Absolute worst service ever, if you are on his good side, you might receive bad service at best, he never has a smile on his face and is rarely kind to people. I’ve had both halfway decent experiences as well as plenty of horrible experiences. Of course it’s great to have a convenience store on Alki, but with someone who is so miserable with life running the store, it’s a miracle he is still open. I understand he has to deal with bad situations involving shop-lifting, but that’s a part of life, we all deal with less than desirable experiences with our careers, but if you can’t put a smile on your face, and offer great customer service, you are in the wrong line of work.

Worst service ever! Put a damn smile on your face and your business might do a bit better, and make people want to come back.

I love that we have a market on Alki! I live around the corner. I am frustrated by how much rudeness and shoplifting this store owner has to put up with. I’m not surprised he is rude to people who are rude to him. Stop and chat some time. I gave it a four star because the prices are a little high but then they are high at 7 – 11 too. If you want cheaper get in your car and go up the hill to a grocery store. You pay for convenience. Just sayin …

By far the rudest/inconsiderate man I have ever met. I have never gotten a hello when walking In and he consistently is on the phone-if at the front desk at all. I struggle to make it in the door holding a baby, and with a stroller and all he does is stare, not offer to hold open the door even if he is right by it. The first time I came here, I wanted to get m&ms for the little boy I nanny. I had a $ 20. The little boy was so excited to get his m&ms($ 2). When we got to the register, the man yelled«I have no change, give me small bill». When I told him I didn’t have any small bills, he put the m&ms back and told me to leave because he had no change. Who doesn’t have change at a market? So we left. I came in another time with exact change. He tried to tell me it was a dollar more, and I had to fight with him and show him the price because he insisted on charging me one dollar more. When I showed him the box, he finally let up. For some crazy reason, I came in today, and he was on the phone, and yelled at me I have to buy $ 10 worth to use debt. He pointed at the sign and went back to his phone. I hope this business’s gets shut down. DONTGOHERE. Drive two minutes to Safeway or ANY other store!

I’ve always bought beer here even tho its overpriced. Last time I went in there to buy a can it was $ 3.06. I was 6 cents short so I said he can run my card and charge me $ 3.56 for a beer that’s $ 2.18 at the chevron up the hill. He refused. I told him off after living down here for three years. Screw that owner, I’ll never go back and its been a few months since I’ve been there. All my friends hate this overpriced store too.

There’s a lot of extra fees and the service is unfriendly. The beers are mislabeled in price and they charge extra for credit cards without telling you. Even if you’re okay paying cash after they overcharge you, if you ask about it, they’ll deny you the sale for bringing it up. Very poor service, but they can get away with it because they’re right there on the beach. Take your business elsewhere where they’re actually cool to people. This is a first…

We also live right around the corner … And go here occasionally. Yes, it is pricy. It’s a convenience store! You pay for the convince! They have a large selection on everything. We were there last night … $ 9.50 spent. He didn’t charge us any extra for not spending 10.00. We will continue to shop there for last minute noodles, chips and dip, beer, ice cream, and candy. Also, if your going to spend extra on items at 7 – 11 up the hill. Walk your ass over to Safeway and spend even less if you are that worries about it.

Just walk in to buy a water and see about a bathroom and the man said«we have no bathrooms, I’ve never seen your god damn face before!!» So took that as a no and left with no water and confused. Wouldn’t give that store the time of day with so much other beauty around it!

As an Alki resident I have to say I’m a fan of Alki Urban Market. It’s just a short walk from my apartment and I’m pretty surprised with the things I’ve purchased from here. I pretty much view it as a nicer convenience store and would rather come here than a 7 – 11. Things I’ve found: –Frozen food: they have a surprising selection that includes organic items! –Wine: Alki Urban Market probably excels in wine. They have a ton of it and I can always find one or two(or ten) bottles that I want. The price mark up is probably the highest for their alcohol, but for convenience I don’t mind. If wine doesn’t appeal to you they also have beer. –Basic pantry items: SALT! One day I ran out of salt and while dining next door I popped in, hoping they’d have some. They did! They also had a surprisingly nice selection of canned beans, which I needed to make hummus(yeah, I know, cooking dried beans is better but I was lazy). –Snacks: chips, candy, random junk food… they’ve got it! –Miscellaneous: aspirin, lotion, condoms, charcoal… they’ve got it! If you live in walking distance or are simply visiting Alki Beach you should check it out. Grab a sandwich and some booze and enjoy while sitting on the beach and admiring the view!

If I could give less than one star I would. Everything in the store is 2 to 3 times what you would pay at other(already expensive) convienience stores. To top it off it’s always the same perpetually grumpy man running the store. He is rude, unhelpful, and just one of the least pleasent human beings I have ever had the displeasure to meet. They only accept credit cards for orders over $ 10, and then charge you a $ 1.50 surcharge. The only thing the place has going for it is location. After several unpleasent, expensive visits, I now believe it is worth the time to walk half an hour to the 7 – 11 up the hill.

I live right around the corner and pop in occasionally for odds & ends if I don’t feel like driving up the hill to the MM or Safeway. Some of the reviews on here just sound crazy. I’ve never seen or heard Yung ever yell at anyone and this winter a young lady was in there buying fireplace logs(They apparently had just moved into the area and didn’t have everything set up yet) and Yung gave her two logs for free! I can’t imagine him yelling at anyone like others have described. He’s certainly not going to greet you at the door with a smile and a «welcome» or anything but I’ve always been able to chat with him a little during my checkout and it’s always been a pleasant experience that I’ve never minded.

J went into this market for a soda. At first she suspected the store was empty. Apparently he was on the floor and he stood when she approached. He eyed the can and spoke, «One dollar.» She gave him a $ 20 bill and he returned $ 18 dollars and some odd change. Glancing at the cash register, the number read $ 18.36. J asked him how much the tax was. The man put his elbow on the counter… and stared at her. She made an attempt at small talk to see if she could get his man to speak, but he continued to stare mutely until she finally decided to leave upon which he still made no comment. Creepy! Now officially too scared to enter this business.

If I could give this place less than one star, I would. When we moved back to Alki, I was really excited to see a small market had reopened and was really cheering the owners… until I met them. We’ve been in there a total of 5 times. The first time, the owner was asleep on his stool and really sullen when I asked to check out. I thought what long hours he must be working and dismissed it when he barked at me the next too times I was in there. I had heard other stories from folks about his rudeness, but thought that I would just let it go. Then today, I asked my husband to run over there to pick up two things, which he did. He says that when he went to check out he noticed that the total was more than the items. He asked why and the guy said that there was a surcharge for using a credit card. My husband looked around to see if he’d missed a sign saying as much. He told the guy that you have to post a note to tell folks that if you were going to do that and that if he;d known, he’d have paid with cash.(No problem if it had been posted and just not charged without stating why.) The owner was angry to be questioned and said«Fine, then leave.» So my husband said never mind, he wasn’t going to buy anything and he’d like his money back. The owner then grew irate, almost threw the money at him and actually yelled«F*** off and you never come back in to my store again!» Bizarre! Normally, I would feel some kind of sympathy towards such a strange reaction(and in a business that is supposed to be about the customer to some extent) but not today. How incredibly rude a man! I guess I should be asking«what makes a man so bitter and explosive.» but today I am just mad. Good luck…

It’s not the Alki Market but it works in a pinch. They have a nice small selection of items from frozen organic pizza to wine to tasty gelato to freshly made sandwiches to delicious truffles to juice to charcoal to suntan lotion to chips to ice cream treats. Plus they have some more gourmet items like olives and cheeses and I can’t remember the one that made me laugh but they have that too. If you’re on Alki please stop in and get something, yes I know it’s expensive and over priced but it’s just what I need down there and I don’t want it to close because if it closes and I need some milk or eggs I will have to go all the way up the hill to Safeway, and I hate doing that.
