Best chicken and waffles around. In a crowded space, Fat’s shines. Chicken and waffles is very trendy and there’s quite a few offerings in the area. Fat’s manages to edge out the local competition, hands down! The menu is very focused so there isn’t a whole lot of options, but what they do offer they execute well. My favorite is the chicken and waffles, the chicken is crispy on the outside and tender, moist on the inside. The waffles are thin, soft and dense. I think there’s cornmeal in them, but not sure. The service is friendly and prompt, but seating is limited so make sure to get there early! The prices and portions are just right, can’t complain at all. The Happy Hour menu items look great, definitely coming back to try them!

There are no words to describe the deliciousness that’s is this place. We got there 10 minutes before opening and the lady let us in. Within 15 minutes of them being opening the restaurant was 90 percent full. They have a wide variety of cocktails and drinks to choose from. We ordered the Chicken and Waffles with a side of red beans and rice. I can’t express into words how amazing everything tasted. I was blown away by the flavors in the chicken and the vanilla flavoring in the waffles. The only thing that could have been it better was if I had another stomach and could eat another round of everything on the menu. Prices are very reasonable. For the two of us it was $ 35 bucks. I should mention that this was one of the cleanest places I have been the restaurant was spotless, not a thing out of place. The staff was awesome. Thanks so much. Can’t wait to come back!

Absolutely delicious. So glad this place is open! If you get here later in the morning there is usually a wait, but it’s highly worth it. Staff is so nice, food is perfect, and affordable. Will be coming back!

I was hopeful but man was I disappointed. :(I’m sorry to say it. The shrimp and grits was boring and lacked punch. The waffles were thin but way too dense. Not how I like my waffles. I prefer crunchy on the outside and soft inside… Good balance. The best part was the fried green tomatoes and fries but we can get fries just about anywhere. I just felt the meal was over priced for what we got. On the positive, customer service was good and the ambiance cute. They did forget a few requests and I had to go up and pay. Don’t believe there will be a next time for me.

AMAZING!!! Not living too far away from this restaurant could be pretty dangerous for us. We’ve passed by the restaurant since it opened so many times to what look like a packed restaurant and thought we should try it and this past weekend we finally did. Why did we wait so long to do so?!? First off, the restaurant is situated on a corner with cute but simple décor inside and out. We chose to sit at the window counter which offered great people watching during our meal. Service was friendly and prices are right. For our meals he got the fried chicken breast and waffles and I got the catfish plate with sides of fried green tomatoes and fried mushrooms. The catfish was super moist and the exterior was nice and crisp but held to the fish well. The seasoning on both the catfish and chicken were perfect. The chicken had just the right amount of salt and spice to contrast the sweetness of the waffles and syrup and was some of the most juicy chicken breast I’ve experienced. The waffles were cooked well as were the fried green tomatoes and mushrooms. The homemade tartar sauce and pimiento cheese spread were also the perfect compliments to my meal. And to wash down all of this greatness, their sweet tea is refreshing and done right. Really excited that we have this new(ish) restaurant in the neighborhood and definitely excited for our next visit back… which will be soon!

This is hands down the best brunch place in Seattle. I’m a strong believer in having the price match the quality and taste of the food. This place by far has the best ratio. Everything is $ 8 but you can pay extra for different add ins and what not. The eggs Benedict is pretty good here(I mean where else can you get an $ 8 eggs Benedict that tastes good??). I will say as a college student who doesn’t have a car, it’s kinda hard to bus here. But when my friends with cars are willing to go, it does have a lot of parking! There’s street and I believe restaurant parking. My friends mostly got the chicken and waffles. The chicken definitely does taste fresh and is really juicy. The waffles are thin and crispy(just the way I like them). But the portions aren’t amazingly huge. However, I don’t really eat really large portions to begin with so it’s not a problem. But if you’re willing to pay the money, you can definitely get more add ons to make it a bigger serving size.

If this wasn’t marketed as Southern comfort food, I would add a star. I’ve been eyeballing this place for a while on Unilocal and ubereats, and finally pulled the trigger. Had a crap day at work so I was really looking for comfort food. Ordered red beans and rice with a $ 5 side of chicken… sooo bummed. The red beans and rice were seriously bland, hardly any pork as listed, and the chicken was tiny and dry. Added a bunch of seasonings from my own fridge just to make it edible. So bland it could have been any base to start with. Will not order again. Not sure how this is considered comfort food. Booooo. :(

Yummmm-eeee! What a delicious and soulful experience! Ordered the shrimp and grits, and my friend had the chicken and waffles. Both dishes were full of thought and flavor. Hennessy butter for the waffle was to die for! Grits for shrimp and grits were the perfect texture! Thanks for the experience, will most definitely be back! PS – looking forward to the Louisiana Hot Sauce next time!

When I see Chicken & Waffles on a menu 2 things happen. 1. I order chicken & waffles. 2. I’m disappointed with the chicken, the waffles or usually both. Fat’s Fried Chicken & Waffles does chicken & waffles better than I’ve ever had. Considered separately, this was one of the best waffles and some of the best fried chicken out there. Let’s talk about that waffle. You get 2 thin, crispy(especially on the edges), and chewy waffles with simple whipped butter and maple syrup. They aren’t trying to trick you with some rosemary or sriracha syrup. Just a great waffle with the flavors your know from growing up. Everyone seems to do Belgian waffles with their chicken & waffles. This one is better. The fried chicken is on another level. I had the 2 drumsticks. Forget Ezell’s or Heaven Sent or whatever fried chicken joint is hot at the moment. This is what great fried chicken tastes like. Highly seasoned from the crust down through the meat. If you like your fried chicken moist, the drumstick was literally dripping juices. The biggest compliment I can give is that as I was finishing up my plate and completely stuffed, I was drooling over all the hot orders chicken and waffles coming out of the kitchen and thinking about what I would order next time. The restaurant interior is bright and tastefully decorated with a cool mural and photos. Really chill vibe with good music. They have both table seating and counter seating with one larger table suitable for up to maybe 8. Great laid back & friendly service and an extremely clean restaurant.

Lord have mercy. This place is grade A good eats for sure!!! Honestly sooooooooo delicious. I had the chicken and waffle and it was amazing. Also had a side of breakfast potatoes so simple yet so good. My boyfriend had the biscuit sandwich and that made me pass out of pure perfection of flavor! You must come here and have the brunch. Can’t wait to try lunch and dinner here!

Wow, if you ever have a craving for fried chicken or waffles, his is the place to be! Yummy! Came here on a Sunday night and there was a bit of a line but didn’t take any longer than 5 minutes to get seated. This place is small so if you come with a party larger than 6 it’ll be hard to be all seated together. Fried chicken, it was crispy on the outside and so MOIST(I know a lot of people who hate this word) inside and juicy and very well seasoned. Waffles are your average waffles but they do two thin ones instead of one thick one which was easier to eat with the chicken. I’m not a huge breast person but you can opt for the two legs which I like better(about that dark meat). Also got the fried green tomatoes and shrimp salad. The dressing on the salad was great, the seasoning on the shrimp was perfect and the fried green tomatoes were well seasoned. You can’t go wrong with that salad, I would get it again. Will need to come back and try the sides like greens, fried okra, grits… also saw their HH menu, it ends at 5:30PM but i’ll be willing to come out here just to try it(saw poutine on there)

I love chicken and waffles and this place is is really good. Nice thin crispy waffle, good crisp fried chicken, put some butter on that waffle, cut up with a piece of the fried chicken, pour the maple syrup and some hot sauce… DAMN!!! The waffle was just a little on the cold side otherwise I give the meal a 5. The woman working the lunch shift made the difference with service. She was a 10 so this pushed the meal over the top. Not many places especially near the central district where you are ordering a $ 8 meal will bring you water, make sure it is full, bring you your lunch, check in just to make sure you are good but not over the top, take your plate away when you are done, bring your check shortly after that, cash you out, and thank you for coming in. Bravo!!! Some high class restaurants should take note on what service is like. I was impressed. I need to go back and try the red beans and rice, the shrimp and grits and a few other things that looked really good. I decided to start out with what they are known for and I am excited to try the other dishes as the food is quite good. If you are looking for chicken and waffles this is one of the best I have had in Seattle. I have tried a few other places that were just kind of meh. This place is seriously legit. I came here on a whim because the BBQ place across the street was closed. Glad I did Fat’s is all in for me!!!

I had high hopes for Fats but here is my list of good and the bad when I went there for Sunday brunch : Good: The Chicken Biscuit Sandwich was really good. The chicken was very flavorful and moist with crisp batter. The waffle was decent with a boozy honey butter(?) The bad. The service: it seemed to be amateur hour on Sunday and here are the reasons. Seemed like there was one guy that knew somewhat how to serve. Not knowing how to give time estimates«we will let you know» Party Of One guest were not offered the bar seating area. They had to wait 15 mins before they got permission to sit at the open seating awhile the line started to build up. Poor sense of assigning tables. There were mostly large groups waiting to be seated. I had my credit card in hand(I was with my wife, so a table made for two) waiting to pay. then they gave a four person table for a Table of Two. A server went out of her way and called a FTM and his girlfriend Ladies when leaving. The FTM did not look pleased. Bearded with a backwards hat and all. Not knowing how to hustle and bus tables one item at a time and setting up the table one item at a time awhile there are over 20 people waiting to get seated. Infants are people too, they get a seat for their car carrier, they are not a service animal that gets put under the table. The server scooted the child’s car seat with their foot then bus over their head. Had to ask them for a seat and was reluctant to give one at first. Guest waiting 20 mins to pay awhile the staff talked and danced around awhile other guest waited to be seated. Giving large tables to a person with their party not present. Took their party 15 mins to arrive. Service not attentive, empty mugs of coffee that was served in a dirty mug. One refill of water. Had to get up to get additional silverware. Results The chicken was almost a redeemer but with all these problems and their ignorance of rudeness result of not having experience and staff that maybe service isn’t there thing. They need a veteran dinner waitress to show them how it’s done. Until then I would say Fats is a pass.

I have not had the pleasure of dining here yet, so when I saw that they were on the Über Eats menu, I jumped on the opportunity to try their chicken that I had hoped would fix my fried chicken craving. If you don’t know, Über Eats is an option on your Über app to order food from select local restaurants that delivers to you curbside at lunch time in the Seattle downtown area. Unfortunately, I was super disappointed and out $ 15 and some change. For that, I got two spicy, non-crispy, dry pieces of fried chicken breasts, a spoonful of collard greens, and maybe half a scoop of rice with maybe a tablespoon and a half of gravy delivered right to the front door of my work. Although the size of the chicken breasts were good, there wasn’t enough sides. I could have just downed them both in one bite, but I had to slowly pick at it so I wouldn’t run out before finishing my chicken. What was I thinking ordering fried chicken for delivery anyway? It always tastes better fresh and hot. Maybe the driver had something to do with it for not storing the hot foods effectively. Anyway, not doing Über Eats in a while. I’m giving it 3 stars for now since I have not dined there or had their waffles. I know. It’s an unfair review, but I will update my review when I have a real Fat’s Fried Chicken experience.

Came in here on Sunday for a late brunch and the place was still kind of packed. Every entrée on the menu is $ 8 and the portions are pretty big. I got the granola with Greek yogurt and season fruit compote. I wasn’t hungry enough to eat the other entrees but they all looked good. The granola was slightly toasted. The Greek yogurt was plain flavored. The fruit compote was nice. It was overly acidic or too sweet and added a good element to the granola. I did get a bite of the potatoes and they were really good. There was a good amount of garlic flavor and it wasn’t dry at all. I also got a small bite of the waffles. They were crispy and the vanilla? butter they use is really good. You honestly don’t need to add any syrup because the vanilla in the butter made it sweet enough. Brunch is cheap enough that I would keep coming back and the food is good too!

This place makes bomb fried chicken! I came here on a Friday night and it was fairly busy. We only had to wait about 5 mins as a table was planning to leave. This place is small, so if you plan to go with a large party, you might have to wait longer. My party ordered the fried chicken and waffles and the red beans and rice with catfish. The catfish cost extra. I personally loved the fried chicken and waffles dish. You get two fried chicken pieces and two waffles. Two people in my party shared the dish and it was nice that they were able to split the dish into two plates giving them each a chicken and waffle when it came out. The fried chicken was flavorful and crunchy and the inside was not dry. It didn’t even need ketchup(and I love ketchup). The waffles were pretty good as it had a nice crunch on the outside. If you love fluffy and thick waffles, then look somewhere else. The waffles here are thin which I don’t mind. The bf said he really liked the red beans and rice with catfish and would order again. Overall, this place is worth trying out! The food came a little slower than we anticipated but other than that, no complaints.

Came on a Saturday around noon and the place was pretty busy. I like the space. Lots of windows for natural light. Service was on the slower side even though we were seated immediately. We had to flag down our server to order and also again to ask how much longer it will take. The server was busy, maybe need more people working. The food also took quite a while to come out as well. For weekend brunch, everything is about $ 8 unless you add eggs/gravy/etc to them. Brunch food usually comes in a very hefty serving, but this place was perfect portion wise(as in I can finish it without overeating!) and I think it is well reflected in the price. The chicken and waffles was just ok. Chicken was not bad, but the waffle was not very special. I probably would not get this again. The shrimp and grits was pretty good though, comes with two eggs which goes well with the dish. Mildly spicy. I would get this dish again. No catfish for brunch but I’d wanna try that. Got a side of beignets. They were pretty dry. I don’t have a lot of beignet eating experience(just at Toulouse petit and Brenda’s in SF), but I did not particularly enjoy this one.

Happy to see this establishment open up in the neighborhood! It’s going give Ezell’s a run for its money, and it will. Huge portions and some interesting creations that you might not expect from a chicken establishment. The mac and cheese appetizer is great, or for the chicken legs if you get you started. The two large plump, and perfectly cooked legs hit the spot to start off. They also have a liquor license, so that you can wet your whistle with a cold brew or one of the mix cocktails from behind the register. The hours they will be open are Tuesday through Sunday 4 p.m. till 10 p.m. closed on Mondays. The staff checked on me multiple times and were very attentive. They haven’t officially opened yet, but when they do I’m sure they’re going to be very busy! So check it out while you have an opportunity before it gets too crowded I’m hard to get into!

Five stars! It is extremely loud, it takes longer than it should for the food to come out, and their waffles are quite bad, but my plate of food was so satisfyingly delicious that they deserve nothing less than five stars. I can forgive the imperfections. I had the chicken legs with fried green tomatoes and red beans over rice. My BF had the chicken and waffles. The waffles were very mealy and tasted overdone and stale. But! My plate was perfection. The legs were perfectly seasoned with crispy skin and was extremely juicy and succulent inside. The tomatoes were delicately fried and the accompanying sauce(cheesy? Tangy?) was the perfect complement. And the red beans and rice. Wow — perfection! I almost considered getting another order to go before leaving. I will definitely be back as I will be having dreams about that red beans and rice.

Fat’s occupies the corner of MLK and Cherry where Catfish Corner used to reside. Curiously, the neon catfish sign from the Catfish Corner days still hangs in the window. The remodeled interior of Fat’s is inviting, with delightful orange colors all around. But unfortunately, the exterior Dutch door was behaving badly the evening I was there, refusing to close the entire way. The staff is wonderful, very kind and helpful. If you plan to eat in at Fat’s, there’s no need to order at the counter. Just take a seat at one of the several tables and your server will be there at your side quickly. OK, ever since having chicken and waffles for the very first time at Simpatica Dining Hall in Portland six years ago, I’ve pretty much consistently ordered this dish whenever I see it on a menu. Granted, Simpatica Dining Hall sets a pretty high bar, so my chicken and waffle standards might be rather demanding. So at Fat’s, in addition to chicken and waffles($ 14), I placed an order for a side of fried green tomatoes(which go for a very reasonable $ 4). I thought the tomatoes were pretty good, with a nice seasoning mix, but they were salty. And that leads up to the chicken and waffles. I was disappointed. The skinny waffles were OK, though I wasn’t super in love with the whipped oleo concoction that came with the waffles(the syrup was okay however). Only now, going back and looking at Fat’s online menu, do I now realize that with the waffles, you can order either two chicken legs or a half pound of chicken breast meat. I see too that, for $ 2.50, you can add gravy to your dish. Being naïve to the world when I was at Fat’s, I ordered the chicken and waffles without specifying what type of chicken, or specifying that I wanted gravy. What I received was chicken breast by default. I just didn’t care for the chicken’s seasoning. It was spicy hot with overwhelming notes of paprika and/or cayenne pepper. And then too, the chicken seemed like its origin was a big bulk bag of boneless chicken breast filets, like say from Costco. For now, I am going with about 3.4 stars. But, I do see other tempting dishes on the menu like shrimp and grits, an oyster sandwich and rice with gravy. Coming back and trying those dishes could raise my Fat’s review to four stars. Stay tuned. 3÷2÷16 — We returned to a very busy restaurant. I can verify that the shrimps and grits are excellent, with a delicious broth. Actually, the grits by themselves are excellent. However, our orders were very slow to be filled(over 45 minutes). That lengthy wait gives pause to wanting to return.
