Great music, nice coffee, very good facility and shy light for studying as a Seattle grad student. I’ve been there so many times, always with great experience until one staff asked me «I saw you sit here for a while, did you make a purchase?» as if I was a thief and is stealing their space. I finished my first cup and another staff took away my cup. I was trying to finish my studying and didn’t buy another cup of coffee or their product and I became a suspect? Not a nice way to treat long-time grad student customer.

The place has a really nice ambiance, although it can be a bit loud if you are looking to study. I got an omelet and an iced caramel machiatto which both more than satisfied my expectations!

Popped in here with the hubby. We have had some really bad coffee at independent shops. But the coffee here was very good. And we took home a cookie and brownie and they were delicious.

Atmosphere: 4⁄5 Café solstice is very spacious unlike many café’s on the Ave which I am SUPER thankful for. I hate feeling squished and rushed by other people when I want to drink some tea or coffee and do some homework. It can be quite loud here though, and sometimes there are live performances so this makes Solstice stand out from the other cafes. Food/drinks: 4⁄5 I think the food here is pretty good, but the breakfast wraps are a little small so. The drinks here are very good, and I really like the soy lattes that they make. They also have a decent menu of good quality teas and since I am a tea lover this is great! Service: 5⁄5 self serve, makes sense with the popularity. The people though are very nice and accommodating. I had ordered a vegetarian breakfast wrap but they were all out and let me order a 2 things in its stead(rasberry bundt cake + cookie) YUM.

Really great chai. Nice local shop where you can hang out and work over wifi for awhile. They also use real glasses and mugs for ‘here’ orders to save on disposable cups.

Menu posted at the register. Unable to browse beverages while in line waiting. Tea latte was pretty good. Muffin was pretty good. Inside décor was nice, layout was good, didn’t notice any music playing as mentioned by other reviewers, but I was there in the early morning. Cashier was friendly, barista was mechanical in motions and expressions, but was quick in making the orders.

Good coffee for focusing on studying. Close to campus, so I often come here to hype myself.

I got the mocha and it was great. Not too sweet and not too bitter. The ambience is also very nice, but it’s kind of loud so not a great place to study.

Delicious latte. Nicely bitter. One of the best ones I’ve had in Seattle! Yummy(forgot the name) chocolate chip cookie brownie ish. Love the unique music and atmosphere. Good energy flows inside yourself. Full of people studying or socializing. Envy UW students!

Great coffee, good food, nice staff, and a relaxing atmosphere. It’s more expensive than other coffee shops on the Ave but it’s worth it.

Café Solstice is the type of place I really want to like a lot, but probably won’t be a go-to. Clearly very popular and conveniently situated on the lower end of The Ave. There is an outdoor patio that looks great to sit at. I agree — the music got WAY too loud at some point, as if it were night-time and we were at a club. Of course, people talked even louder to hear the people at their tables when that happened. Seemed a little odd if you’re not going to have an open dance floor between café patrons studying and conversing over coffee/tea… The coffee was decent though. I just had a drip coffee with soy milk and the roast was quite smooth. The latte looked good as well. Pricing was average. Haven’t had any food to comment on!

The thing is I like café solstice but it’s very deceiving from the outside. You’d think it’d be a great study place from the outside. Quiet, charming even. Once inside the EDM music can rival a busy club. I’m not complaining it’s a nice area with excellent coffee(never try their other drinks) but definitely a horrible place to be studying.

Café solstice is on my top 5 coffee shops list for Seattle. Here’s why: 1) Coffee: The coffee is perfect; both the taste/roast and the latte art. The coffee and milk/froth do not separate so every sip is delicious as well as invigorating. 2) Ambiance: Great place to get some work done. Nice wide benches and lots of power outlets. Free wifi of course. Noise level is average. 3) Food: They have some mouth watering pastries and baked items like their cardamon spice cake and grilled cheese for the savories. 4) Friendly people: The baristas are friendly and welcoming. 5) They are open pretty late so works out great for long study sessions. Also it helps that they are right by the bus stop on University Ave where a lot of buses stop.

This café is huge! Great for studying by yourself or with friends. Snacks, pastries, tea and coffee offered here. The coffee here is great. Not sure what roast they’re using but it’s definitely not your Starbucks coffee(where they just push a button.) They freshly grind & pull shots here for you. Baristas are great with the latte art as well. Free wifi and opens really early and closes very late! 6:30am-11pm! I wish the prices weren’t so high for the items here. But for its quality and set prices(I think tax was included in their prices on the menu) I’ll keep coming for more. Bundle up because I swear the heat is never on. I’m always freezing here!

Atmos: Loud! The music is loud and often heavy with base and then the people talk louder over the music. If you’re looking for a quiet place to study, don’t go here, if you like the noise and hub-bub then this is a great café to chill in. Food: Yum! Grilled sandwiches is as good as a coffee bar can get :) I had the veggie sam grilled, very yummy — just the right amount of fixin’s and nice and crunchy toasty bread with the cheese properly melted! Tea: Interesting! It was nice, I’d definitely drink more. I got the organic green — great for an organic! I forget who they partner with… It was served to me in a tall clear drinking water glass — an interesting way to drink hot tea! But it worked. If I’m ever in the area again, I would definitely pop in here.

For many years, Solstice has had some of the better coffee in Seattle – consistency is a great thing. The desserts are really good too. They have a small outside seating area that is heated that is a nice touch. I also see that they have several good beers on tap.

Great lattes for UW students. I love the ambience here but it gets too loud and packed sometimes! It’s really hard to find a decent seat to study during their peak hours

There was a line out of the door, which has never lead me astray before today. Serving coffee, pastries, beer and sandwiches, Café Solstice seems to have everything. The space is humongous! With a patio looking onto the street and another one on the alley, there’s bountiful outdoor seating and tons of indoor seating as well. It’s a regular Noah’s Ark of a café — plenty of wonderfully diverse clientele coming from the U District. The staff are charming, engaging and friendly. Doing everything with a smile or laugh, they truly make this café a home away from home. Yet, aside from the physical space, I was quite disappointed in the actual coffee. Burnt, bitter, and lukewarm at best, my shot of espresso wasn’t just underwhelming, but quite awful. I’m not excited to come back, but I am eager to taste their other offerings — notably a chicken chutney sandwich and rotating tap selection.

The inside of the café is very cozy and a perfect place to study and relax. I had chai but I guess I was expecting too much since it didn’t taste that different from the sweet ones the HFS serves. I had their cheesecake brownie and that was interesting. My problem is the lack of respect for the customers. I usually pay with card but the cashiers are never nice to me.

This place is probably my favorite café in the U-District regarding the taste of the coffee. I’m not too big of the environment however. The music’s a bit too loud, there’s always no parking, coffee is slightly overpriced but you get what you pay for because latte here is dang tasty. I always get soy latte, and compared to other cafes on the Ave, it seems to have the richest espresso, at least to me. The baristas here seem to know what they are doing. I’ve also had their standard ice coffee which was also delicious. I don’t study here however. I usually prefer a quieter space, but great café to meet a friend for a cup of coffee :)
