Unfortunately Halo has been closed for over a year. The Monday night salsa practica has moved to Century Ballroom’s East Hall(7:30−11pm, $ 7 cover). Same mix of people– mostly beginners early in the night, more advanced dancers arrive after 9pm. Music is often slower beat, practice-caliber but there are a few guest DJ’s each month who are also salsa dancers. Here’s a list of current salsa venues and info maintained by regular dancers:

Pretty cool spot to go salsa dancing. They have other types of events here as well as their biggest location a few blocks up called Century Ballroom. A must try on a Friday night! Don’t wear heels, but something comfy to dance in and they rent shoes out if you wear street shoes which are a no-no!

Great place to practice for the bigger Century Ballroom. Hot, sweaty, and packed at times, this spot is the training grounds for many potential nights of the usual meat market at CB. They need to at least sell some bottled water though… I felt like I was back in high school each time I went into the hall for the water fountain. Oh, they let«youngsters» in as it’s not a 21+ club… you have been warned gentlemen. Great place to learn salsa lessons.

Fun swing dance with a mix of east coast, Lindy hop and jitterbug. There are a few really good dancers but it’s mostly beginner and intermediate folks. A fun, energetic lesson is available and included in the $ 5 entry fee if you want. Nice dance floor but no refreshments, and the one drinking fountain is a ways down the twisting hallway — the line for it was far longer than for either of the adjacent restrooms.

Overall, I’m satisfied with HaLo; about what I’d expected. I went with a friend of mine, her friend, and all of us were new, zero-experience swing dancers. Well, not quite, I watched a YouTube video before I went so I didn’t look too bad, haha. Anyhow, parking was a little difficult to find, there’s little lot parking, and almost exclusively street parking. It’s free after 8pm, for the record. I can’t blame the business though, parking’s sorta outta their control. So come a little early. The business itself is located on top of the bridal shop, and the door on the left leads up to it. Not too hard to figure out, they put out an A-board sign, so kudos to them. The price for admission is $ 5, which seems fair enough. Less than a movie, that’s for sure. :) The night began with a quick swing lesson, teaching the basic steps, and some extras. Cool, so now I actually can dance a little bit, haha. Then, at 8:45, they cut you loose, and you can swing your little butt off until 11:30. The floors are nice, though you’ll have to watch out for the supports. Those are easy to swing into. The fans going help to air the place, though they might consider getting more. I just danced under the air conditioner; so refreshing. Most of the other swingers, nah that sounds dirty. Most of the other *dancers* are college age students, with some older couples. It’s intimidating in the beginning to ask people to dance, but don’t be afraid. I was only rejected once, because it was another guy. I could’ve sworn he looked gay. Anyhow, everyone’s helpful, even for beginners. It was definitely nice to have that. :) Overall, a nice place to spend a night, dancing and socializing!

This is a great venue for salsa dancing. I went when I lived in Seattle and still go whenever I’m in town(most recently, a few weeks ago). Upsides: fun, friendly crowd — good mix of skill levels; great hardwood floor; mirrored practice area for reviewing new moves; hip location on Capitol Hill; frequent-dancer punch card; dedicated bachata night! Downsides: gets *really* hot — there are a few big fans, but they only help if you’re standing or dancing right in front of them; parking can be tricky

Hello Seattle Salsa Dancers =] I was able to get my salsa dancing on at Halo while visiting Seattle for vacation. Came here on May 31, 2010. A great place to practice Salsa on a Monday night. If I can remember… it was around a $ 5 cover charge. big dance floor and tons of people to dance with. nothing fancy… but the space works. Street parking. –1 star because parking was horrible. Seattle has a pretty big salsa community. If you’re in Seattle and love Salsa… come here Monday nights for salsa dancing!

I went here to practice my salsa for the past 2 Monday nights. This is a fun place for new salseros y salseras to work on moves. It’s a less intimidating environment than some places around town like Triple Door, however, it’s a non-alcoholic area and the atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired. I have mixed feelings about the place. Part of me enjoys the informal nature of it all. Another part yearns for the live band and the rhythm that you can feel at a place like the Triple Door. But, at least you know you won’t get hurt by an unpredictable tab! On the positive side as well, you can go early and leave early. Classes start around 7 or 7:30 pm and the dance goes beyond that. Going to Six Arms for a beer with a buddy and then heading to Halo for some dancing made for a pretty nice night, and I slept well.

The first impression of HaLo result from the registration girl NOT the instructors. Her attitude was not welcoming nor helpful. Needless to say, I will not return to any HaLo classes nor recommend them. There are plenty of great instructors in Seattle.

I took the Bachata 5 week series class here with Deron and Alison I believe were the instructors, it was a small class but learned a lot and its really fun, I recommend people try bachata, its such a beautiful sexy yet fun dance, you’ll be amazed at how fun you’re having at the end when you learn all the twirls and moves

Maybe it’s because I love getting dressed up and if I wanted to practice I would practice alone with my dance partner. Halo is not my idea of a night out nor a practice. It’s hot, small, bright lights, lots of people, no privacy for messing up or doing tricks. It’s a great idea for those who are beginning and want to meet new people to practice with and actually hold a conversation with. But for me I’d rather skip dancing there on my Monday evenings.

Surprised that this space hasn’t been Unilocaled yet. So, Halo is a dance studio connected with the more well-known Century Ballroom a few blocks away. I made it here on a Monday night for one of their Salsa Practicas. These run from 7:30 — 11:00pm. Apparently they have a class at 7:30(last night it was a footwork class), but I ended up missing the class. Getting in is $ 6 for general admission, and $ 4 for people taking classes through Century. The studio is huge, and there had to be 100+ people there. The music was pretty good, although the volume was a little low for a few songs. Basically, this is a nice place to go and practice your salsa moves. It’s not quite as intimidating as going out to a salsa club, well, I was a little intimidated, because there were some great dancers, and I’m still to shy to get get out there. There were quite a few more guys than girls there, so the girls had the pick of the herd. Oh, and there is also a nice view of the downtown from the western windows of the space.
