Darren is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!
I have a rather unique situation. I’m physically disabled, I don’t speak because of a little plastic tube in my throat, the tube is connected to a hose that’s connected to a machine that does my breathing for me. I can pretty much only move my face. Technology is basically the key to my existence. Without technology, I can’t communicate, I can’t do anything. Fortunately, Darren REALLY KNOWS technology.
Often, people first meet me and they talk s-​l-​o-​w-​e-​r and LOUDER, because, you know, physical disability means intellectual disability. Darren didn’t make that assumption, he spoke to me kindly, respectfully. I communicate in text, Darren was always patient while I typed. Definitely a good start.
I needed Darren because I had to move, which meant that my totally gorgeous, totally decked out, technology-​filled room needed re-​created in the new house.
I have:
A 27″ iMac mounted to the ceiling above my bed.
A 46″ flat-​screen HD TV.
A Verizon DVR.
5.1 surround sound.
Apple TV.
An Apple Time Capsule (fancy router).
A USB IR remote that’s connected to my iMac that controls the TV, DVR, surround sound, Apple TV.
Everything took me years to obtain and arrange and refine at my previous house. I had lots of people to help set everything up, but I had to explain exactly how to do everything. Now, those particular people are gone, I’ve become very dependent on my set-​up. Having to move, I was REALLY stressed out about having to re-​do everything, having to re-​explain everything to new people who are… way less savvy. Darren advertises as «Media Savvy,» but I had no idea that that advertisement would end up being 250% accurate.
Darren had my iMac on the ceiling, perfectly placed, in under an hour. He connected my Time Capsule in two seconds, without being told what it is, or how it connects. He set up the rest in a day, I didn’t have to explain anything, he just knew what to do. He even mounted my IR remote so I had control over everything as soon as he was finished with the set-​up. I was beyond amazed. He even vacuumed the unavoidable drill mess.
I’m watching a movie via my Apple TV in 5.1 surround sound right now, my room is spectacular.
