Westlake Ace Hardware

If it’s something I know they’ll have, I’ll go here every time versus the big box hardware stores. I don’t have to walk a mile in the store to get to what I want. Fortunately, most of the time they have what I need. The staff is always welcoming and helpful. Most of the prices are reasonable and I’ve found some items priced cheaper than the mega stores. It is a little cramped inside, but I get that having to compete against those big stores.

Ace hardware packs a lot of punch into a fairly small package. No you aren’t going to get all the crap you are going to find at a big box home improvement store, but if you aren’t looking to rebuild your house, you probably don’t need all that stuff. And anyone that has ever worked on anything knows that you can go and stock up on «everything» you need for a project only to realize you need something else and Ace is a great place to go to get those things. This place is so much easier of an option for an «in and out» sort of shopping trip. And when you are in the middle of a project, that is what you need. You don’t need to drive halfway across town, walk through a giant parking lot, walk through a massive store fight a line and then reverse that whole process. You can pop in and pop right back out of Ace.
Well, in theory… You will still somehow manage to get at least one thing you didn’t know you needed until you were in the store and it caught your eye. Happens every time. They don’t have a ton of things, or maybe more accurately, 15 versions of the same thing, but they have what you NEED.
To the big plus for a place like this is convenience and simplicity. They aren’t mucking it up with a ton of options or with having a lumber yard and selling appliances. This isn’t the place to rebuild your entire house. This is a place to get the things you need to do the jobs you need to do.
On top of that, the products they carry all seem to be good quality and durable and the staff is always super friendly and helpful.

Great hardware store for having anything from having keys made to buying a quick gallon of paint. In fact they have a great variety of keys to choose from so get a fun one!
They also carry everything from dog food to thermometers to yard items! Try em out!

When you need to get in and get something specific, this is the place you go.
As soon as I walked into the store, a cashier greeted me and asked if I needed help finding what I was looking for (glass for a picture frame). He guided me to the correct department and paged a staff member to help me. Within about 10 minutes I had my custom-​cut glass and was on my way again. If I had gone to one of the super-​sized home improvement stores I would probably still be looking for a staff member who could cut glass.
Westlake doesn’t have everything, but they do have the basics. And they are miles ahead in the customer service department.

Overall, I like Westlake. Tonight was a little annoying, but I’m not going to let one dorky kid ruin it for all the other visits I’ve had. I walked right in and got what I needed and came to the open checkout. The checkout kid was standing over at another counter looking at a book and playing with a hole punch. Another employee was standing behind him staring at me as I waited at the register.
After a couple of minutes of me watching the dorky kid dreaming about his hole punch and the other kid staring at me, a couple of guys came out of the office and walked past me. One guy turned around and said to Dorky Kid, «HEY, what’ya doing?» Dorky Kid then bumbled around and came rushing over. He says «I’m sorry I didn’t see you, I was really caught up by the noise that my hole punch was making.» He then proceeded to demonstrate to me the really cool sound that a hole punch makes … you know «click click click». I explained to him that — in my opinion — if I’d just been «caught» doing something really dorky at work, I probably wouldn’t point it out, especially by demonstrating it to the CUSTOMER who has been waiting to pay for her purchase as he was doing that said dorky action. He kind of gave that some thought and finally decided that maybe he’d ring up my purchase.
When he rang up the item, I noticed that the price seemed to be about $ 6 higher than the tag on the shelf said, but I figured I’d just looked at the wrong tag. He insisted on sending the staring kid over to check it to be sure. Staring kid couldn’t find the item, I told him where to look, finally he found it. It turns out that I was right, so they adjusted the price. Actually, the price that rang up was the actual price, but the wrong tag was on the shelf, so they honored the price on the shelf. This was nice; however, I had to wait several more minutes as they filled out a form for their records.
Basically, it took me 10 minutes to complete a transaction that should have taken about 1 minute. It had its highs and lows, but I guess, I give them some credit for entertainment value?

I love this store from everything to the garden department to the pet section. They have everything and the people are always super friendly and knowledgeable.

I always walk out with more things than I had planned on; that’s because I always see things I didn’t realize I needed! :)
This is to summarize all my previous visits.
I have always encountered friendly, helpful employees. They offer their assistance, but don’t tail you around. (That’s important to me.) The cashiers are great as well.
The store isn’t as big as a Lowe’s or Home Depot with all their thousands of gadgets, but I can find almost any household item that is a NEED here, as well as many splurges or luxuries that make life a bit easier or more fun.
Over the past few years, I’ve been here maybe a dozen times, and haven’t had any problems. (And if my son goes to work there, I’ll be shopping there even more!)
