Econo Lodge Seaside Heights – Toms River East

I don’t expect much from hotels down the shore, but this one was awful. We had the 3 bedroom room suite and it was quite dirty (bugs and hair in the beds), the bathtub didn’t work and most of the fixtures were falling apart /​broken. The manager on duty was also rather rude. When we expressed our dissatisfaction with the bathtub he said it was due to 6 people sharing a bathroom which is completely unacceptable considering it was a 6 person suite and only 1 person had showered.
In addition, when we told him that we may have to leave negative feedback he told us that he deletes negative posts on TripAdvisor (hence the somewhat high rating). It’s close to the beach but avoid at all costs if you care about cleanliness and comfort.

Stay away. I have pretty much given up on all Choice Hotels because of this place. I contacted them three weeks in advance about changing my reservation. I heard back from them late afternoon on the day of my check-​in. Dozens of phone calls and emails later and I still can’t get any response beyond a generic «sorry», «we can’t help you» and «come again». And when I called to speak to someone in the corporate office, I couldn’t get past the receptionist. And I’m supposed to be an «elite gold member», for whatever that is worth. For the rates they charge ($ 300-​$ 500 per night), you can rent a cottage in Seaside or Lavallette and get a whole house on the beach. As I said — stay away.
