Dr. Grenell recently did a cognitive abilities test on my 4 year old son. I would not hesitate to refer other parents to take their children to see him! The office was warm, friendly and comfortable. Yes, it is adult-oriented as others have mentioned, but I felt this helped my child focus on Dr. Grenell and the tests that were being performed. Dr. Grenell did a great job making my child feel comfortable and confident during the testing process. My son really liked the Dr. and he really enjoyed the tests! I really liked the Dr. as well. I found him personal, easy to talk to and knowledgeable.

I would not hesitate to recommend Gary Grenell for psychometric testing, or for psychotherapy, and I do send people his way. They always remark on how personable, kind, and warm he is. They have also remarked on what a great space he has created for clients. Gary is at the top of his field, he is a well regarded teacher, has written books and has a thriving practice, and he clearly loves his profession and cares about his clients. He is the kind of person you wish was your neighbor or a friend. He has a witty and gentle personality, and you feel immediately comfortable in his company. The feedback from the people I have sent his way has been five stars.

To be clear: this review is only about Dr. Grenell’s psychometric testing, not his psychotherapy. I had my daughter’s cognitive abilities retest for SPS’s academically gifted program done by Dr. Grenell, and I was extremely disappointed. When we arrived at his office I was surprised how adult-oriented it was. There was nothing there at all that would help make a nervous kid more comfortable. He had a flimsy card table and an uncomfortable metal chair set up for the testing. His way of «warming up» my nervous 6-year old was by telling her she looked like Twiggy… What 6-year old is going to get that reference, let alone feel more comfortable by it? She later described him as being«scary,» and she would barely interact with him during the test. In his report he said her speech was«unproductive,» rather than the obvious fact that she was uncomfortable talking to him. Seriously, if you are going to work with children you need to be able to relate to them. He also administered the WISC(a much, much harder test for young children) instead of the WPPSI(even though she was still young enough for the WPPSI) because that is what he said the school district required, but when I specifically asked the advanced learning office about it later they said they would have taken the WPPSI. Bottom line: if your child is at all uncomfortable around strangers or in strange, adult-oriented situations, find a different psychologist.

A very good doctor to go to. I saw him for many many years, and i miss him now. If you suffer from any mental issues really, he is the one that you should go to. Had i not found him, i might not be where i am at now. Thank you dr. Grenell for the many years of help.
