Duffer’s Bar & Grill

Love their breaded mushrooms! Got their western burger and onions rings. Good all round burger. Wife got the cuban. Very good sandwich. Good service and good food. Always have a good experience when we come to Duffers.

Tip: be prepared for just ok and you will be pleased. This is where waiters and waitresses get their first job waiting tables.
It is a bar with standard bar food and regular customers.
That being said, if you can get past average at best service, a dark and dingy atmosphere, then the food will make you say «Ok, I can come back»
The kitchen is the only thing this place has got going for it!

I went to lunch today with my younger sister and her friend. I’ve had lunch there before and have had great service. The food is good. However today I didn’t have such a great experience. I’m a server myself and believe in team work as well as good service. That’s not at all what we got. I’m not sure if the man waiting on us was having a bad day. If so I hate that and I hope it gets better. We were not greeted with kindness nor did our food come out correct. My sister is a vegetarian. I specifically asked for NO bacon. Which everyone makes mistakes. As a server to not check on your table once there food comes out and to only drop it off is rude! My sister was drinking water and never once was given a refill. I had to give her the rest of my tea. It’s not like we sat there and sucked down our beverages and he or any other staff had to continually brig us refills. I will never leave a tip under 20% today I really wanted to. Maybe I just went on a day that the man who was waiting on us was having a rough day but it definitely wasn’t a pleasant visit.

Just got my take out. Ordered the Cobb salad. Literally the smallest salad I’ve ever had for $ 8. Bacon and cheddar cheese was completely omitted. Just a complete rip off. So disappointed and hungry.

We have been here a couple of times in the past two weeks and the food was excellent. But I am mainly writing this review due to some outstanding customer service. In both visits we tried to use a gift card issued by the restaurant with it freezing up their computers. We saw the manager today and he apologized for our troubles, took the card and repaired it and went out of his way to make us feel like valued customer. We will definitely continue to visit this restaurant in the future.

Second visit to Duffer’s, the other was a year ago while on vacation in Sunset Beach. That experience was good and was why we came back. This year after twenty minutes and watching at least 16 people who all came after us get seated before us was enough. The hostess was useless and looked like she was staring down the barrel of a gun the entire time we were there.
We arrived around 5:30 and granted, we had a party of eight and they have only one area that was ready for a party that big. For some reason they had seated a party of four in this area before we arrived. There were many four tops empty that could have been put together to fit us. When we arrived we were the only party in the waiting area and were told that we would be seated in 5 – 10 minutes. Soon other parties of 2, 4 and 6 arrived and she was seating them, including at 4 tops that 5 minutes later could have been part of a 8 party table. We asked about the big area in the back and she said the four people at that table that were there when we arrived just got their food so it would be a few more minutes until it was ready. Really? Just a few more minutes? This young lady has no concept of time and table turnover. We finally told her we were willing to break up the party and do two parties of four, She then wandered around clearing tables and checking out the diners while we stood there with at least 3 high top four seaters available in the bar. Other parties were now in the waiting area. When she returned a gentleman stepped up and said that his party of three was going to take a 4 person high top in the bar and she said okay, that’s fine and took them menus and silverware while we stood there waiting. That was all we could take. When she returned we let her know we were tired of waiting and would be going elsewhere with our business.
We ended up at Cozy O’s Italian Bistro (
) in Little River where we received excellent service and some of the best Italian meals we’ve had in twenty-​six years we have been vacationing in the North Myrtle/​Calabash/​Sunset Beach area.

Good place for enjoying a nice meal. They have an amazing selection of hot sandwiches. I did the Philly Cheese Steak and it was great! Homemade fries were also very good. Nice staff that takes good care of you. Prices are very fair and they have draft beers also at reasonable price. Would definitely recommend!

Service was great, very attentive staff. I ordered the Shrimp Po’ Boy, the food portion is well worth your money but I was looking for more a unique taste than just French bread, fried shrimp, lettuce and tomato, so a little disappointing there. Onions were nice and crispy, I also tried their fries and they were deliciously seasoned.

Stopped there around 7pm on a Friday night. Place was about 50% full. Sat at the bar. About half dozen beers on tap. Ordered nut brown ale, which was very good. Extensive menu finally decided on Reuben sandwich with fries. Food arrived fairly fast and hot. Bartender was friendly and attentive even as he was waiting tables in addition to the bar. Two beers and sandwich for under $ 15. When back in area a very possible stop.

We were tourists on a golf vacation looking for a good lunch. The wings were great and the beer was ice cold… AND the barmaid is a total goddess!!! You can’t go wrong with this place at all!!!

I’ve always loved duffers, before I was a vegetarian I absolutely loved their French Dips, but now I eat their veggie burger which is awesome, sided with their great fries. Really relaxed and informal atmosphere. Great service.

Our family burger stop. The best burger for the price. Good size always cooked to perfection and amazing onion rings. The fried green tomatoes are some of the best I have had at the local establishments. Bring an activity for the younger childten like crayons or phone games. Offers a few options for vegetarians and a great staff.

I walked into the dark and cool restaurant for lunch, a welcome retreat from the heat outside. It’s an old restaurant with tables and booths but friendly service and most importantly great food. I love seafood (If it’s from the sea, it’s for me). Ordered the blackened grouper sandwich with onion rings. For only $ 9.50, I had a large grouper filet, perfectly cooked. Oh so tasty. The onion rings were beer battered and greasy in a good way. Great place for a satisfying lunch.

Great place to have your topical bar and Grill items. Solid staff service. One of thd best in Shallotte.

I live in the area and there are not many good places to eat without traveling a little more north or south. I would say Duffers is ok for a burger or sandwich. A step above a fast food place. Good for lunch if your not in a hurry.

Duffers pub and deli? A more fitting name would be duffers bar and grill. It’s limited beer selection (and bartenders limited knowledge thereof) rules out «pub» as part of the name. The local grocery stores have higher quality“deli” meats. However, if you want a decent burger that’s not purchased from a drive –thru window I guess it will do. I do eat here from time to time however hoping it will be better than the last time. It never is. Glutton for punishment I guess. Can’t wait to try out The Grill new restaurant in old Hardees bldg. The owner of the Grill is an actual chef. Still he doesn’t call his restaurant some pretentious name. C’mon Duffers… For the sake of mankind, change the name. Be proud to be a humble grill

Not the greatest place overall… but if you just want a burger or something of that type, this will do ya. Their draft beer selection is atrocious and laughable… And the ambiance is loud and not much to write home about. But I’d definitely go back again for a lunch sandwich or something along those lines.

This hole in the wall restaurant was a welcome retreat after a long day of travel. Upon recommendations of a friend who lives in the area, I ventured here with my Mom. The ambiance was pleasant and casual. The patrons appeared to be mostly families dining together. We were seated immediately at a booth. Our waitress promptly appeared to take our drink order and when she returned we put in our food order. My mother and I decided to split the rib eye sandwich with onion rings. We didn’t wait long at all for our food and when it came, the waitress had split it onto two separate plates. It looked like a full entrée with the half sandwich and generous portion of onion rings. The sandwich was served with the most deliciously flavored au jus and it was scrumptious. The meat was delicately sliced and seasoned to perfection. The bread was toasted and crispy, which made it all the better when dipped in the au jus. The onion rings were pretty standard, but cooked to a flawless finish. I even left a few on my plate because the sandwich was so filling. Our waitress was highly attentive and genuinely friendly. Shortly after clearing our plates, we were presented with the check. Since we had both ordered water our bill came to $ 10.82! I couldn’t believe it! Two people had enjoyed a hearty dinner (with rib eye) and it only cost us less than $ 20 with tip. I will most definitely return since they have much more on the menu that I want to try.

So, I walked up to this place and there was a table outside the front door with a group of unpleasant-​looking women with cigs hanging out of their mouths sitting there.
As soon as I went to open the front door, one of them takes a massive drag from her ciggy and coughs out «are you with the Williams party?»
Me: «No. Does that mean that I can’t go inside?»
Her: «No, but that’s what’s going on in there.»
Me: «Cool.»
I open the front door and am greeted by what smelled like a four-​alarm tobacco fire, an MC shouting about grabbing dollars and stuffing them into your pants, and drunken hooting and hollering from all of the senior citizens. Which was every single person in the restaurant.
I shoulda listened to the cigarette lady’s advice.
