Nina Bird has changed my hair game, and I won’t be going to anyone else.
I’ve always kept my hair long because I have zero skills when it comes to hair. I usually either tie it into a topknot or leave it down. My dream, however, has always been to have a nice, easy maintenance lob/​bob that would flatter my face. In the past, I’d tried a few short haircuts, only to be sorely disappointed as my locks decided to float up into a giant mushroom puff. Y’all know what I’m talking about.
Well, Nina has pulled some hardcore magic from her arsenal, and now I have the most flattering and easy-​to-​maintain bob EVER. It’s such a good cut that I don’t think I’ll ever go back to my long hair ever again. Even my husband, who usually prefers my hair longer, adores the new short-​ish style I’m rocking these days.
Sidenote: Although I’ve never personally experienced Stephanie’s haircut myself, she cuts/​styles my sister’s partner’s hair, and he always ends up looking like a Filson model (oh, he’d be so mortified if he read my review), so I can also confidently state that she’s just as
as Nina is.
Don’t ever leave us, Spectrum House. You guys are brilliant, and we need independent, brilliant shops like S.H. to remain in Seattle.

I’m a very predictable, safe-​is-​better-​than-​risk kind of person. So, I timidly told Nina I wanted to go with an angle cut… but to please make it a safe angle cut.
She spent time with my hair, explaining what she was doing, snipping away with her magic tools. She made me feel comfortable and didn’t yammer away but wasn’t creepy quiet either. I know, I’m a jerk — I don’t like talking a lot while getting my hair cut.
When Nina was done, I was near tears. She gave me an edgy cut that worked really well with my face shape. I hadn’t felt that good about a hair cut in YEARS. I’ve been singing her praises since.
Also, my hair grew out really well. Nina provides free clean-​up cuts, which I totally appreciate.
I’m going back to Nina for an even more dramatic (for me, anyway!) cut in a month. I’m super excited to have her work her magic again!

Nina Bird gives a great haircut! The service I always receive at Spectrum House is fantastic. The salon has a great comfortable but edgy vibe sprinkled with an additional dash of fun.

I have updated my review of Spectrum House. Though my experience was frustrating, all of the staff here were really nice and the salon manager did graciously reach out to make things right. Thank you Nina:) They seem to have plenty of other customers who have been quite happy.

Everyone that works here is really helpful and friendly. I personally go to have my hair cut and my beard styled. Stephanie is my stylist and she is AMAZING! I am almost sad I don’t have more and longer hair so she can do something awesome with it! But I have dubbed her the beard whisperer. If you are looking for a stylist in the South Seattle Area she is the one to see!

Absolutely love everything about the salon, from the atmosphere to the stylists! Karol is a genius when it comes to hair and can complete any look with perfection. She listens and understands exactly what you want done and masters the look. From color to cut and everything in between, I would never see another stylist. I absolutely recommend her for any look that you are going for. Such a great location and wonderful place!!!

I have been trying out different places in Seattle to get my hair cut and I finally think I found my regular place. Today I had Stephanie cut my hair and she absolutely nailed the hair style I was going for. I couldn’t be happier with my cut. The only downside to spectrum is the price for a mens cut. With that said, I would way rather pay the local company the extra few bucks instead of giving it to a large chain like Great Clips. Also they do neck maintenance for free in between regular cuts. I can’t wait to go back again.

I came in with a crazy mess of like 3 different hair cuts in one with the goal of decreasing the hair confusion without loosing too much. Stephanie really listened to what I wanted and fixed my hot mess. She pretty much read my mind and recommended getting me back to my natural color on my ends while I am growing out my natural color. I came back a week for the Fabuloso Pro Color Intensifier happy hour. My hair is looking fantastic and I love the color with out chemical. They sent me off with a bottle of conditioner and Fabuloso pro color. I have had tints before and they wash out after a week. So this is such a new amazing product that they gave me to keep my color just as fantastic as the day it was done. Stephanie and Nina both were amazingly helpful. I highly recommend this shop. Not only do they offer great hair services and products but they have a little shop in the front It is full of fun things from local artists!

Karol is a genius! I love her H/​Cs! She takes what I say and turns it into hair magic. I have gotten so many compliments on her work! Nina is super friendly. The salon is like some fun fantastic evolving alternate reality. I am so glad I found them and didn’t have to shave my head in despair at ever getting a good haircut!

Spectrum House is run by some talented local women. In addition to haircuts and color for men & women, they offer make-​up & photography shoots. They sell & support local artists with a small retail section with clothes, shoes, jewelry & of course art.
Carol can make a perfect match to any color. Nina will teach you about your hair & help you reach any reasonable goal for your hair while keeping it healthy & beautiful.
You cannot go wrong here. Support your community, local business women & look fabulous without emptying your wallet.

I had a fantastic experience at Spectrum House. Nina was great at explaining not only the style she thought would be a good fit for my hair and my minimal fuss attitude, but also about what she was doing as she cut my hair. This was good because as she suspected I had never had a «dry haircut.» She also took the time to talk with me about several ways that I could style my new cut depending on the look I am going for. I will definitely be back.
Oh! they also do FREE touch up cuts. How great is that!

kurstin has been my husband’s stylist for almost 5 years and does an amazing job on his thick, wavy hair. i started seeing her about 2 years ago. she is a master with my curls! she totally gets it when i need a change and then when i’m growing my hair back out from said change. having fine, curly hair herself, she TOTALLY gets my hair. we’ve followed her all over to her now 3^rd salon and won’t go to anyone else.

Great spot for haircut. I was able to call midday and schedule an appointment with Nina within the hour. She took good care of me and kept me entertained with lots of interesting info about the unique space they operate the business out of as well as the Georgetown neighborhood in general. Cut and wash was $ 30.

I had one of my best friends cut and colored my hair for years and it was amazing. When she decided to stop being a stylist, I was totally bummed and did not get my haircut for a LONG time and it was in bad shape. I went to Nina because she and the co-​owner/​photographer are the wife and good friend of a friend I regularly see at pub trivia and he mentioned that they were opening a salon/​photography studio (slight bias on my part and what a brilliant idea). The first time I ever actually met Nina was for a haircut and I was immediately comfortable around her and almost fell asleep because getting my haircut was super relazing. She is really sweet, genuine and easy to be around. She cut my hair exactly how I wanted and did an amazing job. I was very excited and relieved to find a new stylist and have been going there for months. I needed a professional head shot for my new job, and most places I looked at charged at least $ 80. Spectrum House charges $ 35 and Fedora the photographer is really talented. Today I got my haircut and then got my picture taken and it was so fun! Fedora is hilarious and showed me the pictures we took as we went.

This place is a go! It was a pleasurable experience from beginning to end. My cut was with Nina, and she was very professional and personable, and really took the time to listen to what I wanted done. The shop itself is pretty cool. Old machine shop converted to a salon. I would highly recommend this place!
