I love this pizza for 3 simple reasons: 1. Quality: The pizzas are handmade and it shows. — every pizza is made with love and care. Great crusts and good toppings make every pizza count. Plus the people that work here are friendly and they are always willing to work with you on creative menu suggestions. 2. The variety of flavors and types of pizza — there is always something new to try. They make a bunch of different types; from veggie and meat flavors, to a BBQ chicken, to a great basic basil and tomato. I’ve tried a few and my favorite is the«Arugula patch» with prosciutto and arugula and mozzarella. They also give you a bag with extra arugula and lemon to squeeze over it. Delicious. 3. The gluten free options. Where else can I order a large pizza and split it with half soy cheese for my dairy/wheat free little daughter, and cover the other half with pepperoni and cheese? Zaw is willing to do it for me. Plus the gluten free crust is one of the best I have tried. OK if you are a pizza fanatic then a gluten free crust is not going to change your world. And it’s not cheap — a large pie will cost around $ 22. However, being able to share a really good handmade pizza with my daughter goes a long way. And she loves it too. PS try the cookies for dessert. The ginger snap one is awesome. Also, pay ATTENTION to the cooking times and oven temps — these pizzas do cook quickly.

We decided to use the Groupon deal tonight for $ 20 worth of Zaw food. I placed an order online for a large pizza and a salad at 6:30pm(on a Wednesday evening) and the earliest available pick up time was 7:13pm. 45 minutes to not-cook a pizza? Ok, i assumed they were busy from the Groupon rush, no big deal. When I went to pick up the pizza 45 min later, they still hadn’t made my order and only went to make it when i asked for my order. I got the pizza home and had my grill fired up to 450, with my pizza stone already preheated. I have made pizza before on my stone both in the oven and on the grill, and I have the times down pretty well. When reading the Zaw«grill» instructions, it says to cook the pizza for 6 – 10 minutes, rotate, and cook for a total of 15 – 20 minutes. I thought this was WAY too long for a pizza on the grill, but ok. 8 minutes later I go to turn the pizza like the instructions say and WHOH. The entire crust was pitch black and reeked of char. A little too well done for me, only halfway through the«stated» cooking time. Maybe if i’m adventurous i’ll try Zaw in my oven, but for now Papa John’s is on the way…

I wish this place would get their s**t together! Their pizzas are great, the salads are yum, and you can’t go wrong with being able to get wine and beer delivered… but we’ve had multiple issues… one night we couldn’t order b/c they didn’t have anyone to deliver, some nights it’s taken forever(but seriously… its not like they are baking the pizza!), other times they are out of ingredients, and most recently I called after waiting an hour for delivery and«oops», my order had been put in as a pick up and of course the delivery person had left and they had no way to get it to me. They offered to comp me half a pizza… but I’m over zaw… Awesome product, but seriously wish they would get it together in the staff/service department.

‘Zaw was just OK. Used a $ 40 LivingSocial coupon, which got us a Tailgate Party pizza, a Caesar salad, an Ironman spinach salad, and a bottle of wine(total after coupon: $.82). The pizza is on the small side when you’re used to delivery pizza. I think it’s 14″ rather than 16″. I liked the flavor(bacon and pepperoni, and caramelized onions), my guests were not as thrilled(the bacon was an unusual taste). The crust is SUPER thin, almost cracker thin, and the toppings were light too. The whole pie was only a little bit thicker than the cardboard disc it was packaged with. If you put one slice on top of another one, you’d get the equivalent of a normal slice from Snoose Junction, Crash Landing or other local places. At any real tailgate party, this would get laughed at. Both salads were delicious, though also on the small side — they didn’t fill up the box like Mad Pizza or Romio’s or other local places. The boxes were ½ — 2⁄3 full. Felt a little chintzy for $ 7+. I ate a whole salad by myself for lunch the next day. Tasty, but — I guess this comes down to how much you’re willing to pay for virtue. ‘Zaw seems like a joke out of Portlandia — here’s your organic, locally produced pizza, gluten-free and milked from local cows! And it turns out to be an $ 18 cracker with a thin layer of precious toppings, and you have to cook it yourself.

The delivery service was fast, but I totally spaced and forgot the pizza was a bake at home. When the dude arrived I was so dissapointed that i still had to bake it. I payed WAY too much for a pie that I still had to bake. The ingridients were good. I got the Apricot pie. It was about $ 25 for a large after delivery. Too much. Although, I am glad the ingredients are so good and wholesome, that’s worth the price, always. Tip for the phone ordr guy, when he quotes the price, he should totally say something like ‘…now would be a good time to pre-heat your oven.’ ;) Cheers!

I got a coupon on livingsocial to get some zaw. I think everyone in Ballard did. And tried to use it on the same night as me. It was the middle of the summer and it was friggin’ hot out. I should have called in the order, but this day, even people who ordered ahead had to wait. I was patient and nice to the guys behind the counter, but I really don’t think they have EVER experienced what a rush is. They seemed to be bungling everything. Ok, so businesses, if you’re going to put your deals up on livingsocial or groupon, please think about how your staff will handle this. Thank you! I haven’t been back since. I could make my own pizza and it would be cheaper anyway.

Really tasty. I had the Pig ‘n Pear and the Margherita pizzas and both were great. The crust turns out perfect. Just make sure you order online or call ahead. If you walk in and order, they are S-L-O-W.

Good stuff! I had a $ 40 Living Social voucher to use at Zaw, and was impressed with how much we were able to get! Here’s what it came down to: –Chicago Deli Pizza: Lots of meat(bacon, prosciutto, salami)… yum! –Cranny Goat Salad: Goat cheese and cranberries(duh), oh and some field greens and pine nuts. Pretty tasty salad, especially from a takeout pizza place. Really fresh, and the dressing comes on the side. –Ironman Salad: Yummy spinach salad. –6 pack of Fish Tale Organic Amber Ale. They have a pretty good beer selection at reasonable prices. Makes for a nice full meal on a lazy, rainy night. The BF griped about parking, since this location is in a happenin’ place in Ballard. Didn’t change the taste of the pizza though! :)

Dear Zaw, I’ve been a customer since you opened here in Ballard… I’ve thought(too) long and hard before writing this. I really do like the quality of your pizza, and I’ve always written the service issue off as something that goes with rooting for the underdog, but you’ve seriously got me reconsidering at this point. I want to order a pizza. You deliver pizza. It’s your thing… How can I start to talk about the quality of the food when it takes 90MINUTES to even get my order? And please remind me why I’m paying so much – it’s certainly not to pay your delivery«drivers». Beyond the name, is your Ceazaw Salad really clever enough to warrant the price? The reality is that you really do charge a premium for your product, so is it too much to ask that you consistently put a reasonable portion of toppings on my pie?(I don’t have much to say about your deserts – I’ve tried them and I simply won’t order them again.) Lombardi’s, Palermo, Stacia’s, Amante, Pagliacci, Romio’s, Verde, Snoose Junction – there’s no lack of reasonable pizza(price/product/service) for Ballard, so I’m dropping my rating of Zaw to dead middle. I see on TV that Dominoes is rethinking their gameplan in order to retain their customers. Take the hint. –Your Customer.

Zaw uses great quality ingredients and you probably won’t find better take-and-bake pizza in Seattle. They have a nice selection of toppings and lots of ways to help you manage if you have food allergies or something similar. The gluten free crust is fine, but nothing special. The normal crust is quite good though! They’ll have your pizza ready quickly as well! My only gripe with Zaw is the prices. A pizza is really expensive and not that big. Gluten-free crust also costs extra. However, usually the price is worth it for me, as the quality of the pizza is wonderful.

I *love* Zaw. Their topping selection is great, and it’s the perfect thing to fulfill my pizza cravings without making me feel like a disgusted, greasy mess afterwards. I seriously cannot put into words how much I love this place.

Second time visit … we liked zaw the first time and wanted to try the tailgate pizza on the Bbq. I picked the pizza up and one of those bbq cooking screens they sell there. We followed the directions… it worked perfectly. The tailgate pizza is my favorite but we find there’s not enough on it… so we got the sausage added, which really did the trick. It was excellent. That crust… its the best. Who knew you could bbq a pizza on a gas grill but now, I wouldn’t do it any other way.

Quick delivery and delicious pizza! One of those nights where we just didn’t know where we were going to find dinner in Ballard. We’ve been meaning to check it out since it’s right in the neighborhood and boy, I’m glad we did. You have an option of ordering whole wheat, traditional, or gluten-free crust… great for all my gluten-free friends. The traditional crust is great if you like thin crust pizza. I like the fact that you can have the beer and wine delivered too. We’ll definitely order again. This place rocks!

Really? $ 30 and you won’t even cook it for me? It’s fancy artisan pizza, with fancy artisan toppings, but I feel that it’s overpriced for what you get. The upside is that they deliver wine. I dig that.

I like Zaw. It’s like an upscale Papa Murphy. And they deliver. We had the Chicago Deli and a Caezaw salad(which looks nothing like the picture) delivered one nasty, rainy cold Saturday night. It came quick enough and we had the oven pre-heated, so it only took 10 minutes to have it our plates, which was just enough time to devour the salad. Overall, the quality of the pizza is very good, although the salad was just average. The bonus, which we unfortunately did not take advantage of, is that you can also have beer or wine delivered — this must be for the exceptionally lazy(or hungover or mid-booty call) that cannot wander down Market or 15th to one of a million stores that sell the same beer for half the price :)

I really wanted this to be good! I really did. The plus side, service was extremely quick. My pizza was ready in under ten minutes and the counter people were wonderfully pleasant and upbeat. Unfortunately, I’m gluten intolerant and chose their gluten-free crust. I agree with the previous review stating that the crust had no flavor and was quite bland. The herbs and cheese on top were great, but the crust REALLY needs boost. I hear their regular crust pizza’s are phenomenal, though…

Oh my! This is good pizza. I took advantage of their $ 33 Winter special which includes any pizza + any salad and a bottle of wine(or six-pack of brew). It’s quite a deal and it’s quite a meal. Arugula Patch pizza was flavorful, fresh, and filling on a thin, crispy crust. Ironman spinach salad was plentiful and light. Wine was very drinkable. Service was very friendly and knowledgeable. Décor is minimal and features a brilliantly simple living wall of plants. Zaw is a great experience and a great dinner!

Another pizza place in Ballard? You’ve got to be kidding me… right? No. There is a new pizza kid in town, and they have a great niche. Yes, it’s take and bake, but this is about as far as you can get from Papa Murphy’s! Easy as pie(ha) to order, the folks working the Ballard Zaw were professional and friendly — and explained exactly how to bake the pizza resulting in pizza perfection. The space they have is awesome — with wine proudly displayed in wooden wine shelves, plants adorning the walls — VERY aesthetically pleasing. Although I didn’t choose to try their ample variety of beer or wine, I think it’s a great idea to be able to pick up pizza AND beer all in one stop! On to the pizza… we ordered the ‘Shroom Fest pizza and an Ironman Salad. The pizza was VERY rich from the mushrooms — but delicious. I could only eat two pieces, despite the fact the pizza crust is pretty thin. The salad was a spinach salad, with from-scratch dressing. Lots of good toppings! I think I would prefer the dressing to have been a little lighter, but objectively, it was still good dressing. I would definitely encourage people to try the pizza here, it’s not gloppy with toppings or sauce, and the crust is relatively thin, but not dry. It feels artisan without overdoing it… and is big on flavor. Frankly, I’m glad I have a local alternative to Freschetta.

As Ballard stretches out to become yet another version… a delightful and new pizza spot opens. On our very first snowy evening of «Winter Storm 2008» I ventured into Zaw initially pulled in by this marvelous wall of greenery. The fellas behind the counter were so sweet and friendly all the while, informing us about the locally sourced and/or organic ingredients and the made from scratch dough. So. what could I do I got a Veggie Supreme, I think it was. Now keep in mind this pizza is take and bake but in an envirothoughtful(yeah I made up that word) way utilizing minimal packaging. The best part; you simply slip the pizza which rests on a piece of parchment onto your oven rack and viola! Pizza with such bright, true flavors you will swear virgins prepared it. I can confirm nothing on the virgin front but kids love this pizza too. I declare Zaw my new pizza spot forever more! Oh and I am aching to munch on one of their salads.
