Safeway has a mixed reputation, but this West Seattle location looks and feels new. The large veggie section has a lot of organic options, on par with other markets in the area. One aisle has a long row of different varieties of trail mix in dispensers, great for stocking up before a hike or road trip. Meat and seafood is fresh, and the butchers are helpful with tips on cooking time and techniques. The wine section is larger than some wine stores, with the high-end wines and liquors under lock and key and requiring staff assistance. Washington wines are often on sale and very affordable. There’s a large parking lot that fills up quickly, and a roof-top parking deck that no one seems to use. Park there for easy in and out, and you may be the only ones. Panhandlers occasionally hang out by the doors. They seem harmless enough, but you’re probably going to be asked for spare change in/out of the store. Will def return.

This is my neighborhood grocery store. Although the parking is kind of a mess, and they may not always have the selection or specialty items I’m looking for, the prices are typically reasonable. The customer service here is above and beyond! They treat me like they know me. I went shopping last night and the cat food didn’t make it home :(. I went back today and even though the bag wasn’t at the counter, they gave me a new bag anyway. Made my day!
