Great food and service! Although I’ve only eaten here once, I will definitely be back to try more after my first experience of their yummy food. Plus: free vanilla ice cream :)

If you’re looking for a quick barbecue fix this is the spot. The food is good and the prices aren’t bad. Kids eat free on Sunday’s. Highly recommended!

A friend surprised me with lunch and i must say it was better than expected. I like the sides the most, i wish the portions were bigger but it was good! If ever you have cravings for bbq and dont feel like grilling, slide thru.

Best BBQ I first went to the one in Visalia and only just discovered there was one here in Monterey. I’m so happy. I ate there today for lunch and it was delicious. I will be back.

Kids eat free on Sundays. My wife and I love the pulled pork and the ribs. The oldest son loves the apple pie. Oldest daughter loves the mac & cheese and free soft serve ice cream. Baby girl loves the fried ocra. Reasonably priced. Good value. Good food.

They recently catered at my job but I wasn’t there that day. Most coworkers said it was delicious. So I went one day after work and I loved it! Good portions and friendly service. The okra was delicious. I actually went back the next day and had another great experience. It’s one of my new favorite places for BBQ.

Came in the restaurant in August 2015. We had an online order for a family meal. When I walked in the restaurant no one was behind the counter or could be seen in the kitchen. It was approximately an hour before closing time. When someone finally did show up, they fixed our order and we took it home. The food was cold and the meat was dry. Approximately 36 hours later, EVERY person that ate the food came down with a nasty case of food poisoning. I’m not directly saying it was caused by this food but it was definitely the only meal we ate together that day. Anyway, the food is expensive and pretty bad for what you get. Take it from someone who grew up in both Texas and the Carolinas — this is not real bbq.

We took our mothers for lunch, all first time visitors. The staff was very friendly, the food was great. Mom loved the fried okra on the menu. Will definitely return.

First time at a Dickey’s. Had a coupon for a free sandwich with purchase of a drink. I picked the beef brisket sandwich and ended up paying $ 2.44 for the drink. The sandwich was on a hamburger sized bun. I had choices of pickles and onions while they were making it(I chose both). The self serve drink counter had a selection of Coca Cola sodas and two teas in separate dispensers. The sandwich was small in my opinion, but was very good! I added the«original» BBQ sauce to it at the drink counter. Tasted fresh and was very tender. The bun was slightly toasted. I went in after 1 pm and there was no line to order — friendly and quick service. Very clean and ample seating inside. Country music playing. I have one more free sandwich coupon — I will return to use that. My sandwich would have cost $ 5.99, not sure if that was worth it for the small size. The drink cup says on it to take it home, it is a «souvenir.» Overall — good food, good service, and good atmosphere. But, small sandwich. I will try another next time.

We used Dickey’s for our wedding last wedding at Memory Garden in Monterey. Lupe was SOOOOOWONDERFUL! He was organized, helpful, reassuring, clear, and responsive to my millions of emails. He even showed up to the wedding to serve our food! This guy deserves a raise! Lupe and his team were on time, quick to set up, and even cleared the plates(not their responsibility but did it as a favor to us)!!! Our guests reviewed the food as follows– Mac n Cheese– DELICIOUS Brisket– DELICIOUS Chicken-Dry but good flavor(that’s where the minus star comes in) Green Beans– Fast food ish, but also good! Baked potatoes– For our vegetarian guests and were YUMMY! Highly recommended, just maybe not the chicken. Thanks Lupe!

I have been to Dickey’s plenty of times, BUT not at this location. I normally go to the Dickey’s located in Jackson, CA(near Sacramento) and I have to say that the Jackson location is WAY better. I couldn’t believe how small the portions were here. My husband and I just ate here for dinner tonight and neither of us got full with the 2 meat plate. For the amount of food you get, it is way over priced. I am very disappointed because at the other location in Jackson, much more food is provided at the same cost. Will not be returning unless Dickey’s changes the portion sizes.

This restaurants is very nice the food is rich is first came the great attention the only bad thing I did not like was that he was asking something about the food at one of the workers and the manager who was on 2 May the 6:30 pm hour in seaside California told his working your talking and here you do not have forks, spoons and knife and what I was doing as a customer is asking about the food was arrogant attitude is not how to treat a worker and watch this talking to a customer and shout from one end Another not usually put complaints but could not pass this as I say the attention was very good the only thing Fitness Manager thank you very much

Let me start by saying the food was 4 stars… Good, better than average. Good BBQ sauce, sides, and plenty of choices… The best thing about this place was the service. The three people in the back were very nice. And Yoshi… She was amazing. Great recommendations. Great attitude. My girlfriend said she made the place worth going to before we even tasted our food.

Well… in spite of my last review, I’ve been back. What can I say, I’m a BBQ junkie… and the BBQ at Dickeys is better than everywhere else in Monterey. To tell you that this is a seriously sad state of affairs would be gross understatement… we need some damn good BBQ here the Monterey bay area! But I digress. This particular Dickeys seems to be having issues. They have another new manager… which probably means the chain doesn’t pay enough to obtain and retain good quality people to run things. Explains a lot… but not why the food quality has dropped… anyway, the BBQ is still about the same, but the new manager really seems to be trying to improve their game. As previously written, they screwed up my order yet again… but the manager quickly stepped in to try to make things right. Long story short… rather than get my money back, I have him the chance to fix the issue and went about my way. Now, the food is still basically the same… its tasty enough… in the same manner that McDonalds burgers are tasty enough. Its not as great a BBQ food as my first review raved about… but again, when you are Jones-ing for BBQ, this will scratch the itch just enough to prevent you from racking up a body count and winding up on «Cops»… OK, maybe that’s just me… but you get the point. I’ve upped the star count again simply because the new manager, Lupe, if I’m remembering correctly, is a good guy with a sincere desire to run a good restaurant… he’s won me back to continuing to eat at Dickeys. I hope he stays!

Stopped you by this place around 4:30 on a Friday afternoon. Place was empty. Not a good sign. The place is was clean and in order. But I guess that’s not too difficult to pull off when your place is empty. The service was courteous and top notch. The two people working the counter had smiles on their faces and seemed genuinely happy to service my family and even made a few suggestions when we were undecided on which sides to choose. My got the pulled pork, brisket(chopped and sliced), honey smoked ham, and chicken breast. All the meats had a great smoke flavor. Not too heavy but just enough to give you that smoke flavor your expect from good barbecue. The brisket and pulled pork were both a tad on the dry side, but that’s to be expected at a BBQ joint where the meat is cooked ahead of time and kept warm under plastic wrap. It is what it is. The best meat was the chicken breast. It actually had a little moisture left in it and the flavor was great. There is a self serve sauce bar with three different sauces to choose from. Original, Sweet, and spicy. All three are pretty good, although it’s tough to tell the difference between original and sweet. The soft drink bar is pretty standard. They do offer both sweet and unsweetened«Southern» tea. As an after dinner treat they do offer soft serve ice cream cones that you serve yourself. All in all Dickey’s Barbecue Pit is an okay choice for dinner. Not great but not bad either. With our very limited Barbecue establishments in the area this place will do if you’re having a Brisket craving. But if you have the time learn how to barbecue yourself, it ends up being cheaper and much, much better tasting.

I went in and picked up some ribs, some brisket, and some pulled pork. I could tell that everything had been thoroughly seasoned and smoked-but that wasn’t the problem. The problem is that the sauce tasted like store bought sauce. The reason for that is because they forgot to pack any sauce like they were supposed to, and upon getting home, I had to venture out to buy the sauce. I could’ve driven the extra 25 – 30 minutes round trip to go back to dickeys, but then I’m putting sauce on cold meat. I seriously doubt I’ll be back. I kept the review at two stars because the girl was very nice when I called to let her know my $ 60 order didn’t come with sauce. Ended up throwing most of it out after a day or two.

People that are whining about the barbecue coming out of a plastic bag and this place not being comparable to genuine mom-and-pop barbecue need to get a life. Seriously. The food is barbecued and THEN placed in a bag(probably to keep the moisture in). We don’t have enough of a barbecue culture in Monterey, CA for them to have an enormous barbecue pit going 10 hours a day to pull fresh stuff right off the grill whenever somebody orders it. It’s a fact of life. Deal with it. Saying«this place isn’t as good as Big Bubba’s on the outskirts of Dallas Texas» is like going to a little league game and complaining you saw a better baseball game at Pac Bell park. As far as chain barbecue places go, this place is near the top of the list. The employees are always very friendly and the owner is a super nice guy also(I met him when they were opening the store and shortly thereafter but don’t know him personally) This is definitely the best barbecue within 50 miles. I would also like to point out that the family pack is a great deal to feed 6 – 8 hungry adults.

I don’t understand how Dickey’s can call itself a «Barbeque Pit» when there isn’t a «pit» on the premises, even though they say there is. The worst part, no the horrifying part, was when I ordered the smoked turkey sandwich and the guy pulls out a plastic wrapped turkey loaf(like those parts-is-parts Hormel hams you buy in the grocery store) and proceeds to cut off a half inch chunk, lay it on white bread, then douse it in BBQ sauce and place two thin pickle slices over that. No slicing, no heating. I chose the beans and cole slaw sides: the beans tasted like B & M canned but the cole slaw was OK. On the other hand, husband had the pulled pork sandwich(it doesn’t come with BBQ sauce but there is a serve-yourself BBQ sauce bar near the drink fountain), beans and fried okra. Hands down, the fried okra was the best thing we ate. Never saw the free soft-serve ice cream anywhere. The ordering/assembly line needs some tweaking. How many people do you have to tell your order to and how many people have to handle that order? The whole process in slow and clunky. The dining area is clean but noisy. Not sure I’d make a special trip back. OK, maybe for the fried okra.

I enjoyed the basic two meat combo of turkey and ribs; comes with choice of sides: coleslaw, baked beans, side salad, mac n’ cheese. Free soft serve ice cream with little cones! A clean and friendly Dickey’s BBQ. Customer service: fine. Parking: plenty.

Not bad food, it almost seemed like the ribs were undercooked– weird chewy texture. My boyfriend and I both ordered the two meat plates– ribs/brisket and ribs/chicken breast. The chicken breast was tender and tasted real good with sweet BBQ sauce on it. So you get 2 ribs, a quarter to a half of a chicken breast, two slices of onions and pickles, a bun, and two sides. The sides take up over half of the tray while the meat pales in comparison. It seems like over compensation. For $ 12.00+ for two measly meat portions. The soft serve idea is nice, though the mix they use could have less sugar. You can sign up online to be part of their club– you get a free big yellow cup. When I showed them the email, they were unsure of what it was. The waffle fries were good, could have been cooked a little longer. The onion tangles were not bad, a little burned. Before they had even closed, or anything the manager, I am assuming, was talking loudly about how much money they made yesterday. $ 5000!!! I would maybe come back for lunch or a quick bite. It just was not what I was expecting when I head BBQ, I am thinking seeing the meat on a pit, not coming out of a heated locker wrapped in plastic wrap. I understand convenience, but at least finish them off over the grill or something. I miss the charred exterior. If the portions were larger, I would not mind paying for that extra amount. It just seems like what I paid for got me little protein, but a bunch of carbs.
