Great little neighborhood spot with VERY good coffee roasted on site. I’d be hard pressed to find a better espresso drink in the south end. Their take away beans are one of my favorites for at-home french press brewing. Plus the owner is very active in helping to bring up this little stretch of Rainier.

It has a cool atmosphere, lots of windows to get natural light, along with a Parklet outside and outdoor seating. The table space inside is small and limited. The Latte and food menu is good, but limited.

This is our neighborhood coffee shop, and we are boarder line obsessed with them. They roast their own coffee, making the neighborhood smell DELICIOUS over the weekends. The staff is adorable and friendly, and you BETTERTIPTHEM(a dollar per drink, just like your bartender — this is Seattle after all)! They let us walk our feral cat child to the shop, and indulge her erratic mood swings. Basically, the most successful relationships I’ve had are those with my baristas, and I am so stoked to have found an amazing place like Tin Umbrella to get my caffeine fix. Xoxoxox

Good service; friendly people for the most part. The atmosphere is sort of cozy and hippie-ish in a very fun way. I’d say the coffee itself is about 3.5−4 stars. The house espresso doesn’t really play well with milk; I would prefer it as an americano. The baristas seem to lack consistency with respect to espresso or milk. Some are really good, others just arent. They keep the drip in the pump pots pretty fresh most of the time, which is adequately dosed. Pour overs are not available, which is a down side. Baked goods are brought in from an outside bakery. I’ve had a few muffins and they aren’t bad. Fresh roasted whole bean is available for purchase for a reasonable price. A decent substitute for a high end roaster if you’re on a budget.

Some of the best coffee in town, in a lovely locally-owned coffee shop(seriously! Joya lives in the neighborhood and actively supports local community causes/events!). Their mochas are that rare, perfect balance of rich and bittersweet, that never tips into too rich or too sweet. Real chocolate. No syrupy stuff. Lots of local crafts available for sale, including soaps and lip balm that use coffee grounds and reduce their waste, and coffee-related gear like cup-holders for bikes(I think those are also locally made!). And darn near everything is either washable(real plates & cutlery!) or compostable. They’ve thought of everything — but anything they haven’t, they love to hear about from their customer/neighbors. Super friendly. Walking into Tin Umbrella is always a relaxing pleasure. One of our Hillman City gems.

A local coffee shop is a Seattle staple, and I feel so lucky to live next to this one. The baristas are all extremely well trained and super friendly. And they roast their own coffee! I pop in almost daily for a cup of coffee, and they have really tasty hot breakfast tacos that are an excellent breakfast if I don’t give myself enough time in the morning. The best part though is the community of people I’ve met frequenting the Tin Umbrella. I feel like I’ve met half my neighborhood here!

99% sure this place gave me food poisoning. I shall never eat another breakfast taco again. I messaged the business about the food poisoning but they never responded, so I felt a negative feedback was in order. I got violently and suddenly ill a few hours after eating a breakfast taco. Ruined my whole weekend! Not cool. Originally I went here because a website told me it was kid friendly. I was thinking a play area or something but all I saw was a small box of old books behind the door and they gave my daughter a sticker when we paid. Big whoop? Also I do not care for the«bagel bar» or whatever you want to call it. If I am coming in with a kid and want to order her a bagel, I do not want to then have to slice, toast, and butter it. I can do that at home for much cheaper. Also all the tables were full so we had to wait till someone left and then we still had to share a table with some people who were in a work meeting of some sort. I’m sorry but all this is the very definition of NOT kid friendly at all.

Probably my favorite little coffee roaster in Seattle. Have been there maybe 10-ish times now, and each time it feels like walking into a cozy, light-filled, neighborhood hangout spot. I love that they work with and promote so many different vendors of every ethnicity and background, bringing that South Seattle vibe to the forefront. The breakfast tacos are delicious! The owner’s lived in Hillman City for over 15 years, so it’s great that she understands the area and how critical community is to everyone in the area. Seeing the owners of Big Chickie and Jacob Willard’s(two other great Hillman City businesses) hanging out there is pretty rad and a reminder of why I love living down here in the first place. Plus, they’re going to have one of the very first parklets to be built in South Seattle, which I love seeing around the city at other cafes, bars, and restaurants. Wins all around for me.

LOVE this place. Cute little coffee shop with an amazing owner. Coffee is usually pretty tasty. Definitely depends on the barista. Really great atmosphere though and like I mentioned before, the owner is absolutely pleasant! If you’re in the south Seattle area and looking for a good cup of Joe, stop by tin umbrella!

+ Friendly, personal atmosphere +/-One barista is super sweet, the other seems to hate her job. +/-Coffee is not bad. +They open early. — They close at 2pm! — Their veggie wrap was stale and gnarly. It’s a cute little coffee corner, but certainly not my favorite.

I love this place! Their vanilla lattes and Italian sodas are awesome! Their quick and efficient! And it’s close and convenient to work. They also have punch cards that you can keep at the store rather than losing it in your wallet.

I frequent a few coffee shops in the south end(Empire, The Station, Café Vita…) and this is probably middle-lower end of my list. + Based on coffee alone I’d give Tin Umbrella 3 stars Noteworthy: — Service has generally been pretty slow almost every time I’ve come here(12+ visits or so) + Eco friendly products — Straws always melt in the hot beverages — Leaks/drips always through the seams or lids(I know it’s just an annoying thing that happens to probably only me) + Spacious + Clean + Friendly staff * Hit or miss on ambiance — sometimes parents&kids or it can be quiet enough where work or studying can get done * Tons of free street parking

I love Tin Umbrella. I’m a big fan of the coffee they brew and I also love all the little snacks they stock. Be sure to try the scones with some jam. Yum. During the summer I typically get my growler filled with their cold brew. It’s my favorite. Until then I content myself with their brewed coffees. The staff are beyond awesome and are always so welcoming, It’s a great spot to go and hang out for a couple hours.

Tin Umbrella is such a sunny spot in community. The space is beautiful, the coffee is tasty and the staff are very kind and always so thankful for our business. I am really grateful they are a part of our neighborhood.

Not exactly what I was hoping for. The coffee was fine and the barista was just fine. Not super friendly but not unfriendly. What I didn’t like was the crowd. Unfriendly and even a bit of judgmental talk about a mother who’s child knocked over a book at his table while she ordered. For the price of my coffee I was expecting something really good but it was kind of flat, nothing special at all. Seems also to be a product of gentrification. It has some very odd indi music playing very loudly when I was there and despite being in a neighborhood mostly filled with people of color, it seemed that only white people from a few neighborhoods over came there. They did have a lot of merchandise: shirts, caps, cups, that sort of thing. Don’t get me wrong, this is not to say that I disliked the place. It was just fine. I just wasn’t blown away by it. Now the coffee wasn’t the best I’ve had but if I was near by, I’d have it again. Maybe not that same order(Americano) because it seemed overpriced, but if i was there, sure. I’d imagine that their whole been coffee would be good in a french press.

Good coffee, roasted onsite. Their chai is also good, nice balance of spices. Nice people. The owner is lovely and very friendly. The décor is welcoming, bright, and open with large communal tables. They rotate art displays from local people. Their food and pastry selection are mostly brought in. If the eats were better, my rating might be a 5-star. They have a good tea selection. Parking can be tough. And now there is a pet supply store next door, so I have even more reason to come.

Another great addition to Hillman City! Tin Umbrella is a casual and laid-back, friendly, neighborhood café. The employees are so nice and warm – they always greet everyone with a big smile and engage in sincere conversation. They take pride in their coffee, their space, and have really embraced this neighborhood. My drink of choice is either a hazelnut or vanilla latte. It’s so smooth and flavorful without being overly sweet. You can get it in a mug or in a compostable to-go cup. There are also dairy-free options for those who prefer/need that. Yes, so it is a little pricier than, say, a certain evil corporate empire, but to me, it is worth it for the quality that I always get.(By the way, the largest soy vanilla latte would be a bit over $ 5 pre-tax, not $ 7.) And the best part is, I am supporting a local business! I love that there are lots of outlets, and the wifi is free and fast. Each time I have been here, it is full of patrons; people are so nice about sharing tables, and I haven’t had trouble getting work done in my own space. I am looking forward to the day that they extend their business hours and offer more pastries!
