The rents here are below market, but mine has been raised 25 percent this year. There is no onsite management. Cleaning of the common areas is infrequent at best. This building has 20 two-bedroom apartments and 41-bedrooms, but only two washers and two dryers in a tiny room that doesn’t even have a counter. The elevator often breaks down. I do not always get responses to maintenance requests. There is a trash can for junk mail by the mailboxes that has a battery operated lid. The battery died over a year ago and has not been replaced and the lid does not open without the battery. It’s a minor thing, but just goes to show that the service is so crappy here that we can’t even have a working garbage can. The water cost is outrageous — there is no submetering, so the cost is divided between all tenants, and that includes endless watering of a tiny garden out front. I am a single person and I paid over $ 150 for wsg last month. If you do not live alone, you will pay that amount per person. This building is also very noisy. I have occasionally had trouble with very loud neighbors(and no help from the management), but mostly the problem is the trains, since this building is directly across from the train yard. They work on the trains in the middle of the night and the noise can be very loud and even shake the building. The windows were replaced a few years ago, and that improved things(except when you open them in the summer), but the noise is still loud even with the windows closed. In the summer there is loud live music late at night — it comes from somewhere outside of the building.
