pad Thai beats all of them. I’d recommend checking with your server about the heat levels before you order. When they say hot they mean HOT! Joe, the owner, stopped by our table to chat with us. He’s a super nice guy and it really added to our enjoyment of the experience. If you live in or are visiting Shelby, this place is highly recommended!

Joe’s Place is a really cool restaurant near downtown. They have anything from Thai food to nachos here. I always order the Panther Nachos, and even thinking about them makes me hungry. If you come to Shelby, this place is a good spot to hit. And order the Panther Nachos. You won’t be sorry!

I really don’t understand the huge amount of stars at some of these places. I guess if you lived in a relatively small town you can’t compare it to food cooked by trained chefs. We ordered the spinach and cheese dip. It was very runny. I had to spoon it on the nacho chip. I ordered the Cleveland country club and my mom had the cheesy chicken sandwich, both with fries. The sandwiches were good and the(I think fresh cut) fries were good. But I don’t think this place deserves 5 stars.

I really like Joe’s Place; it’s definitely somewhere I wish I ate more often. It really is an interesting, charming little place. Random pictures and photos adorn the walls. They have a jukebox, an old combination scales/fortune telling machine, and a giant mural of downtown Shelby in the past that is just fun to look at. Ever noticed the guy in the mural walking into the jewelry with a rifle? How bizarre! As most people have already said and I am merely echoing, make sure you order the Thai food. I’m personally a fan of the chicken basil. Rarely do I order something else as the chicken basil is just so flavorful and satisfying. I did try some of my wife’s pad thai on Saturday and was pleased by it as well. Not as good as the Thai Market in King’s Mountain, but still quite delicious. I’ll just note that even if you order your food mild, their is still a bit of spiciness to it. This didn’t bother me in the least, but my wife kept commenting on it. Otherwise, this is an impressive little place in downtown Shelby.

Have been meaning to try it for a while. Our friends love the place and rave about the pad thai. We had tried to go here twice before unsuccessfully(Friday Nights) and it was packed. We saw that only one third of the tables actually had food and drinks. There was neither a hostess or waiter/waitress in sight. Patrons with empty tables looked frustrated. After about 2 – 3 minutes of just standing there with no one appearing, we left, feeling like staying would only lead to more frustration. OKay-so fast forward. We went early and actually got a table. Kudos for having Singha beer. The fried tofu was good. My yellow curry with chicken was just so so. My wife had the pad thai which was good. I found myself comparing it to the Thai House Gastonia/Charlotte and the Thai Palace in Chapel Hill and it fell short. Those places make a mean curry and pad thai. The waitress was nice and the owner stopped by to say hi. It is nice to have a place in Shelby where you can get Thai food.

Great food and attentive service. Joe’s has a diner atmosphere and food presentation, but is super high quality and tasty. It’s like a secretly fancy restaurant.

I love going here, and still cannot believe the crazy Thai-Italian-American mash-up works — but the Thai food is incredible, and the service is the best.

Are you in the mood for Thai, American or Italian? At Joe’s place you can have them all! From fried pickles to green curry and lasagna with a twist there’s something for everyone on their diverse menu! You can substitute tofu anywhere on their menu! Try the tofu basil or the tofu green curry. They have a wonderful dish called tiger tofu nachos that any vegetarian should try!

Excellent burgers and salads. Unbelievable Thai food. The cook is from Thailand. This is simply one of the top 3 places in the area to go… casual, fun, affordable.

Because of the location, in an old storefront, you expect you’re walking into another small town lunch diner. But that’s not what you get. It’s certainly not fancy. But one look at the menu and you’ll wonder how a small town can support a place like this. The menu is huge. But take my advice — skip all the fried American stuff, and skip the Italian. Go straight for the Thai food. One of the owners(husband-wife team) is from Thailand, and she and her sister do the cooking. Try the Pad Thai(ask for it Thai hot, if you dare). Or the Bangkok Cashew. Or the Nutty Chicken. But my favorite is the Thai Salmon. The glaze on top is sweet & spicy & delicious. I get to Shelby frequently on business, and Joe’s is always on my short list when I’m in town.
