Once a year she opens her garden to the public to smell and enjoy the flowers. She sells the seeds on site and mail order. The varieties are amazing. Such fragrant and lovingly cared for plants. If you are local, she sells bouquets at Whole Foods. I purchased several packets of my favorites. They are $ 0.50 per seed and come in packets of 10. It is so hard to walk away from these intoxicating flowers knowing you have to wait another year to smell them again. Plant in October for June blooms! Wonderful!

I don’t remember how I heard about Glenys Johnson and her sweet pea business but I’ve attended her one-day open house for the ten years she has been hosting such at her sweet pea«demonstration» plot in downtown Sebastopol. Glenys sells England’s finest Spencer sweet peas in seed form. Every summer for one day in June, Glenys hosts an annual open house at her«demonstration» plot in downtown Sebastopol. This little slice of heaven is located in between the Analy Veterinary Hospital and Sandy’s Paint Store, just past the local Taco Bell on Hiwy 116. It makes for a nice little day trip from the bay area. You will see a garden plot of blossoming and fragrant Enchanting Sweet Peas of many varieties. There is a self-guided tour where you can see the many colors and inhale the sweet perfume. There is usually over forty plus varieties growing in this plot open to the public. The new varieties will be available for you to see in person before you even buy the seeds for the cooler planting season late in the year. Walking around, inspecting the heights, colors and scents made for a very happy gardener in me! They even hold a little raffle giving away bouquets of sweet peas round the clock. Refreshments are available as well such as home baked goodies, coffee and cold drinks. If you can’t make it this year(June 8th, Sunday from 10:30AM — 4PM), you can order the seeds online for delivery in October for early planting. The address for the one day 10th annual open house is 900 Gravenstein Highway North(Hwy 116). You can call them on a weekday prior to the Sunday open house if you need additional help. Sweet peas are a beautiful display and the perfume fills a room! It is something I look forward to every spring… *NOTE: Photos courtesy of Enchanting Sweet Peas; VISA, MasterCard and American Express(yes, Randy, our fave card!) are accepted for online and at the open house on June 8, 2008*
