Nice airport close to Gearhart and Seaside. Closest airport to Cannon Beach too. No scheduled air service at this airport, it’s just used for GA and occasional sightseeing operators. No fees. Kinda short at 2150′, and watch those crosswinds. Cabs are cheap and some of the restaurants /hotels will do airport pickup. No crew car but as of early 2013 there’s a campaign to get the city to sponsor one — they’re asking people to write letters — go to the city of Seaside website to do so. It’s easy walking distance to Gearhart and several restaurants and other attractions: 1) Gateway park, on the estuary across the highway from the airport 2) Java Reef espresso(drive-through), 100 yds south 3) Creekside restaurant, 200 yds south 4) Gearhart junction café’, ½ mile north 5) Pacific Way café’, 1 mile north and west 6) Seaside city(lots of restaurants, shops, hotels, beach, etc. — 2.5 miles south Other good info in the notebook in the sign-in mailbox, and in the airport kiosk just outside the gate. Officially there’s no camping on the field but if you pitch your tent after dark no one will likely bother you. Just the same don’t leave tents etc. unattended as the police have been known to come out and confiscate. It is relatively safe with a new fence around the tie-down ramp area. Oh and the map here shows the city hall addres not the airport so don’t try to land where the pointer is!

56S is a good little airport. The pavement is well cared for and there’s plenty of tie down space. There are trees to the North but I was clear of them by 200′ in a 160HP Warrior. There is a departure proceedure for noise so please adhere so it stays open for years to come. It’s quite a walk to get any where so next time I’ll explore the transportation options.
