My first encounter with Dahlia was when my boyfriend bought half a dozen of their pistachio raspberry macarons. They were absolutely delicious! I’m a fan of Laduree and Bottega macarons and was very impressed that Dahlia macarons stacked up nicely against my regular brands. They have limited baked goods each day so it is best to go early to get what you want!

I came to Dahlia Bakery on the Chocolate Indulgence Tour. I heard it was supposed to be really good because it is one of Tom Douglass’s establishments. The Seattle natives rave about Tom Douglass and his establishments, so it was nice to see what all the talk was about. My review is solely for the Chocolate Crinkle Cookie as I did not like the Coconut Cream Pie and I have not tried anything else from here. During the tour we tried 2 desserts: Chocolate Crinkle Cookie and the Coconut Cream Pie. The Coconut Cream Pie is one of the top desserts that the bakery is well known for. I personally do not like coconut but I tried it anyway. The Chocolate Crinkle Cookie was amaze balls. It actually had more of a brownie taste and texture. It had some chocolate chips on the inside. Just a really good chocolatey cookie. But the chocolate wasn’t over powering. Now for the Coconut Cream Pie. I have never eaten this as I do not like coconut, but I do give credit where it is due even if I don’t like something and/or a specific ingredient but believe overall it was good. To me the Coconut Cream Pie wasn’t that great. Yes, I don’t like coconut BUT the custard was bland to me as well. It really didn’t have a flavor. It also could have been a little sweeter. TOME it tasted like coconut mixed in with flavorless custard, just blah tasting. Even if I didn’t like the coconut the custard could have helped it out to give it that boost it needed. Although I don’t like coconut, if the custard was good I could have said hey I don’t like coconut but the custard was amazing but I can’t even say that. Although I have never eaten this and have nothing to compare it too, I don’t think I would say this was the best if I did. Overall, I think Dahlia Bakery has some good pastries if I go by the cookies. If I go by the pie they might be in trouble. Lol. Honestly, I’m sure they are good. Like any other bakery it comes down to personal preference and what you like. But I did really enjoy the cookie and would say they are worth a try.

Found out about this place here on Unilocal in search of something sweet, so we had to try a little bit of everything! Everything was SO good– we tried the coconut cream pie bite, the mini carrot cake, and a couple of the chocolate chunk and chocolate chip cookies. The staff are friendly and welcoming, so we’re definitely coming back next time we’re in Seattle!

One word: YUM. I’m completely obsessed with Dahlia Bakery! I’ve only been living in Seattle(recent NYC transplant) for a few months, and work around the corner from this place. A coworker introduced me to them a couple weeks ago and WOW is it incredible. This is a grand statement but I stand by it: they have the best grilled cheese & tomato soup I’ve ever had. Ever. All I can say is if you haven’t tried it, you need to drop everything and get one, now. I’m also in love with their biscuits & strawberry jam. Have yet to actually try their cookies/baked goods, but they always look delicious every time I’m there! This is a must-go if you’re in the area!

The made to order donuts were warm, light and fluffy, and not oily. After ordering, it just took about 5 minutes for them to be ready. They come as 6 mini donuts with a side of jam and vanilla mascarpone. They were a little pricey at $ 7.25

We came back and shared a chocolate éclair and a half dozen of made to order donuts. All were delicious. The donuts are a must have. I will come back here for the donuts when I’m back in Seattle.

While expensive, I cannot find fault in the quality. The pastries(notably the croissant) are the best I’ve had in Seattle, including French bakeries in Pike Place and Ballard. This is yet another Tom Douglas creation centered around baking great pastries. As we have come to expect, it delivers on the theme with exceptional ability and I am happy to live nearby. I am a weekly shopper, sometimes even more regular than that!

This review is just for the doughnuts. I’ve had them 15+ times and want to shout it from the rooftops! These soft pillows of heavenly goodness. How do you explain such a perfect thing? These doughnuts are what dreams are made of. Paired perfectly with a rotating seasonal compote(strawberry this time, peach is my all time favorite) and vanilla mascarpone that you’ll want to eat by the spoonfuls. These are made to order and come with 6 pieces of perfection! Go get some! This bakery had loads of other delicious baked goods as well. But these doughnuts… They deserve all the spotlight!

[Out-of-Towner Review] Carbs. Sugar. Happiness. A little closet stuffed to the bring of sweetness, carbs, sugar, and all fattening goodness! As we finished lunch up around the corner, we sought out dessert. Little did we know it was less than a one minute walk away. It was here that we heard that name again, Tom Douglas. This guy is popular around Seattle. We just ate at his pizza joint, now we’re trying his desserts. As we waited in line and contemplated(re: stressed out) what we would order, my mind was swirling with carb anticipation. We knew nothing about this place, but the two ladies in front of us kinda let us in on the Coconut Cream Pie secret. There was one mini left and they were debating. The dessert Gods were on my side, they ordered a slice to share. Which meant that I could try this famous pie in the form of a mini pie and still order something else. I also ordered a Choco Chip cookie, since I knew I could snack on it later and eat the mini pie right now! J ordered a traditional éclair! We paid and grabbed our goodies, while hesitatingly looking at more goodies. It was such a nice day, we ate them outside of the bakery, standing, chatting with the ladies who ordered before us. The mini pie was good, but I don’t think it was worth the hype. I liked it, but it wasn’t something I couldn’t live without. J was basically swooning over his éclair, he said it was amazing. I took his word for it, custard isn’t really my thing! I did eat the cookie, later at the airport, and it was perfect. Chewy in spots where it should be, and with a slight crisp bite. I loved the flavor and cookie to choco ratio. So, by far the cookie made me the happiest out of my two options! The cookies are where it’s at, hands down!

Tried a chocolate tart with peanut butter and candied banana – really good. I also tried a taste of the coconut cream pie. It was like an amuse-bouche of pie. Only problem was it was not enough and after the bite size portion I wanted a whole slice! I guess I’ll just have to go back!

I’ve visited this bakery both times I’ve been to Seattle this year, and it’s confirmed… this is now one of my mandatory Seattle stops. If you like pastries of any kind, you gotta get you some Dahlia treats :) There are already many Unilocal reviews praising their triple coconut cream pie and there is good reason for that. As a self professed coconut obsesser, I am happy to say that it lives up to the hype. Light, creamy, and chock full of coconut flavor. What I really appreciate is that they offer whole pies, slices, and little bite size pies. I get the bite size ones since I’m not supposed to really have them(I’m gluten and dairy free these days), but they’re so worth the splurge! I’ve also tried their coconut almond cake and their sweet potato scone and both are good. My friend enjoyed her macaron too. The last visit i tried their coconut bundt cake with lemon glaze which i liked almost as much as the pie. I was mad at myself for not getting another for the plane ride home. I haven’t tried their sandwiches yet but plan to in the future. The customer service is on point too. They are patient(and it gets crowded in this little shop) and offer suggestions if you’re not sure what to get. No matter what you do, get the coconut cream pie.

Coconut cream pie. Try it, and it’s over. Ok? I’m not a big coconut fan, but when I took a bite of that little piece of heaven, I about cried. I got the bite size portion and I wish I got the whole pie. It was rich with the right amount of coconut flavor. The crust was flakey and light. Doesn’t overwhelm at all. I got there when it wasn’t too busy and the line was not out the door. Weekday around 3pm. So, I got lucky. The girl at the counter was very helpful, since I’m just a little ol tourist, and recommended a few favorites. The inside was very cute and the packaging for the individual portions was adorable. Try this place and you won’t be disappointed!

After shopping at Pike Place Market, my friend and I were famished. We were told Lola’s was the place to go for lunch which is a short hike up the hill from the market. We did not have a reservation and had to wait in the hotel lobby for 30 minutes. Hangrily, we finally got seated and ordered the donuts. OMAGAHHD delish! But also almost $ 10 for 6 little donuts. Anyways I saw this bakery across the street and really wanted to check it out. Come to find out it is also a Tom Douglas eatery. They had the donuts for $ 2 less than at Lola’s! Plus awesome cookies, cakes, brownies, and well anything delicious and not good for you. So if youre as HANGRY as I was and don’t want to spent that extra cash, just go to this bakery. Same awesome and made to order donuts plus some other great treats. Its a really small shop and the line can get long but its well worth it.

I dropped in after lunch to get some dessert. The line seemed small, but I ended up waiting 20 minutes to get a slice of pie. Coconut Cream Pie The famous Coconut Cream Pie! I had to get a slice. I liked it. Very light and it doesn’t contain 9 pounds of sugar like some other pies and desserts. Like with any pie, the best part is the crust. Try to come on off-peak hours if you’re in a rush, or you might be like me and wait around 30 minutes to get a single item.

The Dahlia Bakery is sublime! Directly next to The Dahlia lounge is the bakery. Amazing treats for you to sample or take home. However the rock star item is the coconut cream pie. It’s not a myth people, it’s real and from the bakery. Master Chief Tom Douglas has mastered many things with NW cooking but his coconut cream pie is his greatest achievement! Forget climbing Mt Everest cause you haven’t lived until you’ve entered fork into pie and placed into mouth. It’s the 9th wonder of the world. The pie itself from the bakery’s comes in various options, pie bites($ 2.50), slice($ 7.50), small pie($ 16.00) or whole pie($ 36.75)… Now you may pass out at the price but who care you only live once… Now FRANKS got his fork in one hand scoping up the flakey crust(which is perfect) and the decadent coconut filling thats splashed with coconut flakes on top and gliding into my mouth. Fireworks start to burst around me like an outer body experience. Your body is thinking OMG, the closet thing to an orgazim your experience outside the body. And thats a fact!!! I’m sure you’ll grab some other treats or coffee but I follow a simple rule of stick with the best thing on menu and don’t try anything different.

Part of the Tom Douglas empire, Dahlia Bakery is must when in Seattle; especially if you watch Unique Sweets. The thing they’re famous for here are their donuts. This, of course, was the sole reason the wife wanted to visit. The donuts are made to order, and are more like bingets than normal donuts. You’ll have to wait about 10 – 20 minutes for um, but they come out hot and fluffy. The side of vanilla bean mascarpone is heavenly and the homemade jam changes regularly. My only complaint? Little too sweet. Me, I ordered the cherry danish. It was flaky, creamy, sweet and tart. It was perfectly balanced, and despite the looks, definitely didn’t taste like canned cherries. No, these were the real deal. The only downside, especially during the winter, is the place is tiny. You can’t really even wait inside it’s so tiny. Outside there’s only a couple of tables too, so this is definitely a to-go location. I’d love to visit again, though, and would love to check out Dahlia Lounge next-door too. Heck I want to check out most of the Tom Douglas empire one day…

Spiced pumpkin whoopie pies w/cream cheese filling is a must(although it is seasonal), daily to-go sandwiches and salads, and an array of pastries and sweets at the counter, including some grab-n-go dim sum options. Line can be out the door sometimes, especially during the commute rush for a coffee and pastry, or a sammie for later. Go early otherwise they run out of stuff since it’s all made fresh. Still has great personality after all these years in operation, and staff never fail to be friendly and fast – they try hard to keep the line moving along.

You will notice this place right away by the small crowd that forms. I love their breakfast sandwiches. I get the egg, sausage, cheese, arugula, tomato, and avocado in my sandwich. There is a wide selection of baguettes, croissants, oatmeal, and cookies. However, the breakfast sandwiches are hearty and fresh. It is a small space so unless you want to eat on the sidewalk and you can snag a coveted seat — better plan on taking your meal to go. The wait can be long for items that are not prepared ahead of time. The service is great. There are dozens of people running around, but they seem to all be willing to help. They will call names so don’t wonder too far while you wait.

Cool little bakery storefront. Tiny in size but has a solid enough selection of pastries. Tried their signature coconut cream pie. I read somewhere that this is Seattle’s #1 rated dessert. So I made a little special walking trip out here. It’s more like a triple coconut pie with coconut baked into the crust, coconut in the filling, and toasted coconut sprinkled on the top. Hype. Just OK. They bake the coconut within the crust and I think they over baked this batch because the coconut tasted burnt and bitter. Definitely not a buttery and flaky crust. The filling was OK, and the toasted coconut shavings could have been crisper to provide more of a contrast between textures. There’s these toasted coconut chips from this brand called Dang that you can get at Target and Costco. Sooo much better tasting. Either way, hype for me and not worth a special trip.

Tom Douglas’ Dahlia Bakery, home of the triple coconut cream pie. Sounds delicious to me! My friend and I shared a slice and took it outside to enjoy with coffee. As soon as I posted a picture on IG, I got a comment to try their donuts. What??? I didn’t see any donuts! I went back inside the little shop and inquired. Turns out they are made to order. Those pillow soft donut bites are amazing on their own and extraordinary when dipped in jam and mascarpone. Amazing! Definitely get the donuts! A standout on this trip to Seattle!

All I want right now is that delicious, heavenly coconut cream pie. If I had it as my final dessert, I would die with a big smile on my face. Perfectly whipped cream with some toasted pieces for texture. The custard was the icing on the cake though. The right amount of coconut flavoring. Not too sweet so I could easily finish a whole small pie by myself. In fact, I loved it so much I bought one home in my luggage to let my sister try it. She loved it because it tasted like a cream puff. This pie is very addicting and drool inducing. I highly recommend you devour a piece if you’re in Seattle.
